Ayr is a haven for charity shops hunters everywhere. There's a 2:1 ratio of them on every main street!
As far as Oxfam's go, this is up to the normal standard. They had a nice selection of clothes in when I visited today, they keep the shop clean and easy to browse and they have a sparse collection of pretty jewellery. They had a couple of nice dresses but as Oxfam is one of the more expensive charity shop experiences I sadly couldn't afford one. They were very fifties, too - dang!
I always look for notable features of charity shops since their stock is, naturally, too unpredictable to allow for a substantial review. However, this one did have a large collection of old fashioned 50s children stories in an old suitcase, each for under 2 pounds. They were entertaining to read through and I adore the old illustrations in books like these. But more importantly, there was a full basket of "How to do the Highland Fling" guidebooks which caused me and my friend a lot of entertainment. I could actually use a guide like this since I can't even boxstep without tripping over myself but the pragmatic approach in the instruction manual was something to behold. I'll need to go back and buy it before someone else does, it was briliant! read more
