I wanted a holistic pregnancy and that is what I got, I loved that it was non-intrusive throughout my whole pregnancy. All my questions/concerns were answered, Erin has great referrals for any type of specialist you want to see who will take you through the holistic route. She was very thorough with my check-ins and never pressured me into anything I didn't want to do. When it was time to give birth she held my hand through the whole process, I water birthed at her birth center with my husband by my side and 2 of her student midwives and it was the most intense, surreal, beautiful experience of my life, there were moments I didn't think I could do it but Erin really supported me and provided great birthing tools, words of encouragement and affirmations as I went through the motions and dilation progressed. She was very patient and caring through the process, I felt very loved, the environment is so calm and peaceful, loving. The moment my baby girl came out she was instantly on me and dad for skin to skin, she wasn't taken away from us at all and it was such an intimate beautiful moment and time. She also answered any questions I had post partum and cared for me and gave her expertise advice on any concerns I had. I couldn't recommend her enough, she is absolutely incredible! I will definitely be going back to her when I expect again. She was and is a God send without a doubt, an absolute angel. Thank you Erin, and thank you to your awesome team!

I never thought I would rave about my Obgyn but Doctor Drake is fantastic! She was recommended by…read moremy IVF doctor (full disclosure--they're actually married), but I also received several recommendations for Dr Drake from doctors, midwives and nurses. In fact, everyone I interacted with during my pregnancy couldn't say enough good things about her. As a first time mom I appreciated how responsive Dr Drake was. She was knowledgeable but also compassionate and it was easy to feel comfortable with her and ask all my questions. She took time at appointments to go over everything and managed my care well over the course of my pregnancy. When it came to my care she laid out options and presented the pros and cons while being supportive of my choices. I felt she had a good understanding of IVF, which some doctors didn't always understand (like when it came to calculating my due date). I also felt like most importantly my daughter was in good hands, which after the intense journey it took to get pregnant left me more nervous than most patients. My daughter was a complete breech and I credit Dr Drake with my super fast recovery. The nurses were shocked I was a c section and not a vaginal delivery given how quickly I was moving around and how little pain I had. She had me on a non narcotics protocol and I had very little pain and hit all my milestones ahead of schedule. I'm currently 11 week's post delivery and I'm already back to playing hockey! It's so hard to find good obgyns in town taking new patients. Santa Barbara is lucky to have Dr Drake!

Update 10/22: I *still have not received a call back from Dr. Drake's office, having left another…read moremessage. I called the lab, signed releases, and the results indicate a time sensitive health issue that should have been followed up with ASAP. I'm very frustrated that Dr. Drake's negligence has potentially my health at risk. ___________ It is Oct. 15th and I am still waiting for a call back regarding the results of a September 4th test that came back from the lab a few days later. Over the past several weeks I have called numerous times, left two messages with a receptionist, messages on their answering machine, and emailed. When I have reached someone I have twice been told "the doctor called you with your results several weeks ago" (I have no record of a call or message, and no other missed calls- maybe that occurred, but that info doesn't help). I have also been told by two different receptionists that no one can say when someone will return my call because "someone can go into labor at any time and that takes precedent"- every day for over a month?! The receptionist was very dismissive when I expressed my concerns and asked when I might get the results of this time sensitive test that I have been quite anxious about. This is one of the most disorganized health care operations I have encountered. Dr. Drake is a personable young doctor and I really wanted to support a good female ob/gyn in our town. However, on the occasion each of the three visits I have made they have lost my medical information and had to re-enter it into the second system, one visit she had moved offices and I wasn't notified before my appointment so I went to the wrong place, and this year I waited over an hour for a very rushed 10 minutes. I was already a bit worried on the day of my visit when Dr. Drake said "no news is not good news- if you don't get a call back, call us, we could have forgotten"- I was pretty surprised that a health care provider would set the bar so low for her practice.

On a funny trip my mother and I took at age 19 she mentioned casually that she didn't see me going the "conventional" way with birth. I thought she was crazy! When the day finally came and I learned I was pregnant I surprisingly Yelp'd the best OBGYN & Midwife. Not even really knowing what a midwife was. Justine answered the phone in a warm tone. "Hello"? I couldn't believe it. I was talking to the very woman who would deliver my baby, not a receptionist. Immediately I felt secure. I timidly asked how this whole thing worked and she agreed to come over at no cost to meet me and see if we were a good fit. They showed up a short time after and instantly came across incredibly, thorough, educated and most importantly warm. I explored my other birthing options and they were patient during that process. The Hospital was nice but I felt like I was always a number to them. Justine and Alia made me feel like a priority. They took all the time I needed explaining each test and making me feel safe to decline whatever I didn't feel was necessary. I had the silliest questions weekly for nine months and they never scoffed or made me feel dumb. Every test was done from the comfort of my own home. I have a tendency to faint anytime I give blood. I made Justine and Alia aware of this and when they did, one fanned me and gave me snacks while the other comforted me, told me I was loved and didn't leave a bruise. After my diabetes test I learned I was borderline and could only continue to have my baby at home if I tracked it closely. Justine and Alia helped me find a Nutritionist who got my numbers in check. Labor was the most empowering experience of my life. It took 30 hours with contractions every six minutes. Thankfully they had the resources to get me a tub which helped slow contractions to every 10 minutes so I could rest. They checked in with me constantly and let me and my husband work as a team. They did an excellent job at coaching me through my pushing and positioning. Finally with a push, Justine and Alia let my husband step in and be the first hands to touch our daughter. He lifted her to my chest and she instinctually began to suckle. I never intended on breastfeeding but once she latched I would engorge. I had no choice, I had to nurse. Justine and Alia visited with me each week at my home to see how my latch was going. I felt so supported every single step of the way. I got more than I paid for and would do it again at my first opportunity. Let me just say that this experience does change you forever and with them as your team you'll come out feeling empowered.

I took the class with my mom and best friend, who were attending the birth as well. It was the best decision I made, since it not only prepared me more for the experience of labor and delivery, it prepared my mom and best friend in such a way that they felt confident and comfortable stepping in to help during labor. Stacie's class gave my mom confidence to be a huge source of physical and emotional support for me, knowing how to encourage me and when to stay quiet. Because of this class, my best friend also now knew what to expect and was able to document the birth and to run and get things as we needed them. The most helpful part of the class for me as a laboring mom was the visuals of dilation and the stages and phases of labor. Visualizing where I was and how far I had left to go kept me encouraged along the way, realizing the longest and perhaps hardest part of labor was "getting that cervix out of the way" and knowing that once that was done, my daughter was not far away. Partly because of Stacie's class, I can say the birth of my daughter was done naturally, and is a beautiful memory I will look back on my entire life. I am incredibly grateful for having taken Stacie's class, and would recommend it to anyone (considering natural birth or not) in a heartbeat. We learned so much, and were ready and prepared for the biggest, most difficult, most rewarding day of my life.
