This little charity shop is run by the Wirral Life Church. I was quite impressed by how well…read moreordered it was, by the cheap prices, and the number of nice items. I found an adorable miniature copper kettle that was painted orange and detailed with flowers, and the lady only charged me 25 pence for it. I felt like I was robbing her. They had a good array of clothes, knickknacks, a few books, shoes, and other sundry items. Well worth popping in here.
Some of their prices obscene. 6 quid for a River Island crop jeans that has a stain on them? I'm sure they will have to keep smelling salts in the back room for when the boss sees a designer item. Does she not know that "SuperDry" is well past it's cool sell-by date? ergo, don't price it like it's a top-notch brand. Their Christmas selection is another shocker. I think they must have come over all giddy when they see "Yankee Candle" as price them as if you are going to the actual retail shop. Someone from head office really needs to check on their pricing system. After all, they get ALL of the stuff for free.

Generally speaking, I am a charity shop nut. I cannot help myself. The only problem I have with…read morecharity shops is that some of them are like this particular War on Want--that is to say, they are wanting. This was a bit of a disappointment. There was only a small range of stock (though I know that's not entirely the fault of the shop as people need to donate!), and most of what I saw did not look that nice. I wish that more charity shops would stock OLD used books (not just recently discarded best sellers, or trashy romance.) They don't have to be first editions or even remotely valuable--they are just prettier, and sometimes mean we poor people can finally get hold of some of those out of print treasures we've been dying to find. Even so, much of the fault lies with those who donate. You need to donate to charity shops. They need good stock. And you need to donate high quality items that you would actually expect someone to buy!
