Chow Fun
Sharon H.

Given that Herndon is a very white dominated area, it is very hard to find a good place that serves Chinese cuisine. This place offers Japanese and Chinese fast food. At first I wasn't sure what to think of the sushi but after trying it, it is pretty well-made as well as cheap. The chow fun is also pretty standard and also good for value. What makes this place is how much the staff cares about your satisfaction with the food and service. I felt quite at home because I am Cantonese and the staff are Chinese as well. While I can't say that the food is the best Chinese food I've ever had, it is a wonderful place to get food quick and have speedy friendly service. My friend really enjoyed the sushi and we were full and happy. You can tell that the staff enjoys working there and serving its community and based on how many people were coming in and out, it seems to have a strong hold on the local community. There are about three tables with about four seats each so it isn't a large establishment, but it is one that makes you feel at home and is deserving of a spot in this community.

We attempted to try this again - our third try. We were greeted by Simon - who was very pleasant and eager to show us the menu. Hint: if you guys download the app, you can accrue points accordingly - with a 5$ bonus just for signing up. Their menu is quite extensive, with a lot of the normal options, but they include an "adventurous" option. This round we tried their: - crispy beef (which we were informed was very similar to Peking Gourmets) - highly recommend - chicken wings for our appetizer - spicy intestine (from the adventurous option) I'd be willing to try their other options after today's experience!

Pros: portion is better than most Chinese carry outs. Fried beef is okay. Cons: hot and sour soup tastes like plastic.. yuck! Cashew chicken tastes like MSG fully loaded and oily. Might go back to try their general tso.. if someone does, please take pics and review!

A true hole in the wall... takeout type place with some tables to eat in.... we opted to eat in! Friendly folks who are happy to help you navigate their menu. Tonight we selected - Hot and Sour Soup - BBQ Spare Ribs - Crab Rangoon - Curry Lo Mein with shrimp - Pork with Black Bean Sauce The soup had a great kick to it which made us happy... we did add a touch more pepper for our tastes. The ribs are super sticky as they have a sweet and sour sauce on top. Messy but tasty. The crab Rangoon is served with sweet and sour sauce but I like on their own. Not something I normally get but since I had a coupon I did... tasty fried triangles stuffed so be careful when first out as they are temperature hot. On our mains... we enjoyed the combo of flavors we had decided upon... overall the pork with black bean was a touch sweet by itself but across from the curry lo Mein it worked well. Loved the addition of veggies as that brightened all the flavors. Surprise was the zucchini which I don't normally have in this dish. Overall way more food than we could eat which worked for me as I do adore leftovers.... Looks like most folks are doing take out... great addition to the strip center Ohhhhh one warning... the door is super hard to open so PULLLLLLL or wave and someone inside will help. Hubby thought a vacuum is getting created due to the vents over the super high heat of the woks. Don't let that stop you from some good food.

This place just surprise us again and again. We need a quick dinner on Friday night and the food was ready in 20 minutes and they were so good. I am a regular now!

What I enjoyed about Yo more than a place like Dumpling District (very similar in menu) was the quality and vibes of the service and atmosphere. The servers were very helpful to explain the dishes to my family members who needed some help. The food hit! The Spicy dry noodles are definitely what drew me to come here and they did not disappoint. My kids loved the pork chops. The seafood soup was loaded! The flavors were exceptional. And for as much food as we order, the price was pretty reasonable! We look forward to our next visit!

For example, the Panfried Pork Bun used to be my favorite item here but they've changed the recipe significantly. The pork filling used to be a lot larger and juicier...but now when you break open the bun, the filling is so small that half of the bun doesn't even have any meat. 80% of the bun is just dough and it's not fried well and quite greasy. Everything overall was way too greasy, including the crueller and the dry noodles were swimming in oil. I did like the texture of the noodles, but unfortunately it was overshadowed by the oiliness of the broth it was sitting in. It's really sad to see this place fall short since it opened a couple years ago. I'm hoping that they can improve their quality of food as it's really gone downhill since opening.

Mandarin was brought to my attention through a Yelp newsletter that discussed places to eat in…read moreReston. We had never heard of Mandarin before that. I looked at the reviews, which are mixed, with some who really like the food but some who were naysayers. Still, we thought it was worth a try. One thing mentioned in a review is that there are currently only two tables in the place. Thus, we were glad to discover that they work with DoorDash. We placed an order this past Sunday. We ordered two hot and sour soups, one order of chicken with snow peas and one order of spicy chicken with garlic sauce. As an aside, rice comes with each entree. We didn't know that so we had ordered one side of rice. As for the food, the portions are large. We got two meals out of them. We were pleasantly surprised by the food. The chicken with snow peas was a mild dish that came with an abundance of white meat chicken and a generous amount of snow peas. The snow peas had a nice crunch to them. The chicken with garlic sauce was mildly spicy and contained white meat chicken, sliced onions, and sliced celery. It reminded me of the same dish I had many years ago: same ingredients, same taste. My husband enjoyed his chicken dish. The hot and sour soup was okay. We've had better, but we've also had worse. If you like button mushrooms, they put a lot of them in this soup. We decided that we would order from them again.

Honestly the worst place ever. I paid for chicken and broccoli, broccoli well done(mushy). What I…read moregot was double cooked, DRY chicken and broccoli. Called them up to voice my concern, food isn't cheap right? I was given a bullshit answer "you need to come here and speak to blah blah" "I'll take your name and phone number but I'm not 100% the owner or manager will call you back" what the ??? Not sure anyone is going to call me back or wait the best one yet "I need to come in and speak to someone about the crappy food I paid for" I can't. I know this is probably one of the most decent places in Reston, but listen...I would drive anywhere and happily give my hard working money elsewhere.

Even though the Yelp reviews here were mixed, we decided to give this place a try…read more We were here around 4:30 on a Saturday. At that time, there was only one other couple dining in. The woman who was working the front of the house was very nice. She told us to pick a table and take a seat. Once we had done so, she brought us menus. The place could use some refurbishing as the tables were old and sticky. After looking over the menu, we both ordered hot and sour soup. For my entree, I chose ma po tofu while my husband chose a dish that had scallops and shrimp. To drink, I got a ginger ale. It came in a can, and it was Lidl's house brand. My husband had a beer. As the evening progressed, we noticed that they do a good takeout business. Eventually, a young man came into work, which was no doubt a good thing as the nice lady was getting very busy. As for the food, the hot and sour soup was okay. Not as much stock in it as we would have preferred. The ma po tofu was spicy, but not to the point where the spice overpowered the other flavors. It did contain a spice that we didn't recognize. My husband noticed that same spice in his entree. Please keep in mind that rice incurs an additional cost. We both chose to have brown rice. Their menu has a page that lists Thai and Malaysian dishes. Our feeling is that if we wanted one of those cuisines, we would go to a restaurant that specialized in those foods. Overall, it was an "OK" experience. We appreciated the friendly service.

This used to be one of the best places to get Mapo Tofu, but unfortunately it's gone down. Although…read morethe food was hot in temperature, it felt watered down, and it came out so quickly after our order, it makes me believe that it was either readymade or thrown together (with the ingredients not marinated). Also, the hot and sour soup was below average, too. That plus the prices have all around increased; they even charged me .50 cents for hot sauce (dining in)! With the prices up and the quality down, I'd try other places instead. Disappointing.

I got their cumin beef and their long pepper chicken. Both had the correct, and diverse flavors I enjoy from "non-American-style" Chinese joints. The heat level was also perfect; nice & spicy!! They have a decently sized menu and a few vegetarian option as well. They are transparent about what foods are gluten free, and the staff there are happy to go over those things with you and answer what questions you may have if you have certain allergies. Our favorite things to order here are the lazi chicken, and egg plant dish. We also enjoy the cauliflower. Their food comes with a personal size bowl of rice that is complimentary and does not cost extra. If you order to go, their food is done very quick, and a big majority of their orders are to go. The dining space is small, and can fit parties of 4 easily. It's not a vibey spot but if you're looking for good Chinese food, try this place out!

I'm glad Peter is done hiding and can open restaurants regularly without threat of being deported…read moreor kidnapped by Chinese spies. The food is great and the service is quick and attentive. I was here twice over the last two months. The first time, I ordered off the regular menu. The second time, I did the AYCE dim sum/tapas. Obviously, ordering a la carte, you'll get larger portions. It was all fantastic. The server was attentive and friendly. Dishes came out lightning fast. And the food itself was stellar! I'll let the photos speak for themselves. You can't go wrong here, especially if you're getting one of the AYCE specials (there's a similar one at Mama Chang's). I want to note though, three of the dishes have the same flavor profile, just different main ingredients: spicy dry fish, spicy dry cauliflower, and dry fried spicy eggplant. They use dry fried red chili and ground Szechuan peppercorn. If you like this, great! Just know it's the same seasoning across these dishes. I didn't take photos of everything, but if it's braised pork xxxx, get it! I will gladly return to this location or Mama Chang's for another AYCE adventure.

Located off of busy Centreville Road in Herndon, DMV legendary restaurateur Peter Chang opened this latest establishment in September 2024. Reservations are HIGHLY recommended for their Bottomless weekend brunch; and especially if you have a large group, as we did. There is limited parking right in front, but drive a bit further for a larger lot across the street within a 2-3 min walk. The interior is modern with the familiar high ceilings, exposed duct work, faux greenery, and Asian themed artwork. Combined with the choice of almost tropical like tables and chairs, the decor was giving off serious Malaysia vibes. When our server arrived, she explained that diners could choose items from EITHER the Chinese Tapas or Traditional Dim Sum menu, which is awesome since this allows for the culinary options of over 45+ items!!! Depending on the size of your group, I would suggest ordering 6-8 items at a time, since the plates are small (about a 1-2 person serving size). And TBH, I like this style of AYCE as opposed to the the usual long steam tables of food which just sits underneath heat lamps, and has tongs which have been handled by lots of people...yuck! And for the restaurant, it helps to limit food waste. Over the next 90 minutes (time limit for the AYCE brunch), we sampled so many items, but some of the standouts were: * Crystal Shrimp Dumpling (har gow) - wrapper wasn't too thick, and the shrimp filling was plentiful and had excellent flavor * Steamed pork and shrimp shu mai - very good version of a dim sum staple. * Beef Chow Fun - noodles could've had more "wok hei" flavor, but beef was tender and not too salty. * Soup Dumplings (Xiao Long Bao) - good amount of seasoned soup inside the wrapper with tasty pork filling * Salt and pepper shrimp - peeled shrimp was flash fried, but not rubbery. It was topped with a salty peppery crunchy topping. We had several rounds of this dish. * Black Sesame egg yolk bao - creamy and not too sweet eggy filling, inside the soft black sesame bao I will detract one star for the service, however. Im my estimation, the place is understaffed for the volume of customers. Water and tea was a bit slow to arrive (after 8 min of sitting down) and it was challening to flag down our server to order more items; hence the reason it's recommended to get multiple dishes at one time. But at the end of the meal, everyone was quite pleased and satisfied, most importantly, mom and dad enjoyed the experience. When the check arrived, our party of 10 had ordered 40 items. With tax and tip, the total came out to a tad under $400. Tbh, for the quality and variety of food, $40/person is a good deal. I can definitely envision Peter Chang's weekend bottomless brunch being a monthly occurrence for me.
