While visiting Oaxaca my internet-lessons professor of Spanish and his family brought me here…read more The food was plentiful and very good, the atmosphere relaxed and informal, the service excellent and typical: we'll leave you alone unless you need something. I prefer it. The seafood cocktail, shrimp and/or octopus, your choice, was quite large. We shared an anafre con botana, a pizza sized platter filled with strips of various grilled meats typical of Oaxaca, Oaxacan cheeses, and can't-remember-what-else, with the platter placed atop a stand. It's for two people but even so quite large, so we shared. At least, until I could eat no more. Fortunately, my teacher polished off the rest. My teacher spoke to the waiter. "There's té limón today. Do you want to try it instead of jamaica or horchata? It's very good and they often don't have it." "Sure." So the first of what would be several pitchers soon appeared. Very, very refreshing. Meanwhile, I pointed out that it was being served at other tables too. "Yes," he said. People are ordering it bc it's often not available." Towards the end, I dug into my wallet for a credit card. My teacher smiled, saying something like: "This is local Mexico. No credit cards here." I'd definitely return. Note: the restaurant is only open 1-6. Traditionally, the big meal is mid-afternoon.

This was a delicious afternoon lunch we stumbled upon while walking around Oaxaca. The advertised…read morespecial was the caldo de piedra. This is a delicious sea food soup served to you with an extremely hot stone which then makes your soup boil. My friend and I ordered that as well as the mole. From start to finish I cannot say enough good things about this place. Honestly, I was surprised the place was not more crowded. The food was so flavorful, delicious, and satisfying to the palate. This is definitely not a go to tourist spot and if you're ever in Oaxaca I highly recommend trying it. The menu had an array of options to choose from and I'm sure everything available is equally as delicious. I do hope to come back someday and partake in the other delicious entrees that are available.

The stone soup with shrimp was the best, it had a very unique taste and the drinks were not too sweet and were as natural as they can be. I also tried the quesadillas and the empanadas and they were great. The environment was awesome, it was as if you were in an authentic Mexican kitchen and dinner table. The women that attended us were super.I will recommend this place to anyone that is looking for a great experience of the culture and for something unique and delicious. This place is an unforgettable experience with a unique tradition that you have to experience first hand.
