Comparing my last experience 4 years ago to this experience, I feel like they have a better system now with most everyone going to an initial "information" counter, then receiving a number and going to whatever side of the waiting room you need to go to based on your needs. Most of the employees are much more friendly than the movies and stereotypes give them credit for, and I was very pleased by the friendliness that they showed that I didn't expect. Granted, there are a few crotchety employees (what sector of government doesn't have those), but they were the minority in my experience. Also, I think if you treat them nicely, they'll show the same back. The physical place isn't anything to write home about. You can tell it's older but they keep it pretty clean. They have way too many signs on the walls, so you end up not paying attention to any of them. It didn't bother me, but just a suggestion for whoever handles the signs, it's overkill. My wife and I both came around lunch expecting to wait for hours, and we both renewed our IDs in 45 minutes from the time we walked in to when we left. Now, I wouldn't go in with that expectation, but I just say that to say they've become more efficient over the years and I'm definitely a fan of that!

While things were somewhat busy, we had an appointment and got to go into the short line (yay us!). Upon checking in, they send the driver to wait in their car (we were 20 minutes early, which was interesting - long wait in a car). After passing the test, we had to get back in line (which was short at this time - yay us!). They quickly processed us and gave us a number. I came here on a "walk-in" Saturday for getting my license updated for REALID. The facility opened at 7:30am and I got in the outdoor line at 7:20am. There were probably about 50-60 people ahead of me and after the doors opened it took about 25min for me to get in the building. When I finally got to talk to a human, it was about a 1 hour wait overall. They confirmed I had the proper documents and then it was a 10 min wait to get my photograph taken. From there, I sat about 20 minutes in a waiting area to get my documents scanned and pay the fee ($5 + $1 card fee). Once I did get to the teller, Marcie (who was very kind), it was about 10 min for processing and scanning. After that, a 3 min wait to get my printed temporary REALID, until it comes in the mail in 2 weeks. In and out in just less than 2 hours. I had headphones to keep me entertained. My advice is that if you can get there by 7:00am, you'll have a real shot at getting out of there in an hour. Don't go anywhere else! This is the best. PS. There's a sign hanging in one of the offices that reads, "You don't have to be crazy to work here, we'll train you." If that's not the best example of self-awareness ever, I don't know what is.
