What was once a historical bathhouse now turned into an interactive play place for kids, it was clear that this place is desperate for money. The minimal effort put into creating an immersive experience for anyone was pathetic. Not even my 7 year old daughter was impressed. If anything she was dying to leave and visit someplace else. All of the activities could've been easily replicated with household items at home. With that type of experience, you would expect for tickets to be less than $60 (for an adult)! We enjoyed it. We opted for the couple private bath, which was 20 minutes in the bath. It was a small tub, big enough for two people. It was very relaxing, we had no idea how much time had elapsed. One of the smaller bathhouses, the Ozark offered a no frills option for middle class bathers. The Spanish Colonial Revival style building is decorated with cartouches on each side. In its heyday, Hot Springs, AK was famous for its hot springs. People came by train (and I guess some by car) to visit the hot springs for their supposed therapeutic value. Catering to all these tourists/visitors were a number of "bathhouses". Most of the bathhouses are gone but 8 have been preserved or "creativy repurposed" along the main street of Hot Springs. The central area of Hot Springs is actually part a National Park and there is a National Park Visitor's Center that provides a good overview of the history of the Hot Springs area. Bathhouses were popular before the Civil War, declinded during the war era and then resurged in the post-Civil War era. Bathhouses started falling out of favor again in the 1940's. The Ozark Bathhouse now operates as a cultural center and is a great example of what a bathhouse was like in its heyday. read more
