The sides were sensational. Mac & cheese was more cream than cheese based, but an incredible cheese taste nevertheless. The fries were crispy & high quality. A simple rustic vegetable plate hit the spot too. The mashed potatoes were creamy & flavorful. I had a glass of wine while my family had soft drinks. This for me is dining at its finest. Not complicated cuisine. Highest execution & quality of ingredients. I'll say again: it evokes my European heritage & the food my folks made growing up. 194 Euros. A deal for what you get. I could do this again and again and again.

Le Coq was recommended because it's unique yet extraordinary. I was not disappointed. Being from Texas I've had my fair share of chicken. This was hands down the best chicken I've had. The food was superbly prepared. We sprung for one of the full birds and four sides. We ate our meal in complete silence, just savoring the tastes and the atmosphere. While the rest of our vacation consisted of Michelin star restaurants like Jules Verne, Le Maurice etc, Le Coq was a welcomed break from the tasting menus and we can not recommend it high enough. Also, for anyone reading the reviews: This place isn't priced like your KFC or Popeyes. This is top of the line food, service, and atmosphere and priced accordingly. We'll be back next time we're in Paris.

When i asked why the restaurant is called "Gumbo Yaya" with no Gumbo the chef/owner who was so very kind said gumbo means a lot of things in Louisiana... My mother and I have been making Gumbo all our lives. We smiled and shook our heads. Ok then. lol This is a play on Soul Food. Not really southern cooking but Soul Food for folks that don't regularly cook. White-Euro comfort food. The staff is lovely. Our server was highly entertaining and sweet. The restaurant was packed so it's got a core audience which is great. But it's not Soul Food.

When we arrived, it was a bit small on the inside, almost where you had to get up to let someone else from another table out, but I was just glad to be here. We found the service to be lackluster, and although we eventually recognized that gumbo yaya was just the name, it was disappointing not to be able to have any actual gumbo that night. The decor and theme of the restaurant were so cute, and I loved the hip-hop and musical touches around. Coming from the States, when we see fillet on the menu, we often associate it with fish, so since individuals in the group were pescatarian, we thought it would be great for us all, as it was inclusive. But we quickly realized that fillet there was just a chicken breast, so from that, the menu just proved to be very limiting with basically just chicken, waffles, and a few soul food sides. I did decide on the chicken, waffles, yams, and the sweet tea, and I thought everything was pretty good, but it wasn't what I hoped it would be. But regardless, I'm glad we got to try a black-owned restaurant in Paris.
