I'm so happy that Paper Source opened a location in Palo Alto. It's such a fantastic resource for anyone who loves to play with stationary, colored paper, stamps and generally anything that will allow them to explore their creative side. I loved that they had a letterpress kit here when I visited a few months ago. They have workshops to teach customers how to make various creative projects from assembling flowers out of paper to how to make letterpress cards. I've always been a keen supporter of the notion that a good party starts from the first moment your guests open your invitations. After all, it is your first chance to make a good impression. I've always been impressed with this store's eclectic selection of invitations from their letterpress cards, recycled paper card stock postcards, to their cheeky invitations that seem to cover every possible occasion. I love the fact that they have a colored paper wall filled with various sizes and weights of paper. This is a great place to go for stationary and for inspiration. I do think that you have to be in a creative mood to enjoy yourself here, so when you're feeling crafty...hit this place up. read more

Well, plenty -- but I will distill it down for you... * Amazingly beautiful papers for crafting, wrapping, or just staring at in admiration * Cute and kitschy gift ideas * Pretty and fun stuff for holidays... and I don't just mean Christmas, but for most major holidays they have decorations, crafts, etc * A good selection of very pretty stamps + a great selection of stamp pads (primarily ColorBox, if that means something to you) * Tooooonnnnns of paper options in a variety of colors and sizes * Beautiful cards -- boxed sets, individual cards, Christmas cards, etc * Examples of craft ideas all over the store * Classes. Things do tend to be on the pricier side, and there aren't generally sales, but if you want something special (especially paper) this is a GREAT place to stop in. It does seem that customer service is not quite as present here as it is in other Paper Source locations. I haven't had a bad experience like some of the other Yelpers, but yeah -- it's not as though I have had notable positive experiences, either. On my last visit, everyone seemed pretty busy: a kid's class was taking place (and one or two staffers were there), someone was training a new employee (or something), and one person was on and off the register. If I had a legit crafting question, I don't know who would've answered it -- and that's part of the reason to come here... to get their tips, tricks, and ideas. I need a thank you card and I needed one quickly. Paper Source was on my way so I dropped in to pick up a card. I've been to Paper Source several times before for paper and had noticed that they had cards too. When I arrived, I was surprised at how few cards they actually had! They had about 6 or 7 "thank you" cards to choose from. I didn't like any of the designs and the one that I thought was simply ok was $8! I decided to look at their multi-pack of "thank you" cards and found some cute ones in a pack of 10 for $13 and went with those. The cashier was helpful but I wouldn't return to Paper Source for cards, I'd recommend Papyrus at Stanford Shopping Center or even Target over the cards at Paper Source. read more

I am always buying from PaperSource for my wedding invitation business. If I have a large enough order to qualify for free shipping--I'll order it online to save the time and gas. :) When I do go to the store, people there are always very helpful! The staff is friendly, especially Hillary who happens to be there many weekends that I am shopping. Their envelopes are very high quality and come in beautiful colors, I love that they are always adding to the collection to stay on trend. It never fails when I set foot in the door -I buy cards! They have an awesome selection of beautifully letterpressed cards for every occasion. It's my go to place when I am in a pinch for a birthday card! My only beef with PaperSource is that if the store is out of something, they don't know when they will get it in. I'm always told when the next shipment is, but that they don't know what it will contain. I wish that they offered free shipping when ordered from the store to make up for occasions like this, like many other retailers do. read more

I'm really big into stationary and I know my stuff. They have some cute things but the items they actually produce are mediocre. I'm not impressed with their designs and paper choice. If you want jaw-droppingly beautiful, personal stationary, this isn't the place. I'm a bit confused by the back of the store. Am I physically suposed to be making my stationary? Workshops? Beautiful sheets of paper which I guess are for wrapping. I wish they carried more stationary at that quality. The greeting card section is good. It's quirky, which is fun, but if a very polished look is your thing, skip it. read more

I love this location -- I think it is the perfect size with just the right amount of carefully selected merchandise. If you are into handcrafting your own cards or if you like wrapping presents artistically, then this is an excellent shop to check out. The individual greeting cards sold at Paper Source are adorable, but super pricy at about $6-$8 a pop. In my opinion, the true value is in the packs of cards. They are modern, artistic, and sophisticated without being stuffy in the slightest. I love to buy their stacks of cards and add my own embellishments. The rubber stamp selection is also wonderful. Though quite limited, the stock is clearly chosen carefully, with no ugly duckling in the bunch. My mom is a teacher, and she loves to buy the adorable robots to cutie giraffes to stamp each kids' paper to indicate it was graded. I myself buy the rubber stamps for card making (like the alpha letters, thank you's, merci's, and the like). Oddly, there is also an extensive tsotchke selection. It's sort of like all of the bits and bobs sold at Urban Outfitters, and then some, have made their way to the Paper Source shelves. Trends of the moment, like owls and cupcakes, adorn many of the trinkets. Overall, for my papercrafting needs, I would rather go to Paper Source than Michael's or JoAnne's, because the quality is far superior, and I feel like the managers have already weeded out anything that isn't tasteful. Well, I went to meet a friend the other day who is attending Stanford and we met at Peet's for a coffee....low and behold before my very eyes was a PAPER SOURCE right here in Palo Alto - Town & Country Village. I walked in and the staff was so nice, cheerful and extremely helpful. I wanted to see how to make something they had in their window and I felt like they wanted to show me. Sometimes in the past when one asks for help you feel like you are putting the customer service people out. Not here...let me tell you. I loved shopping the Paper Source in Chicago, such a great building and inventory. I am so happy to have a location open within easy driving distance here. The Palo Alto location is smaller but very nice and convenient. A good selection of basics for all sorts of projects. It is definitely a nice resource to have in the area. I love this little place! The staff is pretty helpful, the cards are quite unique, and they have a unicorn section... what?!? They also have classes you can take, the coolest wrapping paper I ever did see, and a 50% off calendar sale for 2016. They also have the items to "make your own' if you so choose, and the ability to buy basic cards and edit/add designs to them in store. Plus they have personalized stamps, etc. as well. I want to first say that I love Paper Source products. They store makes a non-crafty person's life easy and a crafty person's mind explode. However, the customer service I received in the Palo Alto store today was so bad that it was worth writing a negative review. In short, I received attitude for asking a question and then at the checkout counter I was cut in front of by on oblivious customer, but instead of getting support from the lady working the cashier she apologized to the lady who cut in front of me. I left confused/angry and wondering if one needs to look like a rich white lady to get good service. I'm going to stick with the Santana Row store from now on. This store is small compared to the store in Santana Row and the store in Berkeley. The assortment is a little more limited but it does the job if you are walking in for some crafty inspiration. In general I love Paper Source's assortment of product and that's why I like to stop in from time to time to browse. You can find Cavallini's vintage inspired products here - rubber stamps, stickers, notebook, etc. There's beautiful premium paper (solid and prints) for card making, present wrapping, etc. The coolest thing is the customized rubber stamp and embosser. The lady at this store was very thorough in explaining on how the process of procuring one works. read more

In spite of the fact they did not have any father birthday cards in stock, I had a very pleasant shopping experience. The clerk was very helpful and asked me if they could help me, and suggested blank cards as they did not carry the product I was looking for. I love paper, stamps, art projects, calendars, etc. I also love good customer service. I walked in to this store today with a friend. We walked around for a good 30 minutes and no one offered to help us. I was looking for a particular item so finally I asked for assistance. I was guided to the item and I was asked if I also wanted another item next to it which I did not want or need. When I said no thank you the clerk just walked away without asking if there was anything else. There were only a couple of customers in the store and several clerks and the store manager who was busy rushing around walking by many times without ever looking at either or us. There is nothing in this store that I can't find somewhere else and at probably a better price and with better customer service. read more

I am a huge fan of the Paper Source in Santa Row, however the Palo Alto location is lacking product, ambiance and customer service. Upon at least a dozen visits, the PA location has either not had ideas nor had a specific product. This happened yet again this week, so I'm finally rating them. When you go to Santa, the store is well organized, there are lots of ideas and the staff will take the time to understand your needs and suggest creative (and doable) solutions. There are so many cute bits and bobs here to pick up for gifts and sweet cards to send out. Browsing is always great fun. I also enjoy choosing sheets of wrapping paper. Much of it is too nice to throw away! I only give it 3 stars because I don't like being hounded by the staff that always seems to follow me around. I can never tell if they are over eager to help / sell or they are watching me for shop lifting. Either way, it bugs and I tend to get out sooner than I would if I was left to look around in peace. The prices are also rather high so I choose very carefully when I do buy something rather than buying much and often. Still, I know that I will likely be back. I first went in to check out the alluring selection of wrapping papers and calendars at Christmas time...have since come back for cards, stationary, and Archie McPhee-ish (Seattle-ites will know what I am talking about) array of goodies like the large tablet sh*t list, a self inking stamp that says "Thanks for being..." then check boxes for -you, -an asshole, -both, food face plates, drum stick pencils, cards how to swear in other languages, tiny beaded purses, magnets, funny books by Paul Arden and so on. I'll be back to waste more money on useless funny stuff....but have yet to buy one sheet of paper. read more

I was looking for a specific envelope with a specific color/texture to match my wedding invitations. I brought in my invitations and found an almost near exact match. I could not have been happier. Their supply of colors for the #10 (open ended) envelope was impressive. The gals at the counter were very helpful and friendly. I needed about 15 packages of envelopes in total but they only had 8 in stock. I was shocked that they gave me the discount that you can only get when you buy 10+ packackes even though I only bought 8. They even called the San Jose store to make sure they had enough in stock and put those on hold for me at the same discount!
