I originally became aware of these folks on Facebook and have since attended one of their classes…read more I signed up online and got everything communicated to me nicely via messenger. At Southern Grace Creations they offer art classes dealing with glass and resin, door hangers, canvases, and more. Classes for adults and children, beginner to advanced, and they supply everything you will need to make your art piece: (canvas, window or picture frame, paint, glass, shells, sand, glitter, resin, etc.) Some people choose to bring trinkets like a special sea shell, sand dollars, starfish, small beach wood, necklace, broach, etc. (you can also bring other materials, including canvas and art supplies if you desire) I showed up and was welcomed by Bobbie, the instructor, and since this was my very first time working with resin she was very patient, explained everything about the process, and guided me along nicely. You can choose from either doing your project on canvas or on a framed glass, I chose canvas. (other options available) You pick the size of canvas or size and style of frame and you're ready to go. There's a big variety of crushed glass, shells, and all sorts of materials to put on your project and you can paint it first or work with a blank slate. (stencils are also available if you need them) I chose to draw and paint a basic sky, water, and beach background then cover it in different colors of glass with some shells. After your project is complete Bonnie instructs you how to properly cover it in resin, it's pretty cool. Since it takes 3+ days to cure or set you will need to come back to pick it up, and that's it. Aprons and plenty of space is provided. Bottom line: It's especially easy with Bobbie's patient direction and you can make something that's just fun or make a family heirloom. HELLO, My name is…read moreDoyle, I am with www.doylepottery.com which is another art teaching place in mobile al I teach mainly ceramics and have plans to expand to multiple locations. I welcome any students in ceramic art. One of the teachers from coastal makers took my class and made one of the nicest beginner ceramics sculptures I've seen in many many years. Recently they began expanding to ceramics also using my kiln at times. I recommend if you enjoyed ceramics at coastal, to also visit Doyle Pottery for advanced ceramics classes. I recommend going to coastal makers, the staff there is very talented. They offer a very broad variety of art classes which is awesome for the growing demand in the area and for the whole art community. Thanks Coastal Makers for creating fun art activities to broaden understanding of what goes into all that art for sale in the galleries around the world, and all the cool ARTWORK! that gets produced by all the staff and students! A real art community! Thanks! WE NEED MORE! This demand is set to increase more and more as robots take over lots of jobs. Kari, in the next fifteen years, we have to somehow teach 20,000 people a month and even more once those have gotten involved, that what's missing today in schools and centers from a full research evaluation with robots. We should see Art some day perform like energy itself due to present robot/computer technology in development like a cell phone never having been made yet but now in process. Doyle is seeking any help out there that would especially like to work before and afterschool programs, and have availability those times. There is vast expansion possibility due to extreme school demand for ceramics, mostly from its costly infrastructure. What's the greatest part for teachers in town is there's many many positions possible today including their assistants! And a market for teaching unmet demand value at... 45 million a year Kari. If you loved Kari's class and made great stuff, call Doyle to help him tackle the huge current demand at schools primarily, if you are available and enjoy the Arts and creating. What you get from Art activity at Coastal is not just Art and fun, you get an education and learn to develop your brain with, "creativity" the best part of any brain which, happily, no robot can take away. Thank you all for enjoying and taking interest in the ARTS! Happy Art making! Doyle

I previously posted a review about this wonderful gallery but this one is all about hands on art…read moreinstruction. During an open house last year at this lovely art gallery I saw a small notice on the wall next to a gorgeous painting of birds of paradise that simply said "take art lessons with this artist". I have never picked up an artist brush and haven't attempted sketching or drawing since my grammar school art classes so while I was intrigued I wasn't sure that this was necessarily a good idea however like too many times in my life I thought to myself, "why not" LOL So I made the inquiry and made a New Year resolution that I was gonna try my hand at painting in acrylics. The artist who gives lessons here l, in both acrylics and pastels is Tommy Vogel. He is originally from Illinois but, like many of us, chose this wonderful little slice of paradise here on the Gulf Coast for retirement. He got his first set of pastels when he was 12 years old and he still has them. Tommy has devoted his life to art since 2004 and he volunteers at the local Gulf Shores and Orange Beach art centers doing pretty much whatever needs to be done. It's here at the Gulf Coast Art Alliance in Gulf Shores where he also gives art lessons. He is a self taught artist that does some really stunning paintings on both pastels and acrylics of everything from tropical to still life. My experience has been a truly eye opening one because I had no idea that I could paint but apparently I can :-) Tommy isn't Bob Ross but he has a wonderfully calming and patient demanor that would make Me. Ross proud and unlike this TV episodes, where a sweeping piece of art is cranked out very quickly, we have taken all the time needed to understand the process and truly enjoy the whole experience. Everything is provided in the lessons so you just have to show up, dig in, learn and enjoy. Big thanks to Tommy Vogel for putting me on a whole new path of exploration and introducing me to the joy of painting!! Bottom line: Tommy has said that his first love is teaching adults and students the true joy of creating a beautiful piece of art, and it shows. https://m.facebook.com/tom.vogel.737?lst=100036794088819%3A100006777367943%3A1615567008
