It is so busy and a real community area where people meet and chat and everyone is friendly. All the staff except the manageress are volunteers and it's for a very worthwhile cause. I've found more than a few bargains in this shop, and they stock a wide range of goods including bric-a-brac, toys, shoes, books, clothes, household wares, and more recently they have started to sell small PAT tested electrical items. One of the great things about this shop is that they don't overprice items, recently I have noticed charity shops have been becoming very expensive and sometimes it ends up that you're better off buying something new in a cheap shop such as Primark than a second hand item. This is not the case in here, items are always very fairly priced. Look out for the bargain rail which is usually outside the shop when the weather is good enough - it is filled with items of clothing for 75p which have been in the shop for a set period of time - a sort of a clearance rail!

This was the place to get you holiday reading from, starting at 20p a book you can't really go wrong, even if you don't enjoy the story. It was also a fantastic place to pick up vinyl that your mum would love and you know that you shouldn't like. I think I have several of my Dolly Parton and Disney records from here. One thing that does upset me about this place is the way that stuff that's left outside just gets ransacked if the store isn't open to take it in, come on guys, this is for charity! Seriously!

Having grown up in Hackney I was surprised to learn that there was a fashion mecca in Dalston. I headed down there with high hopes of finding a vintage Dior clutch or maybe a YSL smoking jacket. After much fifling through rails I saw a few items but no Dior clutch or YSL blazer. With slight disappointment I left with an art deco frame (£5) and a small stained glass mirror (£7). So I might not have discovered any designer vintage pieces but my frame and mirror would have been at least twice the price in Habitat. If you wander in there without a wanting anything specific you may be surprised but otherwise you might leave disappointed.

My verdict: there are many, many charity stores in London, but this one in particular is well-stocked and very well-managed.

They only thing that fails is the price, £15 skirts, £17 for dresses, it just seems a little steep for a second hand store. Also, can you haggle in a charity shop or is that rude? I went here with Larissa D and we questioned this as the skirt she wanted to buy was missing a button. Anyway, it seems to be that Brixton's hipsters have forgotten about this gem as it stocks some awesome 60s and 70s clothing, leather bags and quirky shirts. I just wish it was a little cheaper!

At least your cash is going somewhere good. I'm not sure I'll return, no matter how good the business model is. I didn't find it any better than a typical Oxfam and it's a far reach from the for-profit vintage/used clothing stalls in Camden.
