Museo del Palacio is the new name for this stately building located in the Zocalo. Every year there is an altar and a giant sand tapestry set up here in this building formerly referred to as Palacio de Gobierno or the State Government Palace. There is usually a contest for the best altar and, therefore, many smaller Day of the Dead altars are set up around the main floor of this former palace during the competition. So, a visit here is a must during Day of the Dead celebrations in Oaxaca. Also, many temporary art exhibits are held here throughout the year. Have fun! read more
