When I went to redeem my Goodiebag offer the guy working the counter was amazing. I got there very close to closing and he was so sweet. He went into the counter and filled our bag was savory treats. There was around 7/8 items in the bag. Everything he put in the bag was a surprise to us. We noticed a few of the names but they looked alike in the bag. Now we had 2 with hamburger meat/ground beef. They were our favorites. One had ham and cheese and one had corn and cheese. Both were delicious. Small round cheese breads were very chewy. Our least favorite was the hot dog but it wasn't terrible. We opted to get a sweet treat also and loved it also. It was a milk and coconut twisted bread. All in all I was super impressed with what we got and all the delicious flavors. While some foods are still a mystery to me - barbecue I can just take or leave, mostly leave - I know coffee and I know baked goods. The croissant I sampled was dry, implying unkindly that the flaky pastry dough was either formerly frozen or not fresh, and while croissants aren't exactly the moistest pastry to be found, the idea behind making them is kneading and rolling in a lot of butter, which I truly could not taste. What a disappointment. And somehow, somehow, my latte, albeit freshly prepared before me, was lukewarm when I took my first sip on the way to the car. How is that even possible? At the last minute, I asked for caramel to be added to my drink, but that was imperceptible too. I'd forgotten to ask for it to be half sweet, so I guess that was a blessing in disguise. When you stop by a bakery late in the day you sort of pays your money and takes your chances, but I visited just before noon. No crowds either. Disappointing all around, though again, the ambiance invites lingering. Cute bistro, lovely people, but - and I cannot believe I'm saying this - I'd have done better at the nearby Starbucks if all I wanted to do was get a latte and pastry. They even have a "Dietary Preference" menu (look for it online), with keto, gluten-free, and vegetarian options. Some servers aren't aware of this menu, but they will see it in their Toast device if they look for it. We have landed on a couple of favorite dishes that are repeats for us. I like the Spanish Omelet keto-style. Instead of a biscuit and grits, you get a half of an avocado (sliced) and a roasted tomato. The omelet is always full of flavor, and I love it. My husband's favorite is their White Chocolate Bread Pudding Pancakes, with bacon ($2 extra). Don't let the name deter you--these pancakes aren't too thick. They are slightly chewy, and the white chocolate whiskey sauce is amazing. He rarely uses the syrup! Ruby's coffee is always good and strong, and their service is great, no matter who you get.
