First time in, we ordered a fish ceviche and shrimp cocktail. The fish ceviche was extremely fresh, tasty, and a very good portion. The shrimp cocktail was good also. When I went to check out, I was helped by the owner who told me they had just been open two weeks and if there was anything I'd recommend for improvement. I gave suggestions for more aguas frescas on the menu and he told me they were working on adding lemonade. Overall, we left with such a good experience that we were excited to return. Unfortunately, our second visit was a complete disaster.
We arrived on a Saturday afternoon and it wasn't too busy which was nice. We ordered one lemonade and one Jamaica water. The waitress brought out the wrong drinks to start. We never got any napkins or silverware until the food came out, which made for very messy eating of chips with salsa. Quite puzzling why we never got napkins or silverware with the drinks.
Coming from our prior (good) experience here, we again ordered the fish ceviche and the shrimp cocktail. Unfortunately, I think the original chef must have quit or the owner's absence is sorely felt because the food we got was DISGUSTING. The fish ceviche was not fresh, the fish tasted old, it lacked any seasoning and it clearly was not cooked with lemon as it tasted like WATER not LEMON. The shrimp cocktail was also very poorly done, almost like the person cooking these had no taste buds.
I returned the fish ceviche and explained I wanted a few minutes to look at the menu to order something else. The staff was very nice and tried to apologize and offer alternatives, but their menu is 99% shrimp based. I was shocked to see EVERY SINGLE SUSHI COMES WITH SHRIMP. Where is the variety? Where is the salmon? Where is the tuna? Why does everything have to come with shrimp????? I explained to the staff that I came specifically for the fish ceviche and wanted a fish dish, not shrimp and not beef. I explained how different the dish tasted from the first time we were there, so hopefully they either bring back the old cook or the owner takes a turn to watch how their chef is making dishes. The quality has dropped from 10 stars to 1 quite quickly. I am only giving this place the courtesy of 2 stars in the review because our first time was so good. But, old fish should not be served. Also the Jamaica water tasted completely watered down and did not taste like Jamaica at all.
Also, they had wrestling on TV this time we went and the volume was insanely loud. It was almost impossible to carry on a conversation. That needs to be fixed.
We won't be returning and hope for their sake they follow these suggestions.
