American visiting Helsinki here. I woke up at 4:30AM this morning jet lagged AF, so naturally I…read morestarted "the scroll" to find places near my Air BnB that might help fuel me through. Sävy was a short walk, and the coffee shop I found that opened the earliest. Though it's listed as being open at 7:30, they actually open at 8am. I showed up at 7:47, and happily waited the extra 13 minutes until they invited me in. (What else am I going to fucking do with 13 minutes?). I ordered a breakfast combo that included a croissant, granola/yogurt bowl, and upgraded my coffee drink to a double cappuccino. The barista asked me what perfume I was wearing because apparently I smelled good. I remarked that it may have been the woman ahead of me, but it happened to be the dude's girlfriend, so he was pretty sure it wasn't her. I wasn't wearing a fragrance but the air BnB had a Linden Blossom bath wash...anyways. I was feeling good about smelling good even though I felt like shit. I digress I was stupid hungry, so I demolished that croissant before my coffee drink and granola bowl was ready. It was buttery, flaky, fresh and delicious. "On point" as the kids say. I was too tired to remember to order oat milk with my coffee, so I drank it with whole milk. It was rich, and chocolately like I like my coffee drinks. I might pay for the whole milk later, but it couldn't be worse than the airline food I had yesterday. So fuck it. The granola bowl with yogurt was legit. Breakfast here just hits different. The presentation was great, and it had the perfect ratio of fruit, honey, and cinnamon. I had a little more time to kill so I ordered another single cappuccino with oatmilk this time (internally convincing myself it would offset the whole milk drink) it was also delicious. Additionally, they have a pretty dope music playlist, wi-fi, and cool art on the walls. I'll be coming back every morning until my stay here is up. Kiitos, Sävy

The service is laid-back and friendly and it is really a nice place to hang out in. It is sort of outside the city center but if you happen to be in the area it is a must to visit and I would say for anyone interested in coffee it is a definite stop if you happen to be in Helsinki.

tl;dr - Great atmosphere, friendly staff, fantastic DJs, and don't forget to try the cocktails (or…read morethe coffee, if you're not into drinking)! There's something about the ambience in here that I really love, and so I can easily say it's my favorite bar in Helsinki. This place is the site of the former canteen for the harbour workers, hence its name, and the interior decor is very representative of its history. Across the ceiling are numerous flags from different countries, and along the walls you'll see some photos of the old canteen. The furniture is classy, old-fashioned and gives the bar an incredibly cozy feeling, more like hanging out at home than in a public venue. The bar counter itself is part of a boat hull, which is also really cool. The cocktails/mixed drinks are all great, and they've got a couple of local specialities that can't be missed, such as the Bus Island Iced Tea, a Jätkäsaari spinoff of a Long Island Iced Tea. The beer selection is pretty standard, so if you're not into the fancier drinks, you're covered. The coffee and pastries have also been good from my experience, as well as the selection of tea (although you're paying a bit much for a cup of hot water). The music selection seems to rotate every so often - for the first couple times that I came here, it was mostly classic Finnish rock. Another few times, it was Latino music. The live DJs are both wonderful, especially the one who works on Saturdays - he was making up short poems as a form of introduction to the upcoming songs, as well as occasionally whipping out a small flute and playing it! Very spunky guy, and fun to listen to. The staff are also fantastic - I didn't sit at the bar to chat with them, but they are definitely friendly and they like to converse with their customers. I think there is a large group of locals who come in as regulars here, and they've gotten to know the bartenders well. There's always a swarming crowd in the evenings on weekends at the bar, so be warned - get your seats early! It's much quieter on weekdays, but it's certainly not empty.
