The breakfast buffet (16 EUR/Person) is very good. The buffet has warm eggs, sausages and bacon and plenty of bread, slides meats, cheese and fresh fruit. The rooms are on the small side and not exactly super modern, but they were adequate enough. The beds were small, but comfortable enough and the wi-fi worked well. The bathrooms were small, but everything worked just fine. This hotel has a decent bar in the lobby called Hemingway's, like the author. They also have a pretty good breakfast spread in the morning.

When we arrived they had provided us with fresh fruit and bottled water, as well fresh flowers. Fresh flowers were put in the room regularly. I would get so hot walking back from class in the heatwave they had that summer, that my husband would turn the AC up in our room, which got to frigid levels. The hotel doesn't skimp on anything. Our room came with free morning breakfast (not all do), which was an incredible buffet the likes of which Las Vegas would be proud. The hotel staff was welcoming, the maids were perfection, and the room itself (a suite really) was both comfortable and beautiful. It has wonderful views and is right in the midst of town. It is very clean in the common areas and the pool area is immaculate. I'd stay there again in a heartbeat.

This hotel met our needs exactly. We enjoyed the hospitality, clean room, location and breakfast offerings. We would have enjoyed it even more but unfortunately tested positive for COVID and had to self-quarantine in our room. The innkeepers were nice enough to let us come down to the breakfast a few minutes early before other guests and to take our food our to the back courtyard to eat. The room and bathroom were a little small but quite cozy. Consider that that there is no elevator, though. As typical with inner-city hotels, you do hear nearby street noise but it was not overwhelming. We would definitely consider staying here again.

The service isn't great...or fast, but the setting is absolutely lovely and the food is quite good! The menu was in German and mine is not so good...Anyway, I order the ham plate - it came with thin slices of black forest ham, a delicious smoked sausage, a lightly-dressed salad, and some bread with butter (shaped like a bear...) I also ordered their refreshing "sommerdrink" that was a combination of grapefruit, grenadine, and tonic. Very good!

If you get a room on one of the top floors you'll get a grand view over the city and the rolling Schwarzwald hills - and the views will be quite mesmerizing from morning to night. My room was a queen sized one, nice and clean with what you could expect from a standard room. The obvious minus would be that the floor is carpeted with one of those old-fashioned carpets that are both yucky, non-allergy or environmental friendly. The bed and pillows are a bit soft plus there's something a bit mouldy smelly in the shower, the ventilation needs looking at. Also I miss sustainability efforts like the possibility to source separation your litter, a reminder that you needn't change your towels every day etc. Friendly staff, free wifi (although it's quite slow if you chose the free option) and the public transport ticket is included for all guests, which is great! Never tried the breakfast, not sure how well they could accomodate vegan options, I generally find hotel breakfasts boring and I love having breakfasts at cafes. So I'd sat opt out of the breakfast when you book your room and have a great breakfast at a nearby cafe instead (for example Huber or Café POW). With both pros and cons my overall rating will land at a strong 3.

However, they were very helpful in giving us directions to a rather obscure town on the edge of the Black Forest, and there was also a nice bar where I was able to have a beer before I ended up going to bed. Still, it was a rather nice hotel with friendly and helpful staff. Sure, I did want to check out the nightclub next door (that happened to be on the top floor of a building) but I ended up passing on that, and just relaxed in the bar.
