I've heard and read that Paper-Ya was awesome, so I finally had to come see for myself. It was everything I had read and more. I've always had a soft spot for stationary and I could easily unload most of my chequing account at this store. For $14 I caved and bought the potpourri mix of papers, a luxurious mix of texture and colour. Only barely did I pry myself away from the wooden stamps, the felted flowers, the sheets of pressed papers, each one unique and artistic. A fan is born!!! read more

Paper-Ya has a wonderful selection of decorative papers, including Florentine print, Japanese, Unryu, lotka, natural and handmade papers. They also have a nice selection of machine-made sheets of paper featuring whimsical and sophisticated prints and patterns. Everything is well-organized into drawers and the sales staff is there to help you select what you need. Prices are comparable to other paper shops I've visited. The shop also stocks a large collection of journals and notebooks, along with basic crafting supplies such as glue/adhesives, Japanese masking tape, and embellishments. read more

I am on the hunt to find some paper to make a mock up of a wedding invite. I have to give a sample to my mother to make sure she orders exactly what I want my invitation to look like. Drawers and drawers of paper. I love paper... so pretty. If I wasn't so focused on finding sheets of yellow and green, I would have taken a better look at all the other notebooks and pens. I couldn't find a shade of green that I needed. The woman working was so helpful! She tried to help me find the right shade of green, she even let me look in the stock room with her, but still no dice. Then she suggested something I would have never even thought of: RIBBON! Eureka! I got a yard of ribbon the right shade of green I needed to tie up the mock invite. I am so happy I went there. She was so knowledgeable of all their stock and really took the time to help me find what I needed. read more

I am one of those rare individuals that loves to write....on anything I can get my hands on. So when there's a store filled with pretty and original journals and paper items, I'm in heaven! Whenever I go to a new city, I always look up stationary and paper stores. Yelp highly recommended this one and I have say kudos! It has so many different options, I picked up a few pens, spiral notebooks, a couple journals, and a couple composition books. All a great deal and all original. Back in the states I'm asked where I got the journals I'm writing in. A great little find and will make this a stop whenever I'm in Vancouver. Paper-Ya is pretty much the only reason I go to Granville Island..well..and now for Edie Hats... They have such an eclectic selection if wares...beautiful papers, cards, journals and note books, watches, bags, wallets, vases, globes, my God you name it..they have it! I can pretty much do the bulk of my Christmas shopping in one stop...no lie...most of my partners stocking stuffers last year were purchased here..his fave was a kitchy aluminum water bottle... and just when I think I'm done I get to the counter and they have more cool little things at the cash wrap...fun pens and cute mini horoscope books..I'm suck a sucker for "cute" crap... I was in recently and one of the staff was very chatty...taking about what was new in the store..showing me her favorite products....I like it when you can tell people love where they work..it says a lot! read more

Cute stantionary store on Granville Island. I originally came to look for origami paper but instead found a lot of unique paper related products and gifts. If you want to make any DIY, or look for unique presents for your loved ones, check out this store. "Yay for paper!' would be the universal chant for all Paper-Ya fans. This place is stuffed inside-out with all kinds of notebooks, stationary, and handmade fibre papers. It's practically a dream for those weird people who love to buy notebooks for anything and everything, and who like to repeatedly run their hands over paper. And yes, I'm one of those people. I love looking at all the notebooks, and seeing what kinds they have for different purposes. The store is organized into various sections, like notebooks in one spot, and then letter-writing and supplies in another, and stamps and fibre papers in yet another. Paper-Ya has some really unique stuff, particularly the handmade papers. You'll rarely find them elsewhere. As much as I love gazing at all the beautiful things, there is never any way the prices will ever seem justified to me. It's just so crazy expensive in this place, you really need to close your eyes and just take the plunge to pay that much for something here. Maybe I'll work my way to it one day. But for now, I'll settle for browsing and creepily running my hands over the paper. read more

Definitely a fabulous find as far as stationary stores go . Its small but they have an excellent merchandiser. I love those li'l leather bound travel journals with the leather string wrap around . Those are super cute. Also some sleek metallic finish leather bound journals caught my eye. I am going to be spending more time here for sure. Paper-Ya makes me drool. The beautiful boxed cards make me want to write hand written notes. The notebooks make me want to keep ten journals. The textured wrapping paper makes me wish there was a special occasion that warranted something wrapped in such lovely paper. However, I was going there specifically for greeting cards and though the ones they had were beautiful and the style I was looking for, I was disappointed by the amount of selection. I bought one card and ended up buying something else that I was not shopping for at all! :) The lack of greeting cards aside, the shop is excellent. I love journals and this was heaven! read more

They have a really good selection of unique stationary that you probably wouldn't find anywhere else. Especially "Knock Knock" branded stationary. Going into this store makes me remember how awful it is to be dependent on all things digital. I am one of those people that inexplicably goes weak at the knees for cool notebooks and paper, so Paper-Ya is a playland for me. They carry a great selection of Pantone, Leuchtturm and Moleskine products (bread and butter for the notebook-obsessed), as well as lots of others that I haven't seen in most other stationary stores. Even if I manage to resist buying anything, it's still fun to browse through all the cool stuff they have. I wish they would expand their stock to include more awesome pens or other stationary items. I realise that isn't the point as it's clearly supposed to be exclusively a paper store, but you use pens to write on paper, right? read more

I never want to go into stationary stores because I know that I will come out broke.. so broke. But I broke down, and finally went into Paper-Ya. I didn't regret it but I did have to tell my friend to give me a time limit. I didn't get to travel through the whole store but I did see all their big sheets of paper and huge selection of pretty ribbon. I went through every drawer of paper just looking. The sales lady said I could touch and i'm happy that my hands were clean. I was happy. very very happy. The service was amazing. Friendly staff helping me through the whole visit. Always a fan of this shop and always have to visit when I'm at Granville Island. This is a beautiful stationary store. It has tons of stuff for the crafter (card paper, cards, stamps, seals, twine, ribbon etc) and for the writer (journals, notebooks, check lists, specialty books etc). I probably make about 3 trips around the store just to make sure I catch a glimpse of everything. I recently bought a Decomposition notebook for only $10! The only thing I wish this store had more of was pens. They have a few but they all seem just okay. I am a sucker for a good pen!! Until then Paper-ya. read more

We have never been so astoundingly upset with a level of customer service in a store in our lives. While Christmas shopping we went in to the store looking for a present. We found a nice small (5x7) leather bound notebook. The price was a little outrageous ($120) for what was essentialy a notebook with a piece of leather wrapped around it however we thought it was a nice gift. Being unsure, we specifically asked if we could return the item if we changed our minds to which the sales person repsonded 'absolutely' as long as it's still new / unused. A fair policy so we made the purchase. As our shopping continued we found another book that would be a better present and at a much better price. We went back to the store with our receipt and the book which had never been even taken out of the gift box. When we attempted to return the book we were told we could only have store credit. We expalined our sales experience and how we were told we could bring it back. The response was a very condesending "You can bring it back and you have, we will give you store credit". This is the most deceitful method of sales we have ever seen in our lives. Why would anyone shop for a gift if they don't have the ability to return it if it's not desired?! Add to that the rudeness with which we were dealt and the underhanded way we originally we sold the item and we are furious. We are actually considering filing a claim against the store at this point - just on principle alone. Please, please DO NOT shop at this store. Underhanded, take every penny we can and forget everything else people like this need to be shown that their kind of business will not be tolerated by good, honest people. Paper and these products can be bought anywhere, for much less and from people who do business honestly, make the small effort to find somewhere else. read more

Sooo much to peruse! From journals, sketchbooks, papers, stamps, ribbons, nick-nacks, even wax seals, their selection considering the small size of their space is quite extensive. I do find it to be a tad overpriced compared to other craft stores around the city, however they do have a wonderful variety of unique purchasables. A paper stationery lover's dream! I'll admit I'm the last person that needs any more notebooks and stationery. I still have pristine paper notebooks and pads from when I was a teenager... I don't know whether I actually had any intention of using them, but I've always loved collecting stationery and I still do. The store was quite busy and isn't the biggest, but I enjoyed browsing the books, cards, and notebooks available. I also recently started learning modern calligraphy, and I was pleasantly surprised to see they carried a few bottles of Moon Palace Sumi ink and Best Bottle Sumi ink. They apparently aren't very easy to find in the city so I was happy to see it here. I didn't purchase anything, but for anyone looking for some unique cards and beautiful gifts for a stationery lover, this is the place! read more

I love this store. Every time I am on Granville island this is a place I love to stop. We bought my boyfriends mom some calligraphy pens and letter writing stuff. We also bought her a seal and a few different colors of wax to seal the letters. She of course loves to write letters so it was an easy choice. I also mad my mom the infamous 1,000 cranes (mini style, even harder) and got all of the Origami paper here. They have a huge variety. This store is one of the great things about this fantastic little island. We don't drive and in fact we always secretly laugh at the people who try to bring their cars down there. I would recommend parking it off the island and walking down or maybe try the really fun Aqua bus. read more

All I can say is WOW... I came here simply seeking gift box for a new Dooney & Bourke purse I bought my mum for her birthday since HBC didn't carry gift boxes. Not only did they have an amazing selection of boxes, they chose the perfect one that matched it perfectly, packaged it with care, wrapped it with exceptional talent and even created a handmade bow for it. It looks like something you would see him a catalog! The staff was incredibly courteous and kind and even wish my mother a happy birthday when I left. I am one of those people whom doesn't have an ipad or an iphone with fancy aps. I am in my 30's and I still find it easier to just write with old school pen and paper and print shit out. This store is perfect for the old school writers like me whom prefer the art of writing in fancy notebooks, stationary and sending love through the hand rather than texting.
