It underwent several metamorphosis - munitions store during WW1, occasional trade exhibitions, factory storage - until in the 1990's it was taken over by the District Council and Town Council and refurbished completely to turn it into a multi-purpose community hall. You will find local Farmer's Markets on a weekly basis (great quality fresh produce) during the days, and the evenings it's the setting for concerts of all kinds, from the punk/funk/rock to new bands and - well, everything you can imagine. There's a cafe and bar inside the premises, and the car park is right in front of it, so it ticks all the boxes! Check out the website for what's on, and go enjoy!

This would be no good for the older kids. But for toddlers and smaller children it would be perfect. There are two sections, each section has tables for the adults to sit and relax. There is a security gate to stop any children from escaping. One one side is a little climbing area, a see-saw, a ball-shooter.. and on the other side is a big area for babies and toddlers to play in, plus a big ball-pit with a slide and other fun things. You pay for the time you spend there and it's usually calculated by the half-hour. So if you decided to pop in there for an hour, it will work out cheaper than if you went to Kidz About or Jolly Rogers for an hour. Café facilities are good, they don't do hot food although there is a bigger café in the building that does do hot food. Staff are always lovely and friendly.

The problem lies with their online reservation system that, for now, is devious, so PAY ATTENTION: if you want the Green Park Brasserie you MUST reserve "indoor seating"; if you want Bath Pizza you have to reserve upstairs. First, the house itself has nothing to do with Jane Austen as she lived up the street as well as across the street. There's actually very little authentic items that belonged to Jane in the museum. We were welcomed immediately upon entering and never felt any sense of pressure to hurry through the gallery. If anything, we could have (and maybe should have) stayed a bit longer to take it all in - there's plenty of seats in which to sit back and do so. But I appreciate all that we saw, including (but not limited to): 'The Bride of Death' painting by Thomas Jones Barker (I was taken with all the symbolism within what is essentially one story frame), Edwin Whitney-Smith's 'The Scarab' bronze statue, and - much to my surprise - the white cabinets against the walls of the room that are positively filled with pullout drawers housing watercolors and pencil sketches of Bath, Somerset, and England (one in particular caught my eye: it was the view looking down on Bath from Alexandra Park, and I had literally just come from the same physical vantage point [and couldn't help but compare my modern day phone photo to the piece of art from the 1800's). I am sure that if we were locals that we'd attend any number of the amazing community focused events they host throughout the year as well. Here's the thing: if art is not your thing... don't come. However: if you love art, even if you just kinda like art, if history and/or art are at all fascinating to you, if you only really like one artist and they carry one of their pieces, you should absolutely come here. It's not an all day affair (the gallery is actually quite small), so give yourself an hour or two and enjoy just another corner of how incredible the city of Bath really is.
