For the past six years, I have had debilitating lower back pain. I've had to stop working out, and I've had days when I could barely walk across the room. I've gained weight, lost sleep, and have really struggled. The most frustrating part has been that no one could ever tell me what was wrong with my back. My scans showed some swelling in my SI joints, but that was always the end of it. A year ago, it was discovered through a blood test that I possess the gene HLA-B27, which can indicate the presence of a disease called Ankylosing Spondylitis. So there it was: an answer! But even after previous doctors saw this, they were hesitant to diagnose. Why? I have no idea. But I was always just put on pain medications, which is never a good answer. I actually stumbled into Dr. Paul by accident when my previous doctor was out on leave. She was the first person to have a long, focused conversation with me about what was going on, and diagnosed me with AS pretty much immediately. It was such a relief to have an actual answer. From there, I was put on the appropriate medications, and was pain-free almost immediately. It's been several months and I am still feeling amazing. Dr. Paul is an exceptional doctor, and spends time addressing questions and concerns, which I've found to be really rare with rheumatologists. She changed my entire life and I'm back to functioning at 100%, which I'll never take for granted. I cannot recommend her enough. Kathy, one of her staff, has been wonderful as well. Truly a great group of people.

The physicians assistant says they only offer interventional pain relief. What does that mean? Do they review the referral notes sent by primary care physicians? I don't think so. I was very surprised by this. He left his medical assistants, nurse practitioner and chiropractic associates just hanging. Also as his patient I felt saddened by his sudden leaving. One thing I know is that I would not want to work for Dr. Spinks. He did a decent job with pain management but needs much more experience with managing a business and people.

My job simply doesn't allow me to ask off and then rescind it at the drop of a hat so I'm out those 3 days of vacation/personal time and have nothing more to take for the year. They have no understanding of professionalism when it comes to keeping these appointments and think that a "sorry to inconvenience you" is good enough. If you're truly sorry, DON'T CHARGE ME FOR EACH VISIT I HAVE TO CHANGE BECAUSE OF YOUR INABILITY TO DO FOLLOW UPS.

This review is written as a designated driver…read more I found the waiting room to be stark and very uncomfortable. It would have been nice if they had some tables for folks who brought laptops to do work while waiting for the patient they were with. There were a couple of us who were balancing our computers on our laps. The chairs provided were not designed for long term sitting, they need a little more cushioning to be comfortable. It was a nice touch that they did have family friendly movies playing to entertain you while you waited for your friend/family member. The staff members that I dealt with were rather cold. There was no warmth or personality while communicating with them. Also, there were no employees of color. My friend even said the same thing when I was taking her home. She said, everyone who took care of her in the back medical area was white. In this day and age, that makes me uncomfortable.
