It was built in 2004 as a symbol of "bridging" a connection between the peoples of both states. There are two paths on the bridge, one for pedestrians and one for cyclists with a large platform in the center. There are gardens on both sides of the bridge with nice open spaces. We only spent a day here but I could easily see myself spending hours here daily picnicking or just relaxing. Even though we were here only a short time, I was so enamored with this bridge, I walked back and forth over it 5 or 6 times, each time stopping here and there to look over the sides, taking dozens of pictures of the bridge or selfies to convince friends that I was actually here, and to just sit and unwind on the center platform. I even had a chance to chat with some locals who thankfully knew how to speak English. The bridge is a symbol of friendship between the two shores so it was pretty cool that it was a way to for me to make new friends. :) I hope I get another chance to visit here someday.

But don't be afraid. There's no street with a lot of traffic. In contrast, it is quite silent and romantic. I recommend you to admire the different kinds of flowers and plants. They are said to be imported from countries all over the world. Apart of taking long walks, it's quite fun sitting on a bank observing the walkers or the playing children. If you like drinking a cup of tea or coffee, there're various coffee shops. Of course, you shouldn't forget to taste the Alsatian specialities.

I was taking the bus from Strasbourg (departing shortly after 9 PM) to Paris on a Tuesday night and…read morearrived here about 20 minutes early for boarding. The park was reasonably clean and it was easy to find the bus stop area. There was a public bathroom in the park, but it closed at 6 PM. There are some restaurants not a long walk away if you need to grab a bite and/or use the bathroom beforehand. It had been a drizzly evening, and there was a small amount of shelter over the waiting area of the bus stop; however, I don't think it would have done much in a downpour. Overall, not a bad place to catch a bus, but I wouldn't go out of my way to visit. As a solo female traveler (Asian of petite stature), I didn't feel unsafe at any point, even though it was late in the evening. The park was less than 15 minutes from the city center/Strasbourg Cathedral on foot.

It's wonderful to find natural habitat this close to an urban center. One problem is the proximity to a dirt bike park. The bikes are loud and distracting, but as you walk further into the park, one doesn't hear the noise anymore. There are some restricted areas near the hydro-electric plant, so watch for the signs. I found some new bird species here that are unique, and it's lovely to walk along the Rhine in a natural setting. One unusual feature of the park is that when you look across the water on one side, you see Germany.
