Caesar salad with anchovies
Amanda S.

We went right at 5 on Tuesday for dinner and business was really quiet. The atmosphere was clean and comfortable- loved the exposed brick and cool vibe going on. It definitely felt like more of "bar" type scene, probably more crowded in the late evening/weekends. The staff was really friendly & knowledgable. We ordered two starters, the nachos & buffalo wings. My husband loves wings and he really didn't enjoy these. They were really soft and drenched in sauce. The nachos were really good, but be careful of the peppers- super hot!! We got the chicken caesar wrap & caesar salad with anchovies, both were pretty basic. Good, but not great.

Their great clam chowder.

My friends have a classic car restoration shop locally and on a recent visit, they recommended we stop in here for lunch. I was told their clam chowder was "to die for" so that's what I ordered. Usually, I won't order a seafood dish so far from the ocean, but the scouting report was so strong I went for it. On first taste, I knew this was a top ten chowder! Rich, loaded with chunks of clams and loaded with well cooked, but not mushy potatoes. It was so good, I called my clam chowder expert friend to tell him how good it was and he requested I bring home a quart. Leap ahead a few days. I brought the take out chowder to my friend and he confirmed my judgement - this is great food! Definitely top ten. On par with his favorite at the Sturbridge inn. I also had a burger and fries - both excellent but the clam chowder is the reason to visit this small but interesting place. In the area? Definitely stop in. A clam chowder fan, make a trip! Highly recommended.

Here's the thing about a restaurant in Vergennes. It's very small town so there's not much competition food wise. Which results sometimes in sub-par food you're kind of stuck with because you have no other choice. The food isn't "bad" by any means but it certainly isn't good. I went to both 3 Squares & Park Squeeze, literally next to one anoyher- and both burgers were exactly the same. Bland, clearly prepackaged and over cooked. Neither one was better than the other. I was hoping to find one burger better than the other but no go. I asked for medium rare- here's the photo of my food. It did its job of filling me up but I didn't enjoy it.

Tangy BBQ ribs with slaw and fries.

Awesome little place, delicious appetizers and love the tangy BBQ ribs, the sauce is great! Dessert portions are on the small side, but that might be just watch you need after eating a full meal here. Love the look of the place as well.

I lived in the Vergennes area for 9 years but that was well over 11 years ago back when the Park Squeeze was still the tired little Park Restaurant. Imagine my surprise when I stepped into this narrow little eatery tucked between two other businesses. It's no wider than an alleyway, but you'd never know it until you walk inside. OMG! I was blown away with the transformation! I couldn't believe my eyes! Our guests made 7:00 reservations because it was Friday night. I said, "but it's only Vergennes, how packed can it be?" Well let me tell you, that place was buzzing! The hostess... who we realized after chatting with her has been friends with our daughter for years... took us up a very looong, narrow and steep set of stairs to the second floor (former apartment). The space was incredibly huge! And the magnificent bar! I don't know HOW they got that monster upstairs and in place? Maybe they built it up there? Who knows... thing is, it's enormous and plenty big enough for at least 20 stools around it... and they were all taken. The upstairs is warm and cozy with its brick walls and lighting and intimate seating areas, but upbeat and lively at the same time. The drinks kept flowing, mass amounts of food continually going out to the dining room, and everyone seemed to be having a good time. The menu is American with an eclectic twist. Variations on classic American fare like mac & cheese and burgers. Although we didn't have salads, they looked good as they passed by us to other tables. Our table ordered a plate of Nachos for an appetizer, a glorified version of Mac & Cheese with spinach, bacon and caramelized onions, Linguine with homemade Meatballs, Shrimp Lulu with what looked like vodka sauce over penne, a Squeeze Burger with a fried egg inside, and French fries and basic mac and cheese for our little 4-year-old guest. The food was a hit with all of us. The service was top-notch. The wait time was normal. All in all a great time! We'll be back!

It was the busiest place in town for a Sunday night. The burger was cooked exactly as requested. It didn't come with fries so I ordered the barbecue chips and dip. A huge order we took home to snack on the next day. Service was fantastic and quick!

Unfortunately, that's where the positives end. From the moment we sat down, the attitude from behind the bar set the tone in the worst way. The older woman tending bar was openly dismissive, rolled her eyes at simple questions about the menu, and made us feel like we were inconveniencing her every time we ordered a drink or asked for something basic like water or silverware. No greeting, no smile, and zero effort to be even minimally polite. At one point she dropped drinks in front of us without a word and walked away before we could even ask for what was missing. It's a shame, because the kitchen clearly cares, but the experience at the bar completely overshadowed how good the food was. If ownership ever addresses the front-of-house attitude, this could be a fantastic place, but until then, be prepared for excellent plates paired with some truly miserable service.

It's worth it when you can get a seat and eat there. Let me give you the reasons why I knocked it down to 4 stars: 1. Getting a table for dinner here can be difficult especially during the weekend. Yes, even when it's below freezing point. They are that popular and not being able to make a reservation doesn't help. 2. The only dish I found out off many occasions and many items is the sausages. It's a bit more grainy in texture that as off putting for me. Because it's grainy, I can imagine that this was made by hand instead of mass produced.

We ordered the ribs and brisket plates and split both dishes, which turned out to be a great choice. Each plate was delicious and flavorful in its own way. The brisket was cooked perfectly- tender and flaky, while the ribs were even more flavorful thanks to the BBQ sauce and fell right off the bone. At $26 and $29 per dish, we were hoping for slightly larger portions of coleslaw or sides. The interior was a bit dark, though it fit the overall vibe very well. The bar area was lively, even without a TV, which was nice to see. Overall, the atmosphere was great, and I'll likely be back when i'm in the area.
