Reasonably priced fresh housemade pasta is what you'll find at Padella, a Michelin Bib Gourmand restaurant. Made advanced reservations at the Shoreditch location online and were seated immediately.
Started off with a couple of their martinis. They were a little on the small side but only cost £8, so can't really complain. The pappardelle with beef ragu (£15) had nice thick, supple noodles, lightly coated in the sauce. The tagliarini with Dorset crab, chili & lemon (£16.50) was similarly restrained, light on the crab, with a lemony undertone. I had seen complaints about serving sizes, but found both to be decently portioned. We finished with their tiramisu (£7), which is heavier on the mascarpone cream, with just a touch of espresso-soaked ladyfingers, making it a very light dish.
Unfortunately, we did not make it in time for the £2 Negronis from Mon-Fri 5pm-6:30pm.
If you're deciding between going to the original location in Borough Market or Shoreditch, I recommend Shoreditch. You can make advance reservations (as opposed to Borough Market's daily reservations requiring you to either scan their QR code on site or download their app, with reservations opening at 11 am every day). Plus, the Shoreditch restaurant is much larger and the tables aren't crammed together.
Will definitely be back on my next trip to London! read more
