I had LASIK done there yesterday. I'm a pretty special case (my mother would tell you the same, but in a general sense) in that I have one good eye, the other was damaged in an accident years ago. The run up to the procedure was great, they did an initial screening, followed by a consultation with Dr Palmer. They really went over the risks vs the rewards (well, I was going over the rewards) so that I had all the information I needed to proceed. Obviously I went through with it and I'm super happy. I just left my post-op appointment. After 37 years in glasses or contacts I sit here typing the day after with a little cloudiness and 20/25 vision (20/200 before). The cloudiness will go away and my vision should improve even more in the coming days. Amazing. I'm not done there, I have another appointment early next week for another follow up. I feel pretty well taken care of and confident that I'm good hands. Can't wait for the coming days to SEE even more improvement. read more

Dr. Palmer did my Lasik surgery in 2004, and Dr. Amanda Matthews did my cataract surgery in 2021. I was expecting to "SEE" a huge improvement after cataract surgery, but did not. Dr. Matthews said I also had to have the "Yag" procedure done on both eyes afterwards. I did not have confidence in the prescription Palmer Eye Center gave me , and went for a second opinion for an eyeglass prescription. The Optometrist I went to said the prescription I was given at Palmer Eye Center was garbage. I called the office manager and she apologized, and gave me a nice politically correct response, and explained the person who did my "refraction" had received 8 additional hours of training (i AM NOT IMPRESSED), and they were working with her. The office manager offered to correct the mistake. I declined her offer to come back for another "refraction", and suspect she had received similar complaints. I am glad I had not ordered new glasses based on that incorrect prescription. After cateract surgery, the Yag procedures, and paying at least $3000. out of pocket that was not covered by insurance, they want to charge you $35. for an eyeglass prescription that is INCORRECT.(note: I balked at the unexpected $35. charge, and they backed down.) I liked Dr. Matthews, but will probably not go back. My expected out-of-pocket expenses for the cataract surgery were explained by a very nice woman, but were at least $300. more than she had said, and of course the Anesthesiologist charges were not included either. I will wait and have my eyes checked by a different Ophthalmologist this year, because I am still not seeing well. read more

Dr Matthews has to be the best qualified ophthalmologist is Tallahassee. She is efficient, patient and kind. Friendly staff too.

I hate leaving this review because the services that I received were wonderful. The frustrating part was their lack of honesty on the cost of cataract surgery. We have a very high deductible and they knew that so they kept telling me the cost to make sure I was able to pay. The total cost they quoted me was between $3500-$4000. They never mentioned to me about the surgery center cost which is located in the same building. The surgery center cost was over $5000. I am still receiving bills so I'm not sure what the total cost of the procedure is going to cost. I feel like they should be more open about the cost. read more

My 14 year old daughter had a stye removed mid-April. At the time of the procedure, Dr. Matthews said, " if it turns out not as flat as you would like, come back, we will take care of it for you." After her eye was given time to heal, about 2 weeks later I called to schedule another appointment - the stye went down slightly but NEVER went flat or even close to flat. It took a WHOLE 5 MONTHS to get back on Dr. Matthews schedule. Today, 9/21/21, at the appointment we had to wait 5 months for, Misty, the Office Manager, says we need to pay full price for the procedure again. Misty tried to manipulate the situation to seem as if this was a whole new stye that grew BACK. Ummm, NO MA'AM, it was the same stye that Dr. Matthew failed to remove all of - which the doctor HERSELF SAID that may be a possibility and to come back if so. Even the other receptionist said, "you have a 10-day window..." EXACTLY, which is why I called within that timeframe, THEN WAITED PATIENTLY FOR 5 MONTHS!!!!! Needless to say, we left without getting the procedure done. Misty and whomever in cahoots with ripping off insurance companies need to know that in the end, the patients suffer! TRY CARING ABOUT YOUR PATIENTS vs. SHADY OVERBILLING PRACTICES! I'm considering filing a formal complaint... 5 months JUST to be put on the schedule and THIS is the outcome?? So, get here early for my appointment. That time passes and half an hour later I get sent to the back. Tech was very friendly, but then get shuffled off to another waiting area. Another 40 minutes later....I am still waiting. I drove 1.5 hours for this? It will be a long ride back. Thank god we only have to come here once a year! Poor scheduling/management. My parents and I have been patients of Dr. Palmer for many, many years and now of Dr. Matthews as well. Over the holidays my elderly mother had a sever problem with one of her eyes and both Dr. Matthews and Dr. Palmer attended her several times during their vacation time and while the office was closed... something quite remarkable in itself and for which they have my utmost gratitude. Over the years the level of care, concern and professionalism demonstrated by both Drs. is unsurpassed and the attention and friendliness of their staff is reassuring and welcoming. The wait time is normal and even if at times it might be somewhat longer knowing one is in the best of hands makes it worth it. We would not trust our eyes to any other! read more

2 years ago I was sent from Florida State University to this center because I needed them to check my eyes. The service was ok, I was not too pleased with it. I payed my part, as I was covered with FSU insurance. Two years after this, I moved out of Florida and received a check for almost $300 for that visit. I was covered by FSU health until 2016 and they are now saying that I was not covered at that time, which is simply not true, and they should have checked with the insurance. And after 2 years! What are they trying to do? I have so far received several checks reminding me of this fee, and they are not answering my calls or messages. read more

I had an inperson appt and as always, I had a very good experience. Dr. Matthews is my doctor. She has purchased the practice from Dr. Palmer. She is stellar. She is detailed and kind and very very attentive to the patient, me. I have had lens surgery from Dr. Matthews, mono lenses. I can see so well. One long and one short vision. The after care has been so great too. She is a wonderful, skilled physician. I recommend this practice highly. She has been my doctor since the past 2 years since surgery. All the staffers are friendly and knowledgeable. I love this practice because as you see the leader, Dr. Matthews, as are the staff, kind, friendly and there for me. Get an appt. cuz they are busy, As for the waiting time that someone mentioned, well, if I were having an emergency then I would want to have the doctor's time and attention. I won't be back to Palmer eye clinic! I was caught in an accident and was late to my appointment. They said they couldn't see me today because the Doctor had a meeting-funny thing is the last time I went I waited 30 minutes past my appointment time because they were running late! I would suggest not going to this practice. I have had a horrible experience and almost three-four years later I still have issues with my right eye. I have tried another ophthalmologist in the area, and I then find out he is good friends with Dr. Palmer. I am now in search of another ophthalmologist, but I am afraid to go anywhere in town because I don't know if they all cover each others mistakes. I had 4 surgeries in a months time. I read online that the wait time before surgeries should be longer than this. One of the eyes Dr. Palmer did had the lens put in incorrectly. I told them repeatedly before I left that I was seeing worse than before the surgery. They kept me there about 30-45 minutes and nothing cleared, they said it would be fine the next day, well you can figure out he had to fix this eye again. The right eye that now has a white shadow and several black spots makes it difficult for me to work. I have spoken to a local attorney about this, and I am looking for a good ophthalmologist in town without any association to Dr. Palmer. The biggest issue is I was not told that if I got regular lenses that I would never be able to see close-up again. I have to wear special head gear with 10x magnification to see anything that is small. I work for a software company, so I am unable to do as much work due to the eye strain, black floaters and white stripe like view. I also have issues moving my eye from left-to-right. I see a gray circle at times when I move my eye from left-to-right. It is not okay as Dr. Palmer has said, along with his friend doctor. I can say the office is state of the art and very nice. I can also say that the front desk is rude, and the wait time is bad. Dr. Palmer is very nice, but I was not explained all the details. As I was setting up for the surgery I was told, to sign papers, I couldn't see real well and I followed orders. I still have no idea what those forms said. My insurance company was charged was billed $29,000 and then almost a year later I was given a bill of 4K+, however the bill to the insurance company was only 3K+. They only filed the 4K+ claim after I requested them to. The insurance company denied the 3K, and then billed me 4K I am now in collections because of this. I am running out of time for legal action, so if you are reading this, have had a similar problem, please comment. I was not turned into collections until my legal action rights are came to closely expiring. I cannot get my records from them, and I have to check my insurance forms to get the exact dates. My first action will be to contact the medical board and see what my options are. I will then discuss this with my attorney again. She said that the laws have been toughened for malpractice of cataract surgery. PLEASE-PLEASE read every paper you sign, don't let them just pass them to you very quickly and just say sigh here. I should have known better, but I trust doctors. I have seen nearly 100 doctors, and never have had an issue. PLEASE ask a lot of questions, especially about the issues you will have if you only get one sight correction. If you can't see the papers, ask that they be read out loud to you. I am not elderly, the cataracts were from steroids. This comment is in mal intent, it is a warning and everything stated is a true. read more

First and last time going to Palmer Eye Center. I was there for an hour and 15 mins and saw Dr. Matthews for about 5 mins. She looked at my dilated pupils and said I would be a good candidate for Lasik surgery, which I'm not interested in doing. The very young and unprofessional technician did my entire exam! They do not help you get new glasses and wouldn't even tell me if my insurance covers glasses. I do not recommend this business to anyone. Not sure how they're getting away with the tech performing the exam or if that's even legal? I will be finding another eye doctor where the optometrist will perform the exam. read more
