We looked for daycares for months and all were either too big for our taste with 20+ kids and lots of teachers or the small ones felt too informal. This place is a great size with just up to 7 kids that start from ages 1 year until they are ready for school. They have a classroom where they learn, have activities, nap, and also an outside area where they play. Irma and Ala keep it very clean, no one can come into the space (you are greeted at the outside gate due to health protocols) they are mindful of hygiene and make sure everyone is healthy, which is important when you are dealing with kiddos. Communication is key, and Irma sends constant texts and keeps you informed as the day progresses with the cutest pictures of the kids in their activities that range from painting or playdough, or even cooking (safely, of course). I have seen my son flourish in their care and loved that they have different ages as my baby has learned so much from the older kids as well. Every day he comes home with a new word or skill and is so happy and full of energy (and clean!) Their approach is very loving and caring, my son loves to go and gets excited as we head out every morning saying his little friends' names. You can expect home-style breakfast & lunch as well as snacks, they keep a schedule so you know what to expect as far as food + naps but are open for pickup any time as long as you don't interrupt activities. After a short-lived adjustment period (my daughter's pretty social, so this was only 3 days in her case), she basically never cried again. I would carry her to the front gate, and she would all but LEAP into her teacher's arms, so excited to go play inside. I think it helped that the precedent was clear: if you want to go play with your friends, teachers, and toys inside, you have to say bye to your parents. She often didn't even want to leave school when I came to pick her up; she wanted to stay and watch all the other kids get picked up by their parents. Montessori education is nuanced, intentional, and often misunderstood when viewed through a traditional lens. What troubles me most is how quickly some people run to leave damaging reviews without first asking questions, seeking clarity, or having a conversation with the school. Educators and administrators put their entire lives into the well-being of these children and the integrity of their program. Parents rely on real, lived experiences when deciding to place their children in someone else's care, and highly subjective or reactionary reviews do not serve that trust or decision-making process. I truly believe that if something feels off, the first step should be to pause, gather information, and talk with the school. If, after genuine effort and understanding, you still feel strongly, then by all means leave a review. But perspective matters. And if you take a moment to look at some of the most extreme one-star profiles, you will often notice a pattern. Volatility, absolutes, and very little middle ground. Life, and education, rarely works that way. Now onto what actually matters. Our older son graduated from Montessori House of Children and is now thriving in first grade. Our younger son is about to graduate this year. Over the years, we have watched both boys grow not just academically, but emotionally, socially, and independently. This school helped shape who they are as learners and as people. The teachers are patient, intentional, and deeply invested. The environment fosters confidence, curiosity, responsibility, and respect. These are core Montessori principles that are clearly lived, not just advertised. Our children felt safe, seen, challenged, and supported. We will always be grateful for the foundation Montessori House of Children gave our family. It is not just a school. TLDR; Second child just graduated Montessori…read more Bittersweet is the vibe. We truly wish our time here would never end, but now it has, and for the second and final time. Both our children entered this happy place at the youngest possible age, 24months, bc we wanted them to enjoy the stimulation of a preschool setting, and we are so happy we did. It goes far beyond the lessons learned in the classrooms, and the social norms they picked up in the sandbox. This is a place entrusted with not only watching your most precious possessions, but nurturing them and guiding them in their most formative years. It almost feels inadequate to relate the gravity of this responsibility and the proven outcome in a few graphs on the internet, but here we are. A combined 6+ years total, spent at this place. The first week at Monty with our first born, we weren't sure what to expect. She was able to do dropoffs well, as she had experience w that in daycare. Ofc, there were more than a few days where those turned difficult, her tears streaming, legs kicking, voice straining with violent screams at the prospect of not hanging out with Dad all day as he worked from home. But nobody is better at that particular hostage negotiation than the staff at Montessori. What seemed a task akin to charming a hissing Cobra snake was handled like a scoop of ice cream. I still remember the first Friday pick UP where my daughter had a complete meltdown at being told she was coming home for the day, and no, she couldn't come back til Monday. From an infrastructure standpoint, it's hard to beat this facility. The powerful HVAC hums along in all seasons so everyone is in comfort. The lunches are prepared hot, consistently, and lovingly everyday, which is so convenient. And most of all, their vast shaded outdoor space, separated by age, is what really sets this place apart. Children are at their best when given room to run, and the playground and toys provided are second to none. I'll miss cleaning the sand out of their shoes every day. Ultimately tho, what really makes this place what it is, is the Staff. The longtime teachers here truly love their job and the children they teach. The small class sizes ensure these wee ones have a loving experience as they navigate the bright and sometimes stormy journey of early childhood. The teachers always know how to handle any of the challenging situations that arise, and have a never ending supply of love to share. They also potty trained both our kids in a short amount of time, filling the crucial daytime gap of our schedule. Another advantage they provide you with is the highly individualized education plan that is tailored toward the daily progress of your child. Age is just a number here. When our kids were showing progress w their numbers and letters, they advanced appropriately. Both had a full kindergarten education a year early as a result. And, not to brag, but I strongly believe this to be the main reason why our oldest (now a soon to be 3rd grader) threw a perfect game on her OLSAT. Some folks say start kinder a year late, I think a year early (for the right child ofc) is the move. When LAUSD started offering free transitional kindergarten, it was natural for us to consider taking them up on the offer. But we quickly decided against it, despite the cost savings and convenience of a single dropoff in the morning. We didn't want our 4 year old getting bullied in the bathrooms by 5th graders, nor being immersed in a classroom of 30 some odd kids either. At this tender age, the loving, hugging nature of Monty is something we could never quantify, and is by far a superior environment. Really, it's hard to overstate the profound feeling of gratitude we have for this School. Like, it's not simply a Thai food restaurant you frequent bc you can't think of what to make for dinner. It's a place where children will receive an upbringing that never misses, that they enjoy and truly delivers at every opportunity.

The owner of the other really awesome daycare recommended that I send my daughter to iPlay iLearn for 6 months until my 6 month old would be old enough to attend there. She told me that she even sent her own child to iPlay iLearn. At first, I was a little apprehensive because I had originally considered institutional daycares like Bright Horizons (my work is next to it in Santa Monica, although I live in the valley). I saw all the bells and whistles at BH and thought I NEEDED all the techy amenities. The apps, access to cameras, long weekly reports, etc. But as I was in a sort of bind due to an unrelated situation, I decided to give the whole home daycare thing a try. BEST. DECISION. EVER! At least.... with iPlay iLearn. My daughter attended iPiL from the age of 6 months to a couple of months over the age of 2 years. As indicated above, I had originally only planned on sending my daughter here for 6 months until she turned 1 so that she could then change to the other school. I even submitted a non-refundable deposit at the other place. But after 6 months with Gohar at iPiL, I knew that there was no way I was going to leave. Gohar and her team at iPlay iLearn (Naira, Kristine, Liana) have such dedication to the children. They are authentic, genuine, and warm. My experience when interviewing other daycares was that the "main" teach (typically the business owner) would be great, but you could see a clear gap between the knowledge and care that they bring to the table and the staff that work for them. But not at iPiL. All the staff are so attentive and the children love and feel so safe and secure there. My daughter's dad and I divorced when she just turned 1 years of age and it was very traumatic for her. During this tough time, Gohar and her team were the one very stable and consistent thing in her life and honestly, we could not made it through the life change as well as we did if it weren't for Gohar. She and her team were told what was going on and they provided extra care, love, support for not only my daughter but for me as well. They went over and beyond what would be expected of them and helped my daughter get through this hard time. I can never ever express enough gratitude for their genuine love and care for my daughter. Ok, back to not so somber stuff! A detail that I love about iPiL is that they serve a lot of Armenien food for lunch! My daughter is Korean-American and I love that she loves Armenien food now. Whether it's borscht or other dishes (sorry Gohar, I totally forget the names), my daughter is hooked! I would say that lunches are Armenien and snacks are generally American. I love that Gohar is committed to keeping up to date with the latest in early age education and she is also closely connected to, gosh I forget the school but I think it's CSUN. She also takes on a student per year as an apprentice/intern, which I love. She is ambitious and honestly intrinsically motivated to be the best teacher she can be for the kids. My daughter no longer attends iPiL for an unrelated reason and it was so hard when we had to leave. Even now, over 4 months later, my daughter casually mentions the name of the entire staff and her friends at iPiL in passing. I still stop by iPiL to drop off coffee to the entire team (I used to buy them coffee every week) every month or so just to catch up and to fill my cup with their warmth and care. Gah, I just love Gohar and her team so much. I have referred her daycare to any and everyone I know who live in the area. If you're open to a home daycare, then this is it. Most days it took me over 10 minutes to get him to leave because he was always having so much fun. It was very clear to us that our son loved being there and that Mangala loved him like family. We KNEW he was safe and loved and well cared for and challenged every day. Our family recently left Los Angeles, which is the only reason why we stopped sending our son to First Steps, and leaving this daycare was one of the most difficult things about moving.
