I want to say this office is excellent however I simply can not. I'm surprised anyone comes here but people in pain are often desperate to get out of pain so that could be what keeps them in business. I tried twice with this place to have an injection and whomever schedules these really dropped the ball, as in, never scheduled the injections, nor followed up with me. The office management at this practice is atrocious. While I had a very positive experience with Dr. Gansky throughout my 4 pain management procedures...unfortunately, he is the exception, not the rule at this office. Apparently, the front desk staff and horrendous office manager, Erika, do not understand the meaning of the words customer service. Their communication on appointment scheduling for procedures with their nextdoor neighbors and affiliate office, Coastal Surgery Center, fall far short of both effiency and professionallism. Pacific Pain by Erika's design, sets procedure dates with their patients and then defers to the surgery center to give time slots for the day of. However, that consists of a voicemail message left between 7-8am by someone at Coastal and then no follow up. When one goes to call back to either confirm or reschedule at the surgery center, no one can ever be reached and you have to leave a voicemail message which is subsequently never checked. When calling back to Pacific Pain to state that you can't make a specific timeslot and need to schedule a different time..someone like Desiree simply says her hands are tied and refers you back to Coastal. So when you can't reschedule your time and then obviously can't keep the time they penciled you in for...they mark you as a no-show. After 2 no-shows, they cancel you as a patient from their practice altogether! Doesn't matter that you are in major pain, that they control all of your pain-related prescriptions which are now nullified, that you have spent months just getting referred to their office to begin with and that they have collected 4 surgery procedures worth of profits off of you...someone like Erika who just doesn't want to deal with you spins a narrative for the 3 partnership/owner doctors to justify her inability to problem-solve with patients. Don't even bother trying to get any issued resolved with her, she will bark over you, not listen to you and subsequently play office-God and cancel your ability to seek relief through Pacific Pain Management. Even my primary at Jackson Medical, beloved Dr. Ehsani thought this was ridiculous and reached out to try and rectify the matter but was Erika blocked. Erika, didn't even have the decency or professionalism to let me know (as she had promised to do) if I would be "allowed" to continue with their office, despite my calling and asking her to do so via a voicemail message. When a Pain Management Practice has a monopoly on a community such as is the case with Pacific Pain in Santa Barbara...getting removed as a patient is the difference between a quality of life vs. none. Shame on you Pacific Pain for employing someone like Erika with zero customer service skills and with a motivation only to escalate issues due to her own apparent need for power and validation. read more

The front office staff doesnt know their responsibility at all. I had handed out a handicap parking placard application 5 weeks ago and they still didnt fill it out. I brought the second form, they could just fill it out right? They didnt. He already signed the form, he would just add the diagnosis. I paid $50 for it and they say go now and come back later. When Im an orthopedic patient, it should not be this way. Also During my first visit, the front office staff were discussing on something and it turned into argument, loud talking in front of patient waiting area which is very unprofessional. read more

Great doctors, horrible patient care and office staff. Despite the good work of doctors I cannot recommend this office. If you are in pain, seek help elsewhere. You will spend hours on hold, months waiting for insurance approval, and likely be spoken to in uncomfortable or rude ways by office staff. This is not an anomaly, I have been going to this office and receiving procedures from these doctors for 2 years. I have excellent insurance. But on almost every occasion of needing a procedure the office staff has made mistakes so insurance wouldn't approve my procedures. In one case, they forgot to submit it completely. I would see the doctors and they would say "ok schedule the rhizotomy" and while I was in a pain scale of 7/10 the office staff took over 2 months on 2 occasions to figure out the approval. I was referred here by my CenCal PCP. Had an appt with a female PA. She seemed to know nothing about chronic pain nor did she have much to say when I told her my decade long experience with it after a bicycle accident. I am in deep pain everyday and just need to get regular Botox injections and am unable to do so until I get an MRI since it's been a couple of years. I was supposed to get the MRI but they never called me for the appt as they said they would. I called 3 weeks later and the admin said it hadn't been approved by cencal so she would send the request again. Another 3 weeks has gone by and I just called CenCal who said it was approved 6 weeks ago. I called them and got a VM on regular hours. It's like they don't want to have patients. read more

I had a scheduled apt with them today for spinal injections, they sent me 3 text messages stating it was today at 11:20, I confirmed my apt more then once, I live in Lompoc, and gas is very high right now. Half way there, I am told my apt was Tuesday. I have all the records that state it was today. I dont understand how an office can be so unorganized and down right ignorant to what's going on. Covid is no exception to scheduling. If I could make them reimburse me for gas, I would. I refuse to go to this place ever again and have put in a referral to go to a much better dr. I am echoing what a lot of reviews have said. I tried a PRP injection for knee pain. I think it may have helped, but the staff is so hard to work with, I will not go back, and found other providers in Santa Barbara that charge half as much. For 1 PRP injection they billed me $300 for initial consultation in addition to $700 for the PRP treatment - The front office customer service is horrible. 4 times out of 5 when you call, you get sent to voice mail. When you go in the office they are sitting around talking to teach other. When you reach a live person on the phone, they sound disinterested, maybe even annoyed, that I was calling. - Like other reviews, I did like the Dr that administered the treatment, but not the horrendous customer service one has to endure to get to him. - I also felt they charged excessive fees, specifically, $300 for initial consultation. read more

The doctors me seem like they know what you're doing, But the staff is a complete failure . In particular I will point out Erica Placencia (office manager ) I am a was a cash patient at the time, and their services are not inexpensive. While seeking relief for back issues, I selected pacific pain physicians . After several interviews, we did our first injection in the neck area it was only a testing I already invested a lot of time and much money in hopes to use them long-term to get real solutions. Their thing is to drag out as many appointments as possible, while disregarding your request to speak to doctors. They usually have an attitude over the phone as their customer service simply terrible . ( One year investing my time in visiting their office to get results , 3 k Plus in nonproductive appointments and finally one test injection ) After speaking with their people countless times (20 times) in hopes to the doctor for a consultation, you're pressing buttons while they transfer you to another operator, and the operator ask you the same question again, they are totally disconnected. I might expect this from the DMV or the IRS telephone numbers but never from an independent office. The front receptionist staff and in particular the managers mentioned above and other managers position in high levels ( I do not remember their names ) And make the patient feel unappreciated. I found myself doing a lot of re-explaining, which created frustration, which they had no skills and handling. I'm in small business myself, and found it disturbing to see such a high turnover of staff ( bad sigh) this redneck flag should've let me to search a better more professional caring office than this one . They're scattered ~ quick to have an attitude if you have a complaint about it . As a patient, they treat people terribly, even washed and treat others in the office the same way throughout the duration of my year attempting to get real service. Dismissive. I will see the doctor himself is quite knowledgeable, but absolutely impossible to contacts. I asked for his email several times, they pretended to send the email light to me and then blew me off . Additionally at the time they were connected with Samsung clinic, again cause a lot of confusion for the staff and they were disconnected, very frustrated and projected that onto all of the patients My gut instinct said, they just don't care. I made my final drive to see Erica Placencia, where is that that was there an express my frustration of not being able to contact the doctor and or speak with anyone else that might have information since at this point I was completely ignored. I was quite patient with them. As I Head High Hopes To be a long-term patient with someone who might be reliable and respectful of their patients. I was completely wrong. A total waste of my time and money, while being treated like crap The final tipping point was Erica Placencia where she blew me off in the office disregarded my frustration and would not take any responsibility for the incompetence of her office or herself. I couldn't believe the attitude I was receiving I was calm, and you treated like I was not calm. She treated me like incredibly unprofessional he. Suggesting That I was out of line, and that I should leave the office . I just had an appointment with Matt Ebling PA. I highly recommend Matt. I have been in Chronic Pain from severe Arthritis and Interstitial Cystitis for a very long time. Dr Ebling was very kind to me, he gave me some options to take care of my pain. I have been on Pain Medicine for many years now. I am unable to take most because I have IB, IC and very sensitive to most medications. In the past I took too many Anti inflammatory medicines to control my pain, i ended up in the hospital with Pancreatitis. My previous Dr John Zemjanis recently retired, he started me on Norco 10 mg for pain 3 times a day and finally i could get out of bed and go back to work. I had a bladder sling operation in 2017 that has basically ruined my sex life! I am in terrible pain. I had bladder mesh erosion shortly after my surgery. This surgery was suppose to help me from an embarrassing leakage problem. Only caused me more pain and suffering! i have to wear bladder pads every moment of the day. Dr Ebling is recommending injections to block this pain! No one has ever recommended this, I had no idea this was an option. I have been to UCLA Dr Tarnay, Dr Chaco a Urologist in town here. I have had little hope. I am very excited to try the injections, I would much rather wake up pain free then take drugs. If I could have no pain and have a sex life without pain, it would change my life. All of the staff here are very friendly and my appointment was very pleasant. I've had two epidurals for severe sciatica 9 months ago by Dr H. They alleviated most of my pain so I could go on with my life. He was very nice, caring and explained the procedure. I recently had an office visit with Dr Rashan. He spent a lot of time with me and went over several different treatment options if the next epidural isn't as effective. The PA's have been equally caring and helpful during my post-procedure appointments. I think the staff could be more warm, friendly and helpful than they are. I was in horrible pain when I came and afraid of injections as I just didnt want anymore pain. They put me at ease explained everything. Ms. Irish is great at what she does and uses fine needles. Service model is terrible. Office staff is even worse. Takes inordinate time to schedule an appointment. You first have an appointment with a PA and a separate appointment is scheduled for treatment. The PA would not schedule a treatment appointment for a procedure the Doctor recommended. If you are in pain and need prompt treatment go somewhere else. read more

The front desk at Jeoffrey Benson's office was very accommodating, concerned about the pain in my cervical spine and worked to find a solution for me. Pacific Pain Physicans gave me the impression of beaucracy and impersonal interaction. In taking a patient with chronic illness to this facility this week, I was shocked to see office staff not wearing masks and for the patient to relay the same to me while he was inside. While I appreciated that they bring in each patient individually, as health care providers ALL employees should wear masks - particularly because they serve a vulnerable population during this time of COVID-19. I have not had this experience taking patients to Cottage or Sansum. While the physicians here are very caring and were wearing masks - the office staff absolutely were not even though the masks were at their desks. Both the patient and I are distressed at this irresponsible behavior. Please wear masks during your entire shift to protect patients AND follow infection control protocols. read more

I had a horrible experience with this group. I had a spinal cord implant and it was the most brutal experience of my life. They made decision while I was under that they never discussed with me before surgery. They stapled my spine with gauze inside and hit a nerve. The staff were rude and incompetent! I was referred here by my surgeon for an epidural. Not know much about this procedure I followed these Drs adivise and was scheduled over & over again for more of these. When I returned to my surgeon still complaining of pain he was very surprised that I had had so many. On another note, I take a medication for nerve pain that is not a narcotic or barbiturate prescribed by the pain physicians & they made me return every 3-4 mos in order to get refills. Horrible place, they were over-charging my insurance everytime and not notifying me, it's a scam and the DR would just fill your R/X and send you on your way without a proper diagnosis and then they would do fraudulent drug screens and bill your insurance for those. I have been a patient at Pacific Pain Physicians for more than ten years to treat pain resulting from two spinal fusions. I am so thankful for the doctors and PAs at this office. They really seem to care and work hard to develop treatment plans. They are clearly on the forefront of spinal treatment technological advances. I also really appreciate that they look for non-pain med options for treating my pain. I am still amazed at the various out-patient procedures that are available to help those of us with chronic pain caused from acute spinal injuries. Both Dr. Mozingo and Dr. Hullander have met with me dozens of times to discuss my case and treatment options. Sometimes all it takes is to ask to see the doctor. I have been a patient of Pacific Pain Physicians for more than 2 years. I started seeing them for severe back/neck pain after a motor vehicle accident. I have had a couple of epidural injections and they have helped tremendously. I've had them done by both Dr. Hullander and Dr. Mozingo. Went to SCOI as I was told it's the best a short time after I had a motorcycle accident. Well SCOI was not the answer as they gave me an epidural which did nothing. What was needed was a nerve block. So went to PPP to see Dr. Hullander right here in Santa Barbara. It took 2 treatments/injections as 1st one did nothing. OK the hard part, YES the 2nd injection 3 days later I nearly jumped off the table as he made a direct nerve contact but it fixed the problem. That was 8 years ago and it's never come back! So don't wait around for 2 months in pain like I did. It was worth the 1 millisecond of pain to get it fixed right. Dr. Hullander is a standup physician in my book! I was referred to PPP by my PCP who sent my MRIs to them assuming they would take my insurance. I called NUMEROUS (10? times) over 3 days, leaving messages, on hold and no one answered after 10 minutes, I even went to their website where the recording said you could make an appointment! I chose a doctor and a time slot of 4 pm the next day which was available and confirmed via email that a staff member would contact me to verify the appointment. Funny thing though, their office hours showed they close at 4 pm, so I called again and left another message. I was finally contacted a few hours prior to my appt. THIS was the 1st time I was able to talk to a LIVE person who promptly told me they no longer accept my insurance!! Days of calling, leaving messages, simply asking for confirmation of insurance coverage... frustration galore while my in so much pain! I would not recommend THIS OFFICE (I cannot review the doctors obviously) due to the terrible customer service or lack of any respect for potential patients. read more

i was referred to PPP by my spine specialist for an epidural injection. I was hesitant, so scheduled a consultation. They are out of network for all health plans, so I knew there would be some co-pay. What I didn't know was that I would see a bill for $350 for a 15 minute consultation; 10 minutes with a physician's assistant and less than 5 minutes with the doctor. Total ripoff! read more

Pacific Pain CAUSES pain rather than treating pain. I was referred there 5+ years ago and had several epidural injections (the only times I saw Drs Mozingo & Hullander & then for less than a minute each time) which were not helpful. The PA's have been rude, pedantic and unethical. Even prescribing medication without telling me or me requesting it. One of the PA's removed one of my medications, just saying "We don't do that" with an obnoxious smile and refused discussion. Then just out of the blue threatened to take away all of my pain meds! They treat everyone like an addict regardless of their history. All they do is Cookbook Medicine, they don't treat individuals. Its just these are our rules and if they don't work for you, too bad! I have been suffering severe chronic neuropathic pain from an accident last summer. I am currently on disability, not able to work. My husband contacted Pacific Pain Physicians requesting that I get seen. I was skeptical about the clinic. I have been very disappointed with the lack of service, attention to detail and professionalism. I was seen by a young PA and never saw the doctor. He wanted to order tests that have been done before and was ill-prepared for my appointment, Not only did they take a long time to get authorizations for MRIs and X-rays, they made clerical errors requiring that I make two visits to get MRIs further delaying my medical treatment. read more

I was suffering from tremendous chronic pain associated with a sport-related back injury. I had previously seen two other doctors in Santa Barbara, both who gave me discouraging prospects for healing and eventually returning to my previous active lifestyle. I was stuck taking prescription pain meds around the clock just so I could semi-function as a mother of three young children. Dr. Pires gave me a treatment plan to heal my injury with the objective of minimizing my pain using alternatives to the pain meds and muscle relaxers which made me feel dopey and horrible. Living with chronic pain is costly and time-consuming, and emotionally draining...and, for those around us who haven't lived with chronic pain, difficult to understand. I benefited greatly from a spinal epidural, and a rhizotomy. Went to PP for low back pain. was given injections after shaking hands with dr & lying down on table. That was it ! Never seen the guy before. he wouldnt wait for numbing medication to work and when i squimed on table he said , Gee, You are really sensitive down there !! . after being on meds for years the P.A. decided to put me on new drug and didnt know the signs of allergic reaction i was having. They took vital signs but never looked at them or woulda noticed my BP was sky high. I left and went to E.R. where i was put on BP med. Found new pain dr who put me back on meds and sent me to P.T. i feel SO MUCH BETTER and my BP is under control. i also noticed P.P. falsified their reports. The P.A. NEVER did a full assessment but wrote that it was done every time I went in. Reporting them to State. read more

The worst doctors you could ever choose. Dr. H met me today because of a herniated disc, and I can't even stand and walk. I can't get an MRI until next week. He right off the bat accused me of causing my own pain by taking opioids for degenerative disc disease. Told me, when I was surprised and questioned him, that I was being "uncompliant" and was "addicted," and was impatient that I didn't accept what he was saying without an explanation. He offered me only those injections they like to give, which I've had before and they don't work. Told me acupuncture doesn't work, massage or other bodywork doesn't do anything. Told me he was taking me off any and all pain meds immediately, and that I could go through withdrawals and I should be prepared. What?? I live alone and I don't think a good doctor would ever suggest a patient go through that alone. Then he said he believed that I had this herniated disc after brief exam, but I'd just have to go through the pain, now and forever. And, at my age, it was only going to get worse and I'd just have to put up with it. He should have added "man up." Then, he added to my shock by saying no doctor wants Medicare patients and that's why no one wants to take me or others on Medicare. And, I should just be grateful that anybody does! I felt like crap when I left and wanted to just get my misery over with; why stick around for another 20 years in agony? If you want a real downer doctor experience that leaves you feeling ashamed, just go see him. It confirms my belief we need socialized medicine in this country because American doctors just can't get over being pissed off that they're not put up on pedestals anymore and making a bundle on other people's pain. read more

HAVE YOUR WILL MADE UP. I ALMOST DIED TWICE1 star is way too many 4 Pacific pain center. I've been suffering with chronic back pain for a number of years and but once I saw dr. Hollander and his other physician and his nurse that's when my pain truly begun. Not once but twice did they try to kill me. It's only by the grace of God that I made out of that place alive. First happen during refill pump time on my pain pump. They did not do the right refill but how am I to know that the pump is inside my body. I started having flu-like symptoms to begin with and then throwing up. I went to Samsung Urgent Care and they can not find out what was wrong with me only that I had a horrible flu like symptoms but not the flu. Just got worse and worse to the point of my dry heaving in my kitchen sink I' was taken away by ambulance from my home after several horrific days of suffering and I hear the ambulance attendee say another attendant I may be going into cardiac arrest. Long story short Pacific pain had to send someone to readjust my pain pump they had wrongly set. I didn't learn my lesson that time. And at the next time also for another pain pump refill got home got a call from P.P. office asking me to come right back immediately to have it readjusted . Yes,they again and done it wrong. Of course that was my last straw I'm noe going to a great pain doctor just off Oak Lane in Santa Barbara.. if you do decide to go to Pacific pain center, be sure to have your wiill made.
