The exterior and entrance is beautiful but the interior left me wanting more I don't know if it's the more open concept but the restaurant seems smaller than before. I prefer the old dining room was a more comfortable atmosphere. Service is not the best I feel like that has also declined. I have been on multiple occasions and will continue to come but something's need a little improvement. This is still the best location to come to. Our server did not bring the food until it's not hot anymore. Food never come out as waited more than an hour to get the them and is already cold. Then another 30 mins to get dessert. Exceeded all expectations! We all know and love Panda Express but did you know about the restaurant version?? First off, make a reservation there is always a line seems to be always busy and now I know why:) Staff was courteous and attentive from beginning to end. Such a pleasure to feel true customer service especially when so busy. (Reservation at 5:15pm) Started with Spring rolls and jazmine tea... authentic and traditional...set the tone for the rest of the meal. Broccoli beef and shrimp noodles were outstanding. The remodel is quite beautiful. With the ambience, I expected the prices to be higher but it isn't. The food quality is like Wynn Las Vegas hotel's Wazuzu and Red 8- high quality food. I loved the dungeoness crab salad, the mu shu wrap. The chargrilled beef short ribs was cooked to perfection. The Taiwanese braised pork rice was very tasty. Steamed Chilean Sea Bass melted in our mouth- perfectly cooked, not chewy as some more poor quality sea bass can be. Black Pepper tenderloin steak was excellent. Servers were excellent. Did a walk-in on a Friday night and had to wait 2 hours to be seated and then an additional hour for the food to be served. Now don't get me wrong, I completely understand that I was already partially crazy pulling this on a Friday night and I was 100% mentally prepared to wait a long period of time because I was so excited to try the food. What I wasn't prepared for was the attitude and horrible customer service from the hostesses. I was originally told the wait would be 1-1.5 hours.. so once my party of 5 hit the 2 hour mark, we began to question if we should even keep waiting. My brother found the owner and told him how long we had been waiting and we were immediately sat down at a table. All of us were low energy because we were so hungry and we had made sure to thank the owner and hostesses.... But you can imagine our surprise when the hostesses showed us to our table and clearly looked annoyed and were exchanging dirty looks to each other. And if that weren't enough, as they walked away we saw them whispering to each other and then looking to our area again. After they sat us down, they gave us plates and utensils but neglected to give us any menus. It was very clear that the hostesses did not want to seat us. I didn't get the names of the hostesses but I did get a video of the restaurant and saw that the hostesses were in them, so I did make sure to include a screenshot of the rude ones. It was such an unfortunate situation because I was genuinely so excited to try the food but the passive aggressiveness from the hostesses made it such an uncomfortable dining experience. The best chinese food there is! The servers are so kind, and the vibes are up. Each dish was exceptional and had amazing flavors. Compared to other Chinese restaurants, Panda Inn provides more authentic menu offerings, and a fashionably modern aesthetic. I am glad I went here today :) Shoutout our waiter, Eugene! Breaking down what made the food so good: 1) The black pepper sirloin was cooked so perfectly medium rare. It melted in your mouth. It was like eating filet mignon with every bite. 2) The crispy calamari was fried just enough so there wasn't too much oil or too much focus on the breading and batter. Very nice balance. It completed the soft texture of the squid itself, so that it was not rubbery. 3) The honey walnut shrimp is always my go to dish. Just like the calamari, the breading was not too intense, allowing for more attention on the shrimp itself. The shrimp was cooked to perfection. It moist and each bite was a burst of flavor. 4) The sushi was outstanding. We ordered a plate of four types of nigiri. I forget the name of the fish exactly, but one of the fish (the one on the rightmost side in the photo) had a nice smokey flavor to it. It was the same grade sushi as going to a sushi restaurant. 5) The lava cake and the (purple rice?) pudding were just so flavorful. The place that started well known chain Panda Express! Panda Inn opened 51 years ago and recently renovated the whole place with an ample parking garage. I recommend getting a reservation or else the wait time can be long. When I checked in I was promptly sat down and ordered a variety of dishes. They do serve sushi here and it's very fresh quality and would recommend if you want to splurge a little. Otherwise the classic orange chicken you can not miss. It is worlds better than the one offered at Panda Express, I can taste the difference in the freshness while still having that classic special panda orange chicken taste. The kung pao chicken was good, but I would skip it. Mapo tofu was also delicious it has a hint of the mala spice but I wish it lingered for a little bit longer. If you want a little parasite (Korean movie) moment I think the perfect dish that highlights this is the filet mignon chow fun. It fits the aesthetic of the interior and the whole restaurant concept as well - high end Chinese food. You can not miss this place if you are visiting in the area or just a local. read more

The new Panda Inn is huge. This was the night following the Grand Opening and they were offering complementary valet service along with self-parking. We had reservations at 4:30 and were seated right away. Even though they were booked up, it was obvious they were limiting the amount of diners since there were many empty seats. Smart move. Not surprisingly, they were working out the kinks of opening a new restaurant with all new staffing as best they could . Our food came fairly quickly (after the complimentary sushi) in about 5 minute intervals. Our waitress made sure we had refills of iced and hot tea. We enjoyed a leisurely dinner and didn't feel rushed. Even though we didn't have alcoholic drinks, there were some good looking offerings at the bar. After we finished everything we waited, and waited, and waited for our waitress to come back. It was well over an hour until we received the bill, finally asking one of the managers. But we kind of expected this and were of course thrilled to eat one of their famous white chocolate dipped fortune cookies that arrived at the end. It's a great place to visit and If anything, I can say their food is even better than before. The idea of adding a sushi bar, with a twist on presentation, was ingenious. Their wait staff is very diverse, unlike the past, and by the time we left 90 minutes after arrival, all four of us agreed we were eager to come back! PS The parking garage is still not completely finished. The parking lot across the street belongs to the company and offers an alternative place to park if necessary. I was on the City of Pasadena's Design Commission and saw the plans for the restaurant, garage with storefronts as well as apartments in the architectural plans. Finally tried Panda Inn after several decades of being a big fan of Panda Express and it exceeded my expectations in every way. The new restaurant is a great space with great layout and some private rooms too which would be great for family gatherings. The drink menu was surprisingly great. The short rib was bangin. My friend and I had two dishes at lunch: the Lions' Head Meatballs ($18), which comes to the table in a lidded hot pot, four very large meatballs in a tasty brown sauce with Julienned green cabbage. I couldn't finish more than two. It was served with complimentary white rice. We also ordered their famous orange chicken ($22), which was a little spicier than at Panda Express because it had flakes of red bell pepper on it. We could've used a little more orange sauce on that dish; I thought it was a little dry. However, the flavor was very good. My companion liked that it wasn't too crispy. It also included rice. Our server was outstanding. She couldn't have been nicer or more concerned that we would have a great time. I would go back just for her. I'm sorry, but I don't know her name. The newly renovated Panda Inn is very beautiful. It is modern and spacious with very high ceilings and lots of natural light, and the seating is very nice and not too close together. We made a reservation through Yelp about a week in advance of going. And even though it was a Monday, it was quite busy. We ordered the following: - Shrimp and lobster wontons - Chicken corn egg drop soup - Crab Wontons - Phoenix chicken - Vegetable fried rice - lychee martini The food overall was very mediocre but it may have been affected by the fact that our food came to us so late. They definitely have to work on bringing the food to the correct table because people kept bringing the wrong food to us. This happened twice before we asked where our food and drink was. Also, my cup of water was empty the whole time. Even after asking to have it refilled. Considering the wait and the price of the food, this place wasn't worth it to me. I was pretty excited when Panda Inn reopened after remodeling. Initially, my family and I had a positive experience. The atmosphere was very nice, and the food was great. Unfortunately, our following visits were less than satisfactory. Second Visit: We waited over an hour to be seated, even though there were plenty of open tables. When we were finally seated, our waitress had zero personality. She didn't greet us--just silently handed us menus and walked away. We had to flag her down just to place our order. When she finally returned, we ordered our drinks and meals all at once. She never came back to check on us. We had to wave her down for drink refills and again to get our check. Third Visit: Since our first experience had been good, we decided to give it another shot and invited some friends to join us. We called ahead to make a reservation and were told they weren't accepting any until after 6:00 PM. So we asked to be put on the waiting list for after 6:00, but the lady repeated that they weren't accepting reservations until after 6:00 PM--then hung up. We called back exactly at 6:00, only to be told that reservations were already full. We decided to go anyway since our friends were visiting, and we waited an hour and a half to be seated. When we were finally seated, our waitress was initially great, but the food took forever to arrive--and half of our order was wrong. We let it slide since our friends enjoyed their meals. Fourth Visit: We successfully made a reservation and arrived on time at 6:00 PM. We were seated, but oddly, two different waitresses came to greet us. Both seemed bothered by our presence, and we noticed we kept giving the same order to both of them. When we asked what was going on, they said neither of them knew whose table we were. Then a young Asian woman in a pinstriped shirt--who I assume was a supervisor--came to our table and asked, "Who are you?" I was baffled. She asked if we had a reservation and what our name was, then told us she couldn't find us in the system. At this point, we had already been seated for 45 minutes. It was extremely embarrassing in front of our guests, but we stayed calm. She was very rude and made no effort to apologize even after realizing the mistake. Eventually, the food came out--but my dish didn't. I asked both waitresses several times, and each time I was told it was coming. By the time my plate finally arrived, everyone else at the table had finished eating. I asked to speak to a manager, but no one ever came. My party and I left shortly after. Fifth Visit: This visit was the worst of all. We called ahead and, as usual, were told no reservations were available. We decided to show up and ask to be put on the waitlist. My wife approached the front counter and was met by the same young Asian woman in the striped shirt. My wife asked if we could be added to the waitlist, and the woman rudely replied, "No, we're not accepting anyone on the waitlist tonight," then walked away. My wife, visibly upset, walked out and let me know what happened as I was unloading our kids. I went inside, and immediately a different young lady greeted me kindly. I asked for a table, and without hesitation, she seated us. The food was good, and our waitress was better than the previous ones. However, the experience at the front counter left a bad taste in our mouths. Final Thoughts: Without a doubt, the food at Panda Inn is good. But the customer service is awful. There seems to be a serious lack of communication and organization among the staff. Maybe in the future, we'll consider going back--but for now, we have no desire to spend our money at a place that treats customers so poorly. read more

I really enjoyed this restaurant. Came here to have lunch with my mother and after my bad experience from the last Chinese restaurant I went to I didn't have any expectations. Service here was ok. I believe our waiter was still asleep because he forgot to bring my mother's tea. We ordered kung pao shrimp (mild) and some fried rice. Both plates were delicious and flavorful. I'm actually looking forward to coming back and trying other things on the menu. The waitress (Marlene) was really nice and changed the quality of service when she took over our table. Our family has been coming to Panda for over 24 years on a regular basis. When it shut down for remodeling, we were sad but also excited for a fresh new restaurant experience. As soon as the reopening was announced, we walked in and made reservations right away. We had lunch there in late December with friends and were impressed by the atmosphere, but unfortunately, the food was underwhelming, and the service was terrible--long waits for drinks and even longer for food. We all chalked it up to the reopening process and the fact that many of the original staff were no longer there. Still hopeful, we made our traditional Christmas Eve reservation, something we've done for years. That night turned into 2.5 hours of pure misery. Thankfully, we had a large table with friends and kids, which made the time pass more pleasantly, but the service was hands down the worst I have ever received at any restaurant. Since reopening, they have discontinued their brunch deal, no longer offer delivery, and don't seem to answer the phone--at least, I have never once been able to reach a human, no matter the time of day, to place an order or make a reservation. Even the fortune cookies we all loved are cheap small cookies now. Still wanting to give them a fair chance, I went for lunch this past Tuesday and sat at the sushi bar with a friend. The sushi was good, though I wouldn't go there just for sushi--it's better as an appetizer alongside other dishes. The sushi chef was great, but what was frustrating was the manager constantly hovering and pressuring him to work faster. The chef remained professional, kindly explaining that he was serving customers and would get it done in a moment, but the manager was back over his shoulder within 30 seconds. It was uncomfortable and completely unprofessional. Now, the main reason I'm writing this review. I tried to place a takeout order tonight. I refused to use Yelp because I wanted to speak to someone directly. After being on hold for 28 minutes, someone finally answered and started taking my order--only for the call to drop halfway through. I called back, waited another 15 minutes, and eventually gave up. Reluctantly, I placed my order through Yelp, but I couldn't order everything I wanted because their full menu isn't available on Yelp. When I arrived to pick up my food, it was ready on time--finally, something positive. However, while I was there, I overheard multiple customers complaining about the same phone issue. I also watched as walk-in customers were told there was a two-hour wait, even though there were several empty tables inside and nearly all the outdoor tables were open. If you've made it this far, you can probably tell how deeply disappointed I am with how Panda is being run. This is not the same Panda it once was. If they want to regain their reputation, they need to take a lesson from Din Tai Fung--no matter how packed that place gets, the service is always impeccable. read more

I cannot say enough good things about the food here. Everything we ordered was by far so amazing. First off the inside of the restaurant is gorgeous and spacious since renovations were made. My husband and I came here for our anniversary dinner on a Tuesday night. It was busy, but we didn't have to wait more than 10 mins to be seated. We were waited on promptly by our waiter and our drinks were brought to us quickly. For our appetizer we ordered the calamari. This was the best calamari I've ever put into my mouth. Beyond the flavor it actually melted in my mouth it was that tender. For our main courses we ordered orange peel beef, pork chow fun and string beans. All those dishes were superb. I wanted to keep eating, everything was so good, but I was also so full! Our waiter wasn't around much so other people came and went to help out. They bag up your left overs at end of the meal so you don't have to. Although I probably won't be going back unless it's a special occasion because it's a little pricey, I will definitely go back when I get the chance. read more

They do offer outside seating but it can be noisy and cold (even though they have heaters). Okay let's talk ambiance, the new Panda Inn has a very high end hotel vibe. Chic and stylish. They do recommend a dress code but I didn't see much adherence. If you or your parents or grandparents came here when Andrew and his wife were regular fixtures, you won't see much of the original menu items. That's a shame imho. Although the food was good, I was a bit disappointed in the actual temperature of the food. Most of it was just warm. I was super excited to see the spicy eggplant but also disappointed it was not spicy at all. Lots of sushi options and the price is as expected. Overall the ambience is what will keep us coming back. Also did have a fairly decent Gin and Tonic in a pretty glass. The service was excellent but the food itself was not what I was hoping for. They have a bunch of waiters doing table side things, like salads and wraps, and even making drinks lol kinda wild to me. Food? Underwhelming. I had no expectations. This was my first time at panda inn and I assumed it would be better than Panda Express...I was wrong. I enjoyed my sushi roll I got, and the rest of the dinner went downhill. I honestly don't know what people order here, maybe I got the wrong stuff? But how do you make orange chicken taste bad and it takes 30+ minutes to get it to me? Anyway, one and done for me. However, due to my own mistake, I couldn't find my reservation when I arrived. Thankfully, a Chinese staff member at the front desk kindly assisted me, and I was seated smoothly. The reopening of Panda Inn had absolutely impeccable atmosphere, ambiance, incredible upscale food, and service! The outdoor entrance strikes a beautiful balance between rocks and trees giving a very zen-like feeling. Right before entering the front doors, you are greeted with a beautiful and massive lantern light fixture hanging from above. Once inside, there is a beautiful stained-glass art piece with multiple medallions depicting the epic story of Panda's origins. Throughout the entire restaurant, there are beautiful pieces of art on the walls and the most aesthetic light fixtures hanging from above. I loved that the menus and the wall art told the story of Andrew, his father, and their journey to opening Panda in such an artistic way. I found myself walking around the restaurant, staring and appreciating the art pieces for a long time. One other thing I loved is that acoustics in the restaurant really allow you to carry a conversation with your table without hearing the surrounding tables. The ambient music playing is at the perfect volume to where you can hear the music without it being overwhelmingly loud. The lighting was also perfectly executed as it provides the perfect balance of atmosphere and mood. The bathrooms are also very clean and had a very cool custom made mirror. Whoever designed this restaurant possesses great attention to detail, has great architectural intuition, a keen eye for aesthetic, and understands how to create ambiance by carefully leveraging the balance of lighting and sound--they deserve a FAT raise, because the design is absolutely PERFECT! The food and drinks exceeded all my expectations and were a significant upgrade to the previous menu. My favorites were the A5 Wagyu tataki (we ordered an extra 3 servings because it was so good!), the yellowtail serrano tiradito, the king salmon carpaccio, and the sushi platters. The drinks were also next level: I got the Whisky Jasmine w/ Honey and the Smoke & Pepper Margarita which were incredible! They even carried Dassai 23 sake! Service was second to none, as the staff was very accommodating, friendly, checked in with us often, and even participated in joking with our drunk table--which we loved!
