I love this church and what they're doing for the local community as well as overseas. The worship…read moreis also great if you like modern songs from Hillsong or Elevation Church. The senior pastor is an excellent teacher and his sermons are doctrinally sound. We're a military family and have to leave Augusta, so we're praying to find a church that has been as welcoming and friendly as In Focus has been to us.

We knew from the first day we visited that there was no need to look for other churches because we immediately felt right at home. Our favorite aspects of the church are that they teach sound, theologically accurate sermons, the church is multi-generational and multi-ethnic, and we have found great community through our involvement. I am so thankful to be where I am in my friendships, relationships, and spiritual walk and I don't think it would be possible without the teaching and community I have found here! A few things to note: - They do lock the doors during service from the outside, but there is a security team that lets you in as needed (it is just for safety precautions) - There is a tent that has a welcome bag, so if it's your first time make sure to stop by and snag a bag as well as meet some friendly faces - There is coffee/water/tea available before the first service and second service (yum) - There are ear plugs/ mints available at the front desk, so if the music is too loud for anyone, sit near the back or snag some earplugs (they're free!) - There is also a pre-service show that they record live every Sunday, so if you get there about 5-10 minutes before the service starts, you won't miss it!

My family moved to the CSRA looking for a solid church that teaches the Bible, is sensitive to the…read moreHoly Spirit in worship, and a strong youth program. We also wanted to find a place that valued diversity and was honoring of multiple generations, not just placing emphasis on one generation over the other. What we found in New Hope Worship Center exceeded our expectations in every one of these elements. Their leadership team preaches the word passionately, yet with a humility and reverence that I find to be super refreshing. Their worship ministry makes room for the Holy Spirit and has so many incredible worship leaders instead of just hearing from one person all the time. Their children's, student, and young adults ministries are active and growing, and I'm blessed to see how many nationalities are represented throughout the congregation (they hosted an international potluck that blew us away). As an army brat, I've been used to "church shopping" every time our family was reassigned, and unfortunately sometimes you find that local churches can be clique-ish. It can be hard to integrate, especially for military families. But I've never felt so immediately welcome and embraced by a church community than the one we have here. I'm so glad we found New Hope and made them our church home!

Long before diversity and inclusion became part of our national conversation, a small congregation…read morein Augusta, Georgia, was already helping break down racial barriers. In 1964, the Unitarian Universalist Church of Augusta opened its doors to the Open Door Kindergarten, recognized as Augusta's first interracial school. That piece of history says a great deal about the character of this congregation and its willingness to stand for its principles when doing so wasn't necessarily popular. More than six decades later, that spirit remains evident in the church's commitment to racial equality, LGBTQIA+ affirmation, reproductive freedom, environmental stewardship, and interfaith cooperation. Its involvement with the Progressive Religious Coalition and other community organizations demonstrates an understanding that meaningful change often begins with people working together across religious and cultural boundaries. I particularly appreciate the congregation's emphasis on building what Unitarian Universalists call "Beloved Community." Under the ministry of Rev. Nic Filzen, the church embraces a wonderfully diverse collection of spiritual perspectives. Humanists, Christians, Pagans, atheists, agnostics, and those still searching for their own understanding of life's mysteries can find common ground without being expected to share identical beliefs. As a lifelong Unitarian Universalist and military veteran, I was also pleased to learn that the congregation includes military families, service members, and veterans from the Fort Gordon community. Our experiences and backgrounds may differ, but the values of service, integrity, mutual respect, and responsibility to others can bring us together. The church's commitment to children and families is another strength. Programs such as Our Whole Lives (OWL) provide comprehensive, age-appropriate sexuality education rooted in accurate information, healthy relationships, personal responsibility, and respect for others. Opportunities for music, meditation, small-group discussions, and multigenerational activities further enrich congregational life. Perhaps what distinguishes Augusta UU most is its understanding that a religious community should be willing to evolve. Its recently adopted mission emphasizes connection, liberation, and creating a community where people can grow together. That willingness to continually examine and strengthen its commitments is something I deeply respect. The Unitarian Universalist Church of Augusta has a remarkable legacy of opening doors, challenging barriers, and making room for people who might otherwise feel excluded from religious life. Its history offers an important reminder that progress is built by communities willing to act on their convictions, generation after generation. Augusta is fortunate to have a congregation carrying that legacy forward.

I am so glad to have found my way back to this church!…read more Everyone is welcome here no matter what your romantic preferences, gender identity, color, creed, or special needs are--this church has always been a sanctuary for celebrating diversity, equality, and inclusion.
