It's a small hole-in-the-wall that can easily be side stepped, but it's well worth the visit. My boo and I stopped in after meandering through Santa Margherita. We had a hefty breakfast just a few hours before and were feeling a little drained from the hot summer sun. Hence, we decided to grab a quick snack instead of a sit down lunch. Boy, oh boy. We lucked out! This place was deeeeelicious. The focaccia bread was soft and well-seasoned; it was a perfect complement to the marinara and sacchino cheese topping. While there were only a few whole olives atop the pizza, the rich olive flavor came through and blended well with the rest. As a cherry on top, it was only €2.70 for a large rectangular piece! Would highly recommend this cute little place. Other tips: only has one small 2-seater so not great to stay...more of a grab and go. Make sure you grab a ticket from the front entrance- this serves as your place in line. We had to wait 5-7min for our turn.

They serve Italians first and then serve tourists with an attitude. We saw a group of tourists who wanted to sit together and they were not Italian and this place wouldn't move the tables together. They are rigid and inflexible. We were surprised since Monterroso is filled with tourists and this has not been our experience at other restaurants and places we have eaten at. Don't waste your time, save your money and put it to good use at other places that are very welcoming of Americans and tourists.

I'm talking about the kind of food that elicits an audible response moments after your first bite. The focaccia bread at Pacifico Focacceria is like taking a bite out of heaven. Crisp, yet soft and chewy, these breads are the perfect handheld bites to take with you on the go, or stand at a nearby table and indulge in. My wife and I enjoyed two varieties - pesto and mozzarella and one with onions and sausage. Both of them were absolutely fantastic! In fact, if I didn't have to catch a ferry, I easily could've ordered two more and sat down and enjoyed them with a bottle of wine. I've enjoyed many great focaccia breads in Italy, but these easily rank among the best for me.

We walked by again around 9:15 AM and the place was still closed, completely dark, and with no signs of activity. I figured the business had gone away. We found baked goods elsewhere and went on with our day. Later that afternoon we happened to pass by again, and the store was open with a small selection of cannoli and some other sweets. So it seems like in its current state, this is a mid-afternoon bakery of confections. Or something. If you want bread, go to Crai.

Focaccia doesn't get any better than this! Take my word for it. Monterroso is the largest town of…read morethe Cinque Terre, but the biggest thing it has going for it, in my book, is their focaccia, a well-known Ligurian specialty. The nice thing about this place is its close proximity, right by the train station, directly on the left as you come into town. You can't miss it, as it's the first you'll see of many places serving focaccia in town. The not so nice feature is the long lines during the warm weather. No need to fret, as it moves fairly quickly. You'll have the option of having your focaccia room temperature or heated. I strongly suggest having it lightly heated, the way it's intended to be eaten. Since it's made with lots of olive oil, having it heated helps to just slightly crisp both the top and the bottom, making a great contrast to the soft interior. I've never attempted making focaccia at home, but now I'm tempted to at least try this. I never ever have focaccia in the San Francisco Bay Area. Never Ever. Even the so-called best places really suck. If I could, I would have focaccia every day here. We've had plenty of focaccia from well-known bakeries in Florence since coming here and they've all been outstanding. However, we keep thinking back to the phenomenal one we had here at Il Massimo. We had ours smeared all over with their fresh brilliant green pesto, and it was to die for! Seriously. We just purchased focaccia for dinner from a local bakery in Florence tonight, and though it was excellent, it wasn't quite as good as the one at Il Massimo, where they specialize in focaccia. Actually, they don't just specialize in focaccia, they excel in focaccia!!
