Lucca is a beautiful historic town. It's quite popular, but still more quiet than one would expect. And that's a surprise, because it can compete with any famous major historic old town in Italy. The whole town itself is a neverending piece of art. It's just amazing.
So, if you plan on visiting this little gem, then you'll need to drop your car outside the city walls, since it's off limits (ZTL Zone). Your best bet is this huge parking lot here, just a short walk outside the walls. Lots of trees providing some shade for your car. Parking spaces are big enough to fit an mid-sized SUV easily. Since about a year now parking is completely free, to attract some visitors during Covid-19 times.
Just across the street are the city walls with the moat. You'll be in the historic Center in no time. From this parking lot it's about a 15-20' walk to the famous Chiesa di San Michele in Foro, the heart of the town.
A great option to park your car. If we are back one day we will definitely park here again. read more
