A hotel in Mérida owned by an Irish expat and designed to look like a French baroque castle? Porque no!
Was really using this Mérida stop as a rest between Mexico City and Chichen Itza. Holy wow did it blow us away!
From the street it looked like the taxi dropped us in the wrong place. Exceedingly modest from the front, and the street was a little funky. Upon opening the door, we got a first glimpse of the front salon, outside restaurant and the baroque pool enclosure, que sorpresa!!
* Decor - five stars - unique and creative.
* Room was spacious with high ceilings, Victorian antiques and a twin day bed in addition to our king bed. The bathroom was a little cozy but functional.
* Breakfast in the outdoor restaurant was free and tasty. We grew to love huevos motelenos in the morning.
(NOTE: The hotel staff keeps free, nontoxic citronella mosquito repellent on a table by the front door. We found it helpful. )
* Our room had a private- ish pool right outside, away from the other rooms and public areas. Magical.
* The bar, and bartender, were a nice surprise in the evenings.
* Made use of the massage room, got couples massage, HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
* Grew to love the neighborhood, the friendly people, proximity to restaurants and the town square. Did so much walking and exploring. read more
