Green space that's a big part of the community. It has a pretty impressive playground. Palmer Square is kind of confusing because this isn't in a neighborhood of its own name, but rather it's in the neighborhood of Logan Square. Has a lot of room inside. This has been a long time favorite of bicyclists and others. Basically this is an open space in a residential area. It's surrounded by a street of the same name, located between Humboldt and Kedzie Boulevards. The most recent improvements include the addition of a playground based on The Velveteen Rabbit. An interesting history. It's named after John McAuley Palmer, who was an attorney, Civil War general, Illinois governor, and Senator. Created as a result of making more roads. The park was developed in the 1870s as a part of the city's boulevard system. In the early 1900s there was a bicycle craze. Many bicyclists liked to use the streets surrounding the park as a track. It was used in races and parades. This area was even the home of Ignaz Schwinn, the founder of the still famous bicycle company, who lived here at this time. Chill place for being surrounded by streets to be honest. It's got a pretty good playground, and there's even a totem pole. This is located close to the California Blue Line station, or you could come the classic way on bicycle or whatever. read more

Great park I visited for a live jazz band. This park is awesome for live music as the trees are vast and provide lots of shade. My only complaint was there was a lack of trash bins and no bathrooms to speak of. read more

I drive passed Palmer Square on a regular basis when I leave work, and have contemplated a few times to do a run here, after I read a couple reviews. There were a select few that mentioned "run" in their reviews, so I had to see it firsthand once I got that urge to come out to Palmer Square. However, when that time came to run here, I passed on it because its paths are so narrow plus congested with walkers. As a seasoned runner, I would say that it's designed more for that casual runner or walker because there is just not enough room to get into your groove when there are others on it. So, if you're a seasoned runner run there early when its less congested or do yourself a favor and just head on down to the 606 - Bloomingdale trail or either Humboldt Park and just run there versus a run at Palmer Square because both are less congested. I cannot bash Palmer Square because it is beneficial to many others, plus it's shaded! As for other activities it's perfect for small cookouts, picnics, and a place where you could take your kids and dogs to due to it having mini play areas for both. One of my favorite things to do is walk from my apartment to Palmer Square, it helps that it is a 10 min walk. In warmer months there is nothing better than sitting in the park and appreciating the beautiful surroundings. It has a gravel path that circles the entire park which is perfect for jogging/walking if you are trying to keep that booty poppin'. They have an adorable playground area for kids, and adults who don't want to grow up. Spring can't come quick enough. read more

I consider myself lucky to live in a Greystone right on Palmer square, because it's like having a great 9-acre Park as my front yard. I love me a no-frills Park where one can look up from their phone for a few minutes and admire nature. It's a great park to run a few laps and walk my dog as there are plenty of garbage cans along the path. It's also very well maintained by the city. One of my favorite things to do is sit on the wooden tree swing on a nice day and unwind. Only docking a star because I wish the running path was made from track or concrete - prepare for very muddy shoes when it rains. read more

This is my favorite park to run in. There's a nice path that winds through the park that's mostly shaded. So when the path is well maintained, it makes for a nice and easy loop. My one complaint is the city or neighborhood association needs to better maintain this park. The drainage in the park is atrocious so whenever it rains, the water spills into the path. Last summer, they dumped a bunch of gravel/wood chips/dirt and never spread it. They just dumped it in piles so there were mounds to run around for weeks. I do love this park though. It's small but it's lovely. read more

The park is pretty small and simple. It's nice for what it is, but isn't one of the most stunning parks I've been to. If you are looking for a quick workout, the circumference of the park is about half a mile. Running around it a few times can equal a mile or two. It seems like a nice place to have a picnic or relax on a nice day. I've seen a few people walk their dogs or relax in the park. There is a small playground for young children. It's a simple, easy spot if you're looking for something in the area. read more

I really love that this park is so close to my apartment. I go there very frequently to walk around the track, which is approximately a half mile. On nice weekend days the track can get a little busy, but on weekdays there's very little other traffic. While I most frequently use the part to walk around, it is also a fantastic place to just hang out outside. There is tons of grass space and you can choose to be under a tree or out in the open. I've gone here with a group of friends to have a picnic and spend time there for a few hours. Parking is usually very easy on either side of the park--no meters or permit parking. If you're going to picnic, I recommend going to the bathroom beforehand. There is a port-a-potty, but from the outside smell, I'm not sure it's a place you really want to have to go into. There are plenty of close by restaurants/bars. It is a dog friendly park and dogs are typically on leashes. Because it's usually pretty quiet on weekdays, I also (when the weather is warmer) love to go here and lay in the sun and read a book. There's a little playground-ish area for kids--a couple very small slides and places to do a little climbing. It would not be enough of a play area for big kids, but it's perfect for younger children. read more

This is a review for the new Palmer Square playground that was just opened today in Palmer Square, not the entire park itself, which is great. After numerous phone calls and emails to the alderman from ourselves not to mention the countless other who live around the square and were looking forward to the playground finally opening...the fence came down. 2 years?...how much money spent? Please. What a disappointment. Not even a swing set or slide bigger for any kid over 2. I thought there might be a water fountain or something of the like. Nothing. Our son is 1 years old, so it's nice for him now, but honestly, in a few months he will be bored as will we. I realize it wasn't intended to be a full playground like Wicker Park or the one on Kimball or Fullerton and California. But seriously, what were we waiting for all this time. I realize there are a lot of people opposed to the idea of a playground going into this park, and I understand, I thought it was a great space before. But honestly, in the years I've lived in this neighborhood, rarely have I seen many people making use of all of the space in the park, aside from homeless people sleeping on the benches and people running their dogs. I guess it's better than nothing, so it gets 2 stars. If it was still a construction site, then it would get 1. 2 YEARS?! read more

I live a couple of blocks away and I walk my dog around Palmer Square every night. She loves it and I love it. It sucked when they had the fences up and were "working" on the space for... what, over a year? But they finally took that crap down. For a rather small park, the running trail and playground are pretty nice. Well, I'm usually walking around the perimeter so I can't say I've hung out at the playground (also I don't have a child and prefer to *not* look like a pedophile, baby-snatcher or, later at night, a pothead teenager). During the fall, the park is beautiful. It's a really nice place to have a block and a half away, now that I'm all grown up and I do things like walk dogs and run. read more

A playground is being built in the middle of Palmer Square. The part of the square is currently fenced off until the unveiling. So much for 'unadulterated'. My dog loves running around the park in the winter. And in the spring. And in the summer. And of course, in the fall. Palmer Square is one of the two parks we frequent in Logan Square. When my little guy was just starting to walk, we came here as our primary park. The kids equipment isn't much, but it's enough for a infant/toddler with a set of slides, a bouncy platform, and other play equipment. Our son had his first slide rides here last summer among other kids his age. Once the weather warms up, we're here. Our son is almost two and loves this park. He rides the slides and runs up the hills. Since there are so many walkers and dogs, he interacts with a lot of people all the time. He's great with neighborhood dogs and dog owners as they enjoy the park. For us, this park is great. There's not a lot of play equipment, but enough to burn off some energy before dinner or bedtime. It's a great park for kids to bring toys to as well with open paths and pavement to play with chalk and bubbles on. Palmer Square's one of our favorite toddler hangouts. read more

So I was taking my morning walk around Logan Square, and stopped to reflect a moment on how just plain beautiful Palmer Square Park is. The Square itself is lined with the mansions and elegant apartment buildings that define the character of the boulevards, but its the Park that really makes this tiny pocket of Chicago special. Palmer Square Park is two blocks of pure, old-fashioned, undeveloped park. Almost every day, you can find people using the park in what I guess I would call an "organic" way: running laps around it, playing with their dogs, kids running around. And yes, you can find homeless people spending the night there as well. It is still Chicago, after all. In spring, summer, and fall I like to pick up some tasties from Provenance and spend the afternoon here with a good book. There are plans to develop the park with a playground, dog run and running trail. I HATE this idea. Why can't people just let nature be nature, and land be land? Why do we have to designate areas for people to do what they are already doing in the park? That's madness! Madness I say! read more

Palmer Square is a nice park between Logan Square and Humboldt Park. This area is similar to the two other places I listed because it has the main traffic way of Sacramento, that turns into Humboldt Boulevard, that runs through its center with lanes for local traffic on the east and west sides. The area between the major street and side street is complete with grass and many trees. It is a great area for a walk or even a run as they have a path complete for dog walkers or exercisers. Marked by a beautiful church on the Northeast end this area is great for a nice stroll, a game of badminton or any other summer outdoor activity. read more

I love running the track here with my dog on a sunny afternoon. It is just under half a mile for one lap so easy to keep track of the distance. There are always interesting things going on - dogs playing, people hula hooping or doing tai chi or yoga, and best of all the slackliners on Saturday afternoons. read more

Palmer Square is a cute little sister next to the other pieces of the Boulevard system it connects. I say this, because Logan, Kedzie, or Humboldt Boulevards all seem so much more grown up and busy than Palmer does. It makes the park much more quieter than these areas, a perfect place to relax with a book without nearly as much traffic. There's a small running path that you can run a circle around. I would estimate it's about a quarter mile. I don't have kids, but I'd imagine it would be a great place to go with some small hills and playground toys, but nothing too massive. Overall, a cute quiet little park! read more

This park is right down the street from where we live. We are always walking around the park or through the park. We used to run and exercise in the park but that faded away. I wish they had more fests or get togethers in the park so we could enjoy it more but I do think it is in a perfect location. They have plenty of things for the kids to play on. God please let them wrap up the 'park improvement' project in time for winter and Cross Country skiing season!! Several people use it as such and there are not many options for this in the city..... Palmer Square is a few blocks away from where I live. I never really appreciated it until I got my dog Duncan. I walk/run with him there every day and it's really a great park! It was under "construction" for a while. When it was done, they added a very small playground and a new path. The playground is always frequented by kids and grassy areas with picnics and dogs playing. The path is always under trees and nice and cool on those hot days. It's quiet and peaceful. I love seeing people using the park area and families in the playground. I have met many nice dogs here and love that's is dog friendly. It's a great place to walk/run and enjoy the outdoors. Plus, it's spitting distance from Miko's. Walk there, grab your Italian ice and then walk around the park to walk off those extra calories. read more

this is probably the strangest chicago summer fest of them all! costumes, custom bikes, clowns, strange music, and nothing but fat tire. the circus (which i might as well be called) rolls into palmer park on buses running on garbage, bikes stacked to the powerlines, clowns playing tubas... you can't miss it really. its only a day, and then its gone, but its amazing all day long. maultiple stages and unique acts, it really can't be missed. and they serve a selection of my favorite beer... so really i can't wait! read more

Used to live across the street on Palmer Blvd in a graystone. Amazing place to ride your bike, jog, walk the pups and play catch. Before the fences went up, you could sit on a bench at either end of the park and just admire the open green space stretching for two city blocks. The jewel of the Emerald Necklace. This beautiful bit of green space does have it's flaws--the grass gets worn from overuse and too much dog activity in too small a space--but it's a tiny bit of wild nature in a city that has so little of it. I love it at night--dark, lots of trees, not as manicured as Humboldt Park. People are mostly friendly. The surrounding street is a bit of a speedway. read more

i love this little park, although i didn't frequent it much before i started jogging and before bringing my nephew. it is very clean and quiet, and the palmer blvd homes surrounding it are gorgeous to top it off. nice for a (short) jog. i love the bunny park (the playground), and although catered for smaller children, i see many kids up to age 10+ playing and riding their bikes around. since when do we need an entire jungle gym to get out and active and have fun? read more
