I paid $13,000 - for 8 trees and Derek had to be the most unfriendly, disrespectful and rude businessman I have ever met! The purpose of the tree removal was 2-fold. It was for safety around the home and also to provide LOTS of firewood! He knew this. He never introduced himself - I had to ask who was Derek when I went out to greet all the guys that showed up. Even once he raised his hand he still did not come over to me. I had to go to him and extend my hand to introduce myself. We had not met as this is my daughter & son-in-law's home. I came up from Virginia for this as I was the payor of the services, which he also knew. Derek started cutting the trees as we (my son in law & I were home) expected, including limbs of good size. Then things changed and we saw a number of pieces going into the chipper (easy for them as all they had to do with that was shoot them into the woods). I went out a total of 4 times to ask him to NOT chip those bigger limbs as they were such great pieces of firewood and even asked if they could just cut to pile or leave in on the ground by the tree. His answer repeatedly?: "IF IT FITS IN THE CHIPPER IT GOES IN THE CHIPPER!" Let me reiterate I was paying him $13,000!! I cannot begin to tell you how infuriating he was and what a great disappointment due the amount of firewood we lost due to his lack of giving a damn what the customer wanted. We did our homework and called a couple of places to get prices and ideas and picked Rye Beach Landscaping. We made arrangements with Ben Groves to visit our home. He showed up and asked us what was it that we were looking for, clearly a GREAT listener. When my wife was done explaining what she wanted, he offered a couple of suggestions on helping to accomplish what we wanted. He gave us several options and said he would go back to his office and email us some prices. He got right back to us and explained to us all our options. He was easy to work with and very flexible with any changes. Even with some things we wanted he clearly explained ways to make the job less expensive if we wanted to save money. Never did he ever try to up sell anything. He even came back with his foreman to measure and discuss our project to be sure everything we wanted could be done. He gave us a final quote and said once we paid a deposit we would be put on the schedule. We did that and after about a month of giving the deposit the job is done. It took about 1 week to do and we just LOVE the outcome and all the people who worked on the job. Ben always kept us informed as the job was being done what we could expect. Bryce, the person from the company who was our foreman, we could not have asked for a better person. Each day he came to the house (with others) he would tell my wife what to expect and what he was doing. He never complained and never stopped working.....WOW! As our project was being done, my wife continued to work with Ben and added more landscaping to be done as things were coming together. Again, Ben worked with us to hear what we wanted and offer suggestions. On top of the stonework we did a granite light post and mailbox as well as some plants, shrubs and trees. We can not say how happy we are with the work and NEVER felt being taken advantage of. Ben was so fair and never tried to sell us something we didn't want. So refreshing. On Christmas Eve, they showed up without even a phone call and cut the trees leaving the giant logs at the property. I heard that it was a roll hazard how they were left and called Seacoast. On 12/28,I was told they might not get back for a few days and that's how they do it. I expressed that this violates our contract for removal and I expected a person from Seacoast tree to inspect and insure the logs were left in a safe location.
