This crafts market is located in the central part of the city, and it's near a court of other food markets. The market itself has well over 100 individual stores, and each store has some different to offer. I came in at around noon, and many of the shops that I walked passed, encouraged me to come and see what they have. There are so many near things to choose from that I decided to return this weekend when I have some money in my pocket. I saw some really cool authentic hand made plates that my wife would love. The prices here are also fair, especially considering the time it takes to make some of these pieces. Apart from the awesome crafts, I think that this would be a great way to support the community here.

If you don't speak Spanish and don't want to haggle, look for the stores with posted prices- there are plenty. Culturally, this is not a market where you haggle/try to cut the prices much- so don't go in thinking an item listed at 500 pesos can be bought for 100. Be respectful, much of this is made by the sellers, some working right onsite. Loads of beautiful stuff, from jewelry to tiled mirrors (mine made it home safely!) and alebrijes. Many things you won't find at the airport stores (though it has some decent items), so this market is worth the trip. I brought cash but many stores/booths accept cards here.

This admittedly tourist-driven market is a one-stop shop for any souvenirs, clothing, or art you might want to take back home. We just ended up buying a simple (fairly cheap) souvenir shot glass for a friend while here. However, even after our official shopping obligation was done, it was a lot of fun to just wander through the stalls and admire the arts and crafts on display. There are even some vendors selling various food items if that's the kind of souvenir you're into (I sure am!). I really appreciated how the vendors were not very pushy about forcing their wares on you, or in your face about luring you into their stores to take a look--this is always my least favorite part of shopping at markets in most countries. This, no doubt, contributed to the pleasantness of my experience here. There was a free dance performance by students from a local dance school while I was here, so that was fun to watch for a little while. There's also a restaurant in the middle of the market if you need some fuel to get you through your shopping spree.

I love the colors, the feel of "discovering" a great bargain or a unique piece of craftwork. It may seem like there's a lot of repetition here (and there is...) but if you take the time, and really check out all the hidden nooks and crannies, you're bound to find a true, one of a kind gem (or twelve...)!! I could spend a week in here!! There's a cafe mid way through the market, and restrooms toward the back. Don't miss the non-craft (foods, spices, etc.) vendors around the perimeter, don't waste too much time trying to bargain/heckle, as most of the prices are super reasonable (though some vendors will give you great deals for volume buying) and one of your purchases before leaving CDMX might just be another suitcase (or three!) to bring home all your WONDERFUL finds here at the Ciudadela Market!! ANIMO!!! Shop here, DON'T wait til you're leaving at the airport, and see lesser-quality work for 3x the price!!

I wanted to get a couple of nice things so I began to search for stores that carried furniture and other types of cool things like perhaps even artwork. I found this store online and the actually have a couple of locations. This one was the closest to me. The first things that I saw was the dining set that was handmade from Patambanán Michoacán. The set of four plates of three sizes, bowls, and cups came to be around $8,000. They looked absolutely beautiful. The service here wasn't the best considering the high-end items that they sell. The lady at the register barely even acknowledge d my existence. She was preoccupied with some sales slips and seemed to have trouble getting up out of her chair, to help out another customer. However the one gentleman wasnice and helpful. I would definitely recommend this store for their great products, bit less like to recommend for their service.

The sales staff is bilingual, and they take credit cards. They can explain what it is you're looking at, so you know what you are purchasing. If you decide whether or not to do so. They don't mind window shopper's. You can find many of the things they carry at the various markets and tanguis scattered around Mexico City for less money. But, none are as stunning as they are here. Why do people shop at Tiffany's? I think for the same reasons.

It doesn't seem as busy and it feels more like Mexico than many of the urban areas. This market is a part of what gives the area its charm. Because coyoacan is the home of Frida Kahlo, Coyoacan is known to be home to many artists. While I didn't see that on a Tuesday afternoon, I hear the weekends and nights are more lively. This market full of local vendors, but a lot of what's here is touristy souvenirs that aren't cheap. Was considering rating this 3 stars as I couldn't find anything I really wanted to buy; however I do think it's an essential part of the local flavor
