Harris Hawk if I remember right.

Such a fun educational experience. Do the Hawk walk or one of the other close bird encounters.

After three wildlife tours we found out about this place and wanted to try it out. The Raptors is in between a zoo and a wildlife tour. Almost all the birds were raised by humans. But they are wild and could choose to go back to the wild but choose not to because who could refuse a consistent meal? We also chose to do the Closest Encounter experience which at $110 is not cheap but compared to wildlife tours it's very cheap. In over one hour we got to experience having an Aplomado Falcon (so cute), American Kestrel (stunning) and Harris's Hawk (majestic) land on our gloved hands like real falconers. We also got the chance to feed a Black Vulture which reminded me of my pet dog. It's a once in a lifetime experience. We also went to two Flying Demonstrations which were really entertaining and educational. I appreciated seeing a Bald Eagle, a Barn Owl, an American Kestrel, a Barred Owl, and a Saker Falcon fly around and thrill the audience. I would highly recommend The Raptors. Even without doing any of the experiences you can have an amazing time with the Flying Demonstrations, Talks, Exhibits, etc.

Closer tour - you get raptor on your arm

Amazing place. They rescue raptors and do a great job educating. Note that there are free areas outside of admissions where you can see a few raptors. The $22 regular admission: not that many raptors to see, but to get your moneys worth definitely stay for one of the shows. They show four birds really close and it's definitely worth it. We did the "closer" level for a few of us and you get a private group tour and get to have a hawk on your arm. They lend you a glove. All my kids (10-14) were able to experience a raptor on their arm. Amazing.

Amazing place! Did the closest experience package and it was worth every penny. Holding beautiful birds up close, watching bald eagles fish out of pools in front of your eyes, feeling a vulture soar down from a tall tree to land on your arm, watching hawks catch prey out of midair..and more! Can't say enough good things. Great staff!

Must do if you are in the area. The Raptor show is informative, educational and entertaining. While our show was running a young wild curious vulture visited. Soon enough so did it's parents. Don't want to give away the show but afterwards you can have an even closer encounter if you choose. Great for all ages. Helpful for learning how to identify all the soaring raptors by various indicators. You won't regret spending time here.

This place is not commercial in any way. It is like visiting someone's farm where they have a hobby of training, caring for and sometimes rescuing injured raptors. The birds are kept in buildings that are open on one or two sides so they are protected, yet outdoors. They are brought out to the flying field often to exercise and practice their natural flying and hunting behaviors. Make sure you plan your visit around their flying demonstration at 1:30 or 3:30 so that you can see a Bald Eagle, Harris Hawk, Barn Owl and falcon in action. The Harris hawk and Barn Owl fly so low over your head you'll be surprised they don't get caught in your hair!!! The entrance fee is $14 for an adult which includes the demonstration. For an additional $15 you can go on a "Hawk Walk" or "Owl Prowl." We chose the "Hawk Walk" which was an experience of a lifetime! There were only three of us and a guide walking through the woods with a Harris Hawk following us in the trees. We each had a glove and when the guide put some animal bits on it, the hawk would swoop down out of the trees and land on our hand to eat it. What a rush! We took turns while going through a long pretty trail. They way the hawk followed us, but was sometimes hard to see made it feel like we were being hunted! Memorable! If you are visiting Victoria and have a car, this is worth the drive to Duncan.

Everyone at the Pacific Northwest Raptors are amazing and special thanks to Isaac King for helping make our wedding so special. We absolutely love the work everyone does in protecting and raising awareness for birds of prey and highly recommend everyone to make the trip to Duncan. We can't wait to go back and see all the magnificent birds.

This place lets you get up close and personal with some magnificent birds. While I have enjoyed all raptor flying demos I have attended, this place is special. We came here on a drizzly early fall day and there weren't a lot of people. So they flew the raptors all through the crowd. It's pretty wild to feel the rush of air as a big bird flaps over your head, or to be able to hear how silent an owl is as it flies over or beside you. Or to have a turkey vulture sail between the rows of seats, checking the audience for signs of life (or lack thereof). There are multiple demos per day and they fly different birds at each show. On the day we attended, we went to the 11:30 and 1:30 demos. We would have waited for the 3:30 but some members of the party were getting hungry so we had to leave. We get up to Duncan once or twice a year and I think that we will be coming here on nearly every future visit.

This was an amazing experience. I have a fear of birds and they always made sure I felt safe and comfortable.

We went today to visit The Pacific Northwest Raptors for a great photo opportunity and we ended up getting close and personal with these Great Creatures with their Flying Demonstration of Hawks, Owls, Falcons and Yes Bald Eagles in Flight. What a neat experience, and opportunity to learn about these birds of prey known as Raptors. Well Worthwhile seeing

Cowichan Aquatic Centre - Even the City of Duncan staff cannot follow their own rules or laws. So why would anyone else?

The actual swimming pool is "okay". Nothing to write home about though considering it is barely 10…read moreyears old and has a poor design and lacked of any type of attractiveness or a single creative thought when it was built. Considering it was built in 2008 for some Indian Games event it was clearly rushed. The facility looks aged beyond its years, a 60's style pool with stained tile floors that give the impression of uncleanliness and filth. There was no foresight whatsoever for spectators which is really unforgivable since it was made to host some Indian event. 10 years later a handful of individual chairs line one wall for spectators. A total fail! This, however, must be expected in a town appropriately called Drunken Duncan by even its own residents. The lifeguards and Instructor staff is equally sub-par with many inapptopriatly showing off gaudy and awful looking gang tattoos which is on par with "The City Of Totems" reputation. Full sleeve tattoos, neck tattoos, tramp stamps, and horrid looking leg tattoos are the norm for the pool staff. Certainly not appropriate for young children and especially not for swimming instructors teaching young children, yet it flourishes at this tax payer funded facility. If you have children, and especially young boys, you definitely do not want to be going into the men's change room on most days. I thought it was me, but after doing some research I see that there have been numerous complaints over the years of old men, lingering completely naked for excessive amount of time in the male change room on a regular basis. I have witnessed this myself on numerous occasions, and it appears that this happens on purpose, frequently, and I can imagine for no other purpose other than to satisfy some sick pedophilia condition. The staff are well aware of this, there have been news stories written about it, yet it continues unabated. So if you have young male children, please be aware of this before bringing them into the Men's Change Room and certainly don't allow them to go in there by themselves. I found it shockingly disgusting that this very issue has been brought to the city of Duncan and the Pool Administrators on several times, with several articles being posted in local newspapers about it, and yet all that has ever been done is the City comes oit in support for these creepers and says that it's normal for people to be naked while changing into or out of swimwear. But that is not what the issue is. It's elderly, creepy, pedophile looking men that are fully naked and remain naked while watching young children get dressed and undressed. It is totally inappropriate and wrong. Yet the City of Duncan nor the staff at the Aquatic Center will do a thing about it. So just be forewarned about this and make your own decision. If you choose to use the men's change room on a regular basis, you will understand completely what I'm talking about in short order. Finally, in true Drunken Duncan Style, the city has put up a number of No Parking signs directly in front of the main entrance to the Aquatic Center. Signs that they erected, but have never had any interest in enforcing. Despite this, on any given day, at any given time, there are numerous vehicles parked directly under these signs in willful non-compliance. Pool staff have been made aware of it numerous times and they just shrug their shoulders saying there's nothing they can do about it. In fact, even City of Duncan vehicles park in contravention to their own signs that they have erected, because the rules just don't apply to them of course! Or anyone else it seems for that matter! And while speaking of parking, be very careful that you do not leave any valuables inside your vehicles that are visible. At most times, and especially in the evenings, there are gangs of unsavory looking teenagers that congregate, skateboard, despite signs to the contrary, and are generally just looking for trouble and looking for something to steal I'm sure. There is no Security there, I've never seen the police patrol the area, and it's no wonder that a 10 year old brand new swimming facility looks like it's on its last legs and appears to have been in operation for 60 years. However, I keep having to remind myself that this is Duncan after all! Who could possibly be surprised?
