Definitely got some side eye from the other people in waiting area. This isn't our first rodeo! We've been coming since grand opening. Our server Henry was amazing. He also served us on our grand opening visit. He hasn't changed. Still super warm and welcoming. He made some great recommendations like the cab wine and spicy eggplant tofu. I'm not a fan of either. But my wife loved them. Besides they were her choices. I had the kung pao shrimp. My only gripe is that it didn't have bell peppers like Panda Express' chicken version. Sleeper hit. Better than any other "fancy" or "fusion" style Chinese in the greater LA area. More food for any trendy little Silverlake spot, and a bit more palatable than some of these "hole in the wall" spots with good food but zero atmosphere. My mom walked past a Panda Express in the mall, and wanted to stop. I said I'll do you one better and we drove here for lunch. Parking was easy, and on the walk-in we were very impressed with the ambiance and decor. Lily was our server. She's a gem! She totally made our first experience here amazing. Everything we tried was delicious but the standouts were: cucumber salad, beef and broccoli, and the lobster and shrimp wontons. Also highly recommend the crab wontons, three cup chicken, and shrimp lo mein. All the plates are shareable & we still had leftovers. The non alcoholic Mai Tai was . This place is worth the hype. We had lunch yesterday and the moment we were seated, our waiter kept asking if we were ready to order and we told her we were waiting for two people. She told us we should order right away because they were busy. We thought that was very rude and it changed the mood of everyone at our table. We planned to have a relaxing lunch but it turned out to be a stressful one. At the time of payment, they lost one of our gift cards which added more tension to the situation. If you cannot handle a busy restaurant, you shouldn't be in business. Btw, an 18% service charge sucks. Is this how you're paying for your new building?! We liked the food and really want to go back. Our first time at Panda Inn and this restaurant is by the far the perfect dining experience! My gf and I had one of the best customer service here. Our servers Will and Mila explained every dish thoroughly and recommended great dishes. The food was delicious and worth every penny. We ordered the Kung Pao chicken, Walnut Shrimp, Shrimp & Lobster wonton & Shrimp chow fun. We loved the chili oil that topped every bit with great balance of spice. We went with friends to the Pasadena Showcase house yesterday, ( which was amazing) and some we were already in Pasadena I made a reservation at the Panda Inn for 4 people at 5. We finished up early so I called to see if we could come early. I spoke to Madison who was very nice and accommodating. We arrived an hour early and were seated immediately. Our server Jacob came right over to introduce himself and took our drink order. We had a lot of questions which he answered and placed our orders. We started with lobster won tons, then moved on to orange chicken, chicken fried rice, lo mein , and a wonderful special of the day which was the short ribs. The food was great, the service exceptional, and the remodeled restaurant was beautiful. We were also very happy with the prices. The Panda Inn is a must visit restaurant if you are in the area. Had reservations and waited about 5 minutes before seated. Space is good for date night and families who want something a step above casual. Some of the tables between the bar and sushi bar were a bit too close together. Ordered: Salmon Carpaccio - Fresh. What you expect from a salmon carpaccio. I liked having Japanese options to pair with Chinese food. The tartness of the ponzu and tiny tomatoes made this a good refreshing appetizer to whet the appetite. Upside Down Noodle - Shrimp was good but unfortunately the sauce was quite gloppy. Noodle also felt a bit undercooked. Orange Chicken - also good but also as expected. Very much like the Panda Express version. Sweet with a little tang and not too much orange flavor. The table next to us ordered Walnut Shrimp which looked good. Newly reopened with a beautiful ambiance! Unfortunately we weren't too pleased with the food. The quality of the food has been changed. Phoenix chicken had barely any chicken, and all you tasted was the crunchy part which was very disappointing!! The beef and broccoli wasn't good, beef texture was off, tasted like it was boiled and the flavor was just off. The crab wontons were delicious but only came with 4 pieces. The Chinese chicken salad was good but honesty the dressing tasted like rice vinegar with sugar and some orange juice. I think they need to make some changes or they will be losing customers who enjoyed dining here before they closed. Might be back, might not give this place another try. read more

I've always been going to Panda Inn since I was a little girl. This place then closed down for Renovation and recently opened again. Let me tell you, they went all out. We were not expecting a large, Fancy looking establishment compared to what it looked like in the past. Its Stunning. Parking is in the back with plenty of space for now it's a structure versus a large parking lot. Interior is breathtaking. Staff is super friendly. We came here for my birthday and they said that all the tables are reserved but there are three other areas that have the full service: Bar, Patio, and Sushi Bar. We sat at the Sushi Bar. (They Never had this before) Food is incredibly delicious. 10/10 for all of them. Staff is very attentive and friendly. The Sushi Chefs helped explained what they have presented to Us. Loved everything about this place. In the future I will make reservations for a table. No complaints about sitting at the Sushi bar. We were inside, tthat's all I cared about. Debi the sushi chef who curated the sushi menu was AMAZING. The level of customer service, her attentiveness, pride to work with the establishment by sharing the company's story, and her sheer joy were just so infectious. Her presence and addition to the team at Panda Inn made my experience a memorable one. I had never been to any of the Panda Inns ever, so this was my first try, and we were able to walk in on opening night at 4pm for dinner service. Panda Inn has a lifelong customer in me and I can't speak more to how much Judi's energy left such a highlight to our night as we tried an array of dishes. Used to come here often before the remodel. I will say the restaurant feels much more upscale! It's a beautiful environment now. I ended up visiting for lunch and service was fairly slow. Took awhile to get drinks ordered and subsequently our meals. The food was very good though. A little pricey for the portion but good. Orange chicken was fantastic. I also tried the Mongolian beef and beef with broccoli. Mongolian beef was very tasty and both beef's were tender. I do miss their lunch special but overall I would come back. read more

We had such a great experience at Panda Inn Pasadena! We came with a group of 12 to celebrate my father-in-law's retirement, and the entire staff could not have been more kind or accommodating. From the warm welcome at the host stand to the attentive service throughout, everything was seamless. Overall this place is really good and must try! There is a parking structure in the rear, currently offering complimentary valet - just tip. Inside is very modern, sleek, and sexy. It gives you a vibe that you're in a very upscale restaurant with quality service from the hosts to the servers to the chefs and sushi chefs Definitely get the sushi! The sushi chef told us she helped create the sushi menu. Top notch! And the fish is flown in daily except on Sundays. The con: It felt as if our server didn't listen to what we had ordered, but maybe miscommunication. example: we asked for shrimp and lobster wonton but we were given shrimp egg rolls. We had asked for Arnold Palmer, and he came out saying that they didn't have an ingredient for the Shirley temple. We kept getting dishes in the beginning that weren't ours and then realized they put in the wrong orders, also I had ordered the jasmine and lychee green tea - but the server came back and said that there was a typo and that the drink is not available... even though it's on the new menu? But after that miscommunication everything went a little smoother. Food: shrimp and lobster: 10/10 - nice kick of heat, wrapper to meat ratio was great. Lots of flavor and crunch from the shrimp. You can taste the lobster. Egg drop soup: 8/10 - it tasted like homemade. Especially on a cold day this brings a comfort of home Dungeness crab roll: 11/10 - this is super delicious, must get. Don't look at the price just get it. The crab is so fresh lots of flavor, and you get so much crab it overflows. You don't get that fishy taste, perfect mix of sweet and savory and melts in your mouth. Golden snapper: 10/10. Good fish to rice ratio, lots of flavor also from the first bite you get enveloped with different flavors. Shrimp fried rice: 10/10 - large pieces of shrimp, lots of flavor and it's not dry like some places. The shrimp is nice and tender, perfectly cooked. Beef lo mein: 9/10 - a little bit on the saltier side. The beef to noodle ratio was perfect, the beef was just on the more cooked side. Black pepper beef: 10/10 - don't look at the price on this either - it's worth every penny. It melts in your mouth and you get an explosion of flavors. It's not overly peppered but it's prominent. Warm rice pudding: 9/10 - not sweet at all! And a surprise it's chocolate rice pudding. It's really good pairs well with the ice cream on top and coconut milk Eel and mascarpone roll: 10/10 - I love how they sear it in front of you. It's very good. You don't really taste the fishiness of the eel, great flavor profiles with the mascarpone and it has just the right amount of rice to go with it. read more

The newly remodeled OG Panda Inn sets a new bar - Sushi bar! But it's a lot more than that. The service was impeccable and the beautiful interior was upscale and classy. The new layout evokes a grandeur and formality that great Chinese food deserves. Speaking of which, we came to the Pasadena Panda Inn for its secret menu which consists of traditional Yangzhou dishes for the discerning Chinese taste bud. Sounds snobbish but true. This is a refined cuisine from the original chef/owner's home town located in a Chinese culinary region along the Yangtze River known as Huaiyang. Yangzhou cuisine is all about highlighting natural flavors of - light on spices and oil, heavy on cooking technique and knife skills. It's a complete departure from the current Sichuan craze in the US as well as Panda's own American Chinese menu. We started with a medley of four chilled appetizers of which my favorite was the julienned Chinese lettuce stem and the braised tofu. Our main dishes were all incredible. The thinly shredded tofu and pork slow cooked in rich broth brings back childhood memories of going to JiangZhe style restaurants in 1970s Taipei with my Shanghainese dad. The "Lion's head" meat balls with cabbage were just like Nanjing. Sautéed luffa slices with crab meat really captured the Chinese love for variety of textures. The miso sea bass, which may have been a nod to Nobu, was innovative. We also indulged in the exotic with a huge serving of braised sea cucumber$$$ which was the absolute highlight for me! Full disclosure: I have an insider friend who called the restaurant GM to reserve the secret menu experience. But I was told that they provide it often for those that request in advance. I hope the newly remodeled Panda Inn is a glimpse into future of all other Panda Inns. it's really taking American Chinese food experience to the next level. read more

Had the best date night! My bf's a local and had been coming to Panda Inn with his family for years. He was excited for the re-open and brought me here last fall after an event. At that time, he had been disappointed that a few of his favorite items had been removed from the menu and while I had enjoyed my food, he said something had been missing. This time, everything clicked into place. They actually remembered us when we checked in and we were seated promptly inside. It was a beautiful restaurant (last time, we were on the patio outside) and we had time to enjoy the details and lighting. I appreciated the fact that a loud bday was being held behind closed doors in a private side room and it didn't disturb our date. The servers were super prompt and attentive. Alexis, in particular, was really great at making a connection with us and making us feel special and appreciated. After reading a few yelp reviews, I saw that making a reservation was the way to go! I tried giving the place a call a few times, but unfortunately every time I called it was a busy tone. A party of 5, we walked in (Saturday 11/23) and were placed on the waitlist. According to the hostess the wait could be anywhere from an 1 hour to 1 1/2 hours. But hey, it's Saturday night and they looked super busy, so the wait was completely understandable. We had been stuck at #2 on the Yelp waitlist for about 30-35 minutes. And after waiting for two hours to be seated, my nephew went over to ask and by chance, he actually asked the owner. The owner than instructed some of the hostesses to please sit us down. Which we really appreciated. After being seated, the hostesses (one male and two females) walked past us several times making faces and rolling their eyes. That wasn't even the worst part, the little trio stood behind our table bad mouthing us and complaining amongst each other. All while we just sat there trying to ask someone for a menu. The hostile behavior truly ruined the night and the experience. If it were just me, I would have left, but I was with my family (on our weekly family dinner). The food and the drinks were delicious, the upgrades made to the establishment make all the difference in the vibe.
