6/28/2021: Panda Express Receipt.

6/28/2021: Here's my Panda Express Receipt proving I ate here after visiting Minit Medical for my eye infection. Sadly, I was feeling exasperated, since my left eye was puffy, running like an open faucet; I needed Chinese Comfort Food STAT! Anyway, Panda Express is the only "acceptable fast food" I'll eat aside, eating Foodland's Poke and steamed rice purchased from their deli counter; in fact, not only did I eat at the Lahaina Panda Express, I ate at the Kailua-Kona, Big Island Panda Express, too. Both Panda Express Restaurants are decent restaurants but, I must give props to the Kailua-Kona Chef for making everything delicious. Still, I think the Lahaina Panda Express Chef must have a meeting with the Kailua-Kona Chef in order, matching the same sauces and same quality. Moreover, I want complimenting the Wait Staff for carefully wrapping my to-go plate; I explained I was riding the Maui Bus so, the Male Wait Staff went into the kitchen with my to-go plate, he wrapped it with Saran Wrap, and carefully placed my meal in the Panda Express paper bag. Kudos, Bravo, and Mahalo!

Better than the mainland
Baldemar R.

Why would someone visit Panda while in Hawaii you may ask? Well this location has been on point for the couple of weeks since being in Maui. Staff is always friendly and you can tell the cooks love what they do because the food is always great! Inside clean and nice and cool and just all around good place. If your craving a bit of the mainland with better prices give this location a try.

Disappointed

Foods good, service is what u expect BUT drive through is ALWAYS closed for some odd reason. Annoying when you want to swing by for a quick dinner pick up; I often just leave and get something else.

Chow Mein (half pan with included heavy duty serving utensils) - VN

This review is for their catering service which I was amazed by due to their efficiency. The west side's one and only Panda Express is located across the Lahaina Cannery and Lahaina Gateway shopping centers, in a cluster of other businesses including Walgreens, Starbucks w/ drive thru, and a yet-to-open Burger King (as KFC pulled out.) The inside is clean and spacious, with regular and high top tables, and a few outdoor seats. A drive thru is available. We were on our way to the west side to have lunch at another establishment, when my mom tells me that we had to also visit family in Lahaina because someone recently passed the day before. Thinking back to when my dad passed last year, the family we were about to visit brought over tons of food to us, which is what local families do to ease the burden and show respect. I reminded her of that gesture, which she was so glad I did, but then asked "Where are we going to get food from in Lahaina?" With such short notice, Panda Express came to mind as I know they do catering. Thing was, do they require a minimum amount of time for catering tray orders? My spouse phoned in, asked questions, and in less than 45 minutes, we left with a half pan of mushroom chicken, half pan of beef broccoli, and half pan of chow mein in hand, complete with heavy duty plastic sporks and a tong for serving, neatly stamped with "Panda Catering" on them. What a nice touch. The half pan of entrees were $40 each, and the half pan of chow mein was $18. SERVICE: Phone and in-person service was quick and friendly, something that's evident at many of the PE's I visit. OVERALL: Extremely fast and efficient catering option! So why not a 5? The food is good but not great.

For anyone thinking of coming here in the future, please do so because the food and service are just phenomenal. Upon entering the restaurant, we were surprised by how upscale the environment was. We originally sat at a table but were moved to the bar area in order to take advantage of their happy hour. The mocktails were so terrific that we wanted to try more but held ourselves back because we needed to save some room for dessert. I highly recommend the Coconut Pandan Lemonade. The bright green color scared me a little, but it was delish and packed some strong pandan flavor. We tried all of the bao wows options since they were just $5 each during happy hour. I appreciate how they all had their unique presentation and taste. But the best part of our meal was undoubtedly the Kaya Toast (hawaiian bread | coconut pandan jam | kona coffee ice cream marcona | ginger syrup ) The bread was deep fried, providing a nice texture that complemented the ice cream. And there was fricken coconut pandan jam in the middle of the bread too!! We were a bit worried about the ice cream being coffee flavor since we're not into coffee like that but it wasn't strong at all. The coconut pandan jam just tied everything together wonderfully. Huge props to the bartender for convincing us to get the kaya toast!

They offer valet parking at no charge, real treat for Lahaina. Just tip the valet. Our server was Max who was very helpful and had total command of the menu. We started with the pressed duck bao followed by the pork dumplings and garlic noodles with chicken and an order of green beans. All 4 of these were really good. The pressed duck bao being the star of the 4. In addition we had the Crispy egg noodles with all kinds of veggies. The plate as delivered was basically tasteless and the crispy noodles were all fused like two nests, one on each end with a pile of stir fried veggies in the middle. We got some hot sauce and soy sauce and mixed it in the plate to soften the noodles and give it some flavor. That made it better but not good. We informed Max of our feelings on the plate and when the bill came the manager taken the Crispy noodles off our tab, class act. Thank you. The rating is actually 3 1/2 stars but Yelp has no half stars.

SO UNDERRATED! This…read moreplace could easily be overlooked as just a Chinese takeout window, but this was the only place that warranted a REPEAT trip from us during our one-week stay in Maui. If you're looking for large portions, tasty food, and a sprawling menu from katsu to roast duck, all priced SUPER reasonably, you NEED to come here. But keep in mind there is no ambiance whatsoever, just a few tables if you choose to stay and eat. We initially ended up here on July 4th, mainly because it was one of the few places actually open on the holiday (gotta love Chinese businesses!). Our friend, who is a local, brought us here with low expectations. After days of having overpriced food from food trucks with small portions, No1 BBQ was a breath of fresh air. These are a few of the items we tried: -- Ong Choy Pork Plate: Dude. Did you know you could get super authentic Chinese ONG CHOY in Lahaina?! Because it's here at No1 BBQ and it is sooo good. Keep in mind even this very Chinese dish comes with mac salad because #HawaiiThings hahaha -- Chicken Katsu Curry Plate: My fiancé was craving this dish for days and of course they had it here, and with huge portions - even he couldn't finish it all (which is saying something) -- House Chow Mein: again with the HUGE PORTIONS Overall I'd recommend coming here when you've had your fill of poke and other more hyped places on your list, and just need a bigass plate of comfort food for really cheap. Admittedly my fiancé and I are super big on value so this place hit the spot for us clearly!

We ordered the Unagi Roll ($29), Shaking Beef Noodles ($48), and the Kanpachi Kama ($37), which wasn't actually on the menu. They had run out of the Hamachi Kama (I overheard they only get about 3-5 per day), so they offered Kanpachi instead -- and it ended up being a great choice. While the prices are definitely on the higher side, that's expected at a five-star resort in Maui. Service was excellent, the atmosphere was stunning, and the food was delicious all around. For the views, quality, and overall experience, it was absolutely worth it. I'd recommend Japengo to anyone visiting Maui!

There was a line of people trying to make reservations also so book before or earlier. We arrived a few minutes early for the reservation and our table was ready. The restaurant is much bigger than I thought. Large covered dining area plus the dining on the newly renovated and extra large deck over looking the pool. Evening time was dark inside but the table lights were bright enough at the table and added the nice ambiance. Our server was so friendly and patient and I saw that she was on top of every request and order from all the tables in her section. Amazing skills! We ordered the white lotus mocktail, a OJ, kids Mac and cheese, curry dusted calamari, Korean seafood pancakes, pork belly bao, Rainbow and Shrimp Tempura rolls, and the blackened tuna roll. The dishes and sushi rolls are generous portions and we didn't understand or were starving. We ordered too much for the table. Even the kids Mac and cheese came in this huge bowl enough for two kids. All the sushi rolls were fresh and delicious. They were topped with this wasabi tobiko. I've never had anything like that, and I wished I had more to top other dishes. The Korea seafood pancakes were really crispy on the outside and light and doughy on the inside with the seafood. The sauce on top was great. If they had called this seafood hush puppies, I would have been happy with the order. Each piece was ginormous but didn't have much green onions. I was expecting the pancakes to have a lot more green onions. The pork belly bao buns had a nice pickled salad on top. The buns were not very fluffy but serviceable. The dish was ok. The curry dusted calamari was also just ok. Calamari was fried well and crispy. The curry dust was just not the flavor we liked. And it came with these grape halves around which didn't really go well with the calamari or flavor in my opinion. I think if we ever come back, we'll stick with the sushi menu.

Although they had hours that where I listed, we missed them the first time because they put up a sign that said back @ 5. The second time we caught them, it was right before they put up the back at 5 sign, and I think that's why the sisig was super tough and chewy - we got the bottom of the pot sisig haha. Anyhow, happy to report the chicken was very tasty. The fry was light, the seasoning on point and the portion was sizable. Both were plated on top of a banana leaf, which I thought was great presentation. Overall I would say it was okay, probably not something we'd hit up again, but glad we tried it!

Every item here at a Merienda Maui food truck was delicious. The only mistake we made was not…read moreeating here sooner, since we would have returned to try more of the menu. We selected two types of tacos, the Shrimp and the Thai Beef Tacos. The shrimp tacos are served with a cabbage slaw, a ginger sesame dressing (not a strong flavor), gochujang aioli (dominant flavor that worked well with the shrimp), and some pickled red onions on top. Somewhat simple but all flavors combine well, the shrimp stands out with the aioli, and it has a tropical sense to it. The Thai Beef Tacos use a Thai marinade on the beef (sourced from Maui, though I couldn't tell the difference from regular beef in these chunks in a taco). Beyond that it's a common taco with a tomato salad (pico de gallo), jalapeño, cilantro, and mint (rather than a common diced onion pairing). The marinade infused into each piece of beef and truly carried the dish. I would have eaten it without the garnishes, though they do help fill out the taco. I also thought this was the most basic item we ordered, and would want to try out other items before repeating this. Lastly the Phili-bistek Sando with fries was the true star of the show. It reads as a cheesesteak with bell peppers and onions, and Mayo/chimichurri sauce on top. Yet I think this meat was also marinated, since I can't conceive how much umami was oozing from this burger. It is hands down the best cheesesteak I have every had...and I've been to Philadelphia. I found other recipes online that use a soy marinade to prepare the beef (tapa beef seems to be the Filipino name), and this sounds like it tasted. There was a lot of beef pieces, we shared the burger along 3 people, and I think that the circular shape made it seem larger than if it had been on a longer hoagie bread. Onion jam rather then regular onions would keep the tastebuds working, the Japanese Mayo would introduce both tangy and sweet flavors, and the chimichurri would add parsley, cilantro, and garlic notes. The burger was messy, but worth it. And the fries were extra crispy, similar to In-N-Out double fried fries but thicker. These work perfectly with just ketchup. We considered the Umami fries, which have gochijang and Mayo and Furikake at the same time, and I think all that sauce would reduce the crispiness of the fries. I would still try it, but the fries are top notch and a quick dip in ketchup is all that is needed. The Okonomiyaki Brussel sprouts also sound like an amazing Asian take on the vegetable and something to try next time.
