Vancouver Veterinary Hospital - Backside of my dogs mangled ear. Absolutely no reason to have stitched through his entire ear cartilage yet here we are!!

They butchered my dogs ear and instead of repairing his hematoma with buttons and stitches like I was told it would be, once we had him sedated and I was to leave my dog in their care, they instead chose to suture 12 tubes into his ear damaging perfectly healthy ear tissue and stitching entirely through his cartilage 24 times. Zero informed care and quite frankly, I receive better care and service advising from my mechanic. I was sent home post-op with no pain killers or meds to help my dogs recovery process and within 5 days of his surgery and 1 evening using the no flap wrap they insisted I put him in even with these gross tubes and sutures in place, he got an infection immediately. I was told there was nothing I could buy from them to help his bleeding sutures heal a bit, clearly they are unaware Otizole exists. I was provided the wrong type of medication for the site of his infection (clavaseptin instead of cefaseptin), and ultimately needed to bring my dog to a vet who actually knows what they're doing for surgical procedures and post-op care. After VVH operated on my dog, I called numerous vets in Vancouver/Burnaby area to talk to them about their hematoma repair process and NONE of them supported the procedure of stitching entirely through my dog's ear nor was it advised to have ever sent me home with zero pain meds or anti-inflammatories, or use a no flap wrap (I was told to buy one and put it on my dog immediately after his surgery) My original review was hidden by VVH likely due to the photos I attached with it which is truly comical considering their management noted surgery procedure was validated. Show the photos and full review if that's the case and stop hiding the work you're so clearly proud of and refuse to reimburse me for despite costing me $1600 in a botched hematoma repair PLUS a second surgery which I paid for at a different vet all together, and additional costs for gauze and a no flap wrap which I was told numerous times to buy and keep on my dog for 30 days. I'm lucky my dog didn't die from their malpractice and overall lack of care in our time of need.

My senior dog was not doing so great with the care he was receiving and since we followed the suggestions out of our own hesitations from a bad experience prior around Librela and slowly swapped my senior dog to gentler natural arthritis medication and got him on kidney medication my senior who was in pain monthly is at greater peace and in much less pain now. He has really improved and we are so grateful. In addition to this, my puppy gets great care and both Puppy and Senior got great treatment for some severe stomach bugs recently even when medication was scarce, we are so grateful about how Vancouver Downtown Pet Hospital ensures our dogs all get great care and the most natural supportive effective care possible for their individual needs as though Soda and Nono Bean were members of their own families.

The blood test taken 4 months before he actually passed was a death sentence. Doctor namazi's only comment at the time was you know you have a senior dog. I sent all of the blood tests from 4 years ago and current one through chat GPT and was astonished and in anguish over the careless attitude of this vet. One I had been referred to as perfect and who I had at once time thought sat at the right hand of God. I told him at the time for months before he died during that blood test that I thought that he probably had a UTI. It was suggested I give him another test. I didn't need to it showed up in his blood work. I took my dog in because at one point in a walk he just stopped and didn't do anything for a minute or two. Well you know what it was? It was a sunset moment for him. It was proof of his dementia beginning. But no let's do a $400 blood test first. Then let's try and wring $137 UTI test out of it. Let's tell the owner that the dog now needs to be on kidney medication at 90 bucks a pop and on special kidney food. Not 4 years before in the previous blood test and not divulged. So nothing was done. Let's tell them now and let's not apologize. Let's just tell the owner that they should be grateful because the kidney actually is up 15 points from the last blood test. Like he had anything to do with it. Like now that it's better it's mandatory to have him on medication and proper food but not 4 years before what it might have mattered. My dog made it 4 months past the last blood test. When I took him in to cross the Rainbow Bridge the vet looked at his blood test and said whose blood test is that? And I said it's my dog's blood test. He said what dog? That dog? And I said yeah that dog. Paco. How long ago was this test taken he said? I said a little over 4 months ago, why? He said well did you give him a blood transfusion? And I said no why? Why are you asking these questions? And he said even was a blood test I wouldn't have given your dog a week. And yet he made it 4 months. I asked the vet why do you think that was and he said because I think you were a very good owner and gave him very good care and because he didn't want to leave you. Dr namazi never mentioned anything about his Twilight memory. He just charged me $400 for really unnecessary blood work and $90 for kidney medication and never even mentioned that Paco may have been facing cognition issues. So I just really really good care of him. And I brought him home to the Rainbow Bridge just before Christmas. I think of that like Dr namazi should not be allowed to practice and I will be writing a letter with the complete story to the College of Veterinary medicine. So if you don't care if your vet forgets to tell you important medical information that will kill your pet sooner than later and then brush it off as if it is nothing then please continue to see this doctor. If you don't mind that he just loves to bill for the sake of billing and then do nothing with the results including telling you of any danger, and letting that go 4 years? Then please continue to use this veterinarian. But if you're suddenly surprised with the shock death of your pet or if you're surprised by the shock setback of your pet by something like kidney disease that was not divulged and was too late to do anything about then carry on. I didn't even get so much as an apology. In fact the only thing I got from this vet hospital was a reminder that Paco had shots due. After he was dead. I didn't let this doctor anywhere near Paco after I found out how much he lied to me and I found out what was really in those tests. And I strongly advise anyone with pets to make sure you get copies of all the tests and you run them through AI. You'll be astounded at what you don't know and what they have kept from you and how much it is hurt your pet. I will never in a million years understand why a veterinarian would act in such a callous and malignant manner. All the while projecting and empathetic and sympathetic demeanor. I think people like him are the most dangerous people to know in any business. But particularly when it comes to children and pets. Shame on him. I will be taking this matter up in the courts as well. What a waste of $900.

Title: 2 Months of Trauma & Negligence - A Nightmare for My Pet and Family…read more I am sharing our story and the attached photos to inform every pet owner in Vancouver. What should have been a standard surgery turned into a two-month ordeal of physical suffering for my dog, Hebeh, and deep emotional distress for my entire family. 1. Medical Issues & Double Surgery: After paying $1,628 for a bite wound surgery, the site turned necrotic (dead tissue). A second veterinarian confirmed that the sutures were applied incorrectly, cutting off blood circulation. Because of this, my dog had to undergo a second surgery at another clinic to fix the issue. I ended up paying twice for a procedure that should have been done correctly the first time. 2. High Costs & Unnecessary Risks: When I returned for a drain removal, the clinic quoted $1,200-$1,500 and suggested general anesthesia. I went elsewhere, and the drain was removed safely without anesthesia for a fraction of the cost. They also charged over $200 for a "consultation" where nothing was done. 3. Lack of Accountability: When I reached out to management for an explanation, they were dismissive and unresponsive, eventually suggesting I file a complaint, and offered no refund. 4. Impact on My Family: Seeing the necrotic tissue on our dog was very upsetting for my 2-year-old child, my elderly mother, and my wife. The experience has caused significant stress for all of us. I am sharing this review so other pet owners can make informed decisions based on our experience.

I was met with indifference at reception, and shortly after, I witnessed a doctor deliver distressing news about another family's pet in a blunt and incompassionate way in the public waiting area rather than in a private treatment room. That same tone carried directly into my own interaction with Dr. Paulette Stewart. Dr. Stewart presented a broad $2000 estimate and approach that effectively tested "everything" to rule out non-neurological causes. What I needed, and repeatedly asked for, was discernment and clear medical reasoning: which tests were truly indicated based on her specific case, history and symptoms, what each test was actually assessing, and what the realistic likelihood was that certain systems were relevant to seizures. After the initial consult, Dr. Stewart routinely sent other staff members back in to respond to my questions. These were staff members who were not equipped to answer medically informed questions about testing or seizure medications and who could not explain the rationale beyond reiterating the full testing panel. When I asked to speak directly with the doctor so we could make informed decisions, Dr. Stewart told me I had "upset her staff." During a medication explanation, Dr. Stewart advised that a medication was "so your dog doesn't become a vegetable." That language was deeply inappropriate and blatantly tone-deaf during a scary and emotional medical crisis. I also had to push to have preventative seizure medication prescribed and was told I was receiving it "as a favour" because I was being "difficult." For sudden-onset cluster seizures, preventative anticonvulsant therapy is standard interim care, not a favour. Framing it as a favour was both unprofessional and inconsistent with responsible emergency veterinary practice. This experience raises serious concerns about the clinic's ability to provide trauma-informed, compassionate emergency care. People need and deserve compassionate, respectful communication when their animals are experiencing medical emergencies. I left feeling unsettled and deeply concerned about the quality of care being delivered when families are most vulnerable. While this was sadly not my first negative experience at Burrard Animal Hospital, it will be my last.
