I really didn't think OTFD could get any better but guess what.....it did! It's been a long wait but OTFD FINALLY opened in their new location on 419 S. Brooks Street near Tuxedo Junction. The best part if this? Even closer to my house, walking distance is even closer than before!! The menu still has the great items that were on it before but a lot of them are spruced up and there are new additions too. They have a dinner menu that allows for a little classier dining experience. I used to go into OTFD with whatever I was wearing, now, I do feel as though I need to spruce it up a bit. No more going in to dine after a workout or something similar. This is a good thing! The foyer area is amazing and is closed off with a little bench waiting area. The bar is AH-MAZ-ING!!! It is dark and has a sort of New York bar feel with draft beer, and lots of wine and cocktail choices. Hello!!!!! Much better than before! The dining area is larger and can accomodate many more peeps. The front of the restaurant is all glass which allows for more light. (I won't harp on the awful view of the back of the Dollar General. I'm sending positive vibes that this works itself out somehow). I had the Natty Greene on draft and the roasted chicken buffalo pita which was topped with romaine lettuce and tomatoes. I coupled it with the famous homemade chips and it was super scrumptious! Hubs had the wings which he always got and loves! The couple we dined with got the Terrapin Tower, now served on a pretzel roll, and a chicken wrap. We sat at the bar, partaked in a few adult beverages and watched the game on the flat screens. OTFD may have take A LONG ASS TIME to finally open the new locale but it was well worth the wait! It will continue being THE place to go when we want to dine out, as if it wasn't already before. What up Wake Forest? I was expecting Over the Falls Deli to have a water wheel, but I'll let that slide... you will find plenty of photos/paintings of Niagra Falls on the walls though. Over the Falls Deli has captured all of the greatest sandwiches ever created, given some of them upstate NY-inspired names, and put them on their menu. They also have a daily special, which was a Cuban on the day I went. Having lived in Rochester, I can't wait to try their reuben, and their roast beef (though I don't see a traditional beef on weck on the menu). For a late lunch, I went with the Buffalo pita, served with their house made kettle-style chips. I am a Buffalo wraps/sandwich connoisseur, and the Buffalo pita is grade A. The side of blue cheese paired very well with the chips. Like any good Buffalo sandwich, it was nice and messy. Buffalo sauce dripped onto my chips, which created some of the tastiest potato chips I've ever had (and I grew up near the Cape Cod Potato Chip Factory). This place is top notch. If I lived in WF, I would eat lunch here all the time. Bonus points for staying open all afternoon. read more

It seems more like a pizza and sub shop than a Delicatessen. Anyway, I took my bride here for "date night" tonight just because of the raving reviews from yelpers. Parking in that part of Wake Forest seems to be at a premium. We were immediately greeted with a smile and directed to sit anywhere we pleased. We ordered our appetizers, after all, it was appetizer night, so I had some poppers and my bride had some potato skins. I then asked Sarah for a Dagwood and proceeded to tell her what I wanted on it. Somehow I think the noise was so bad in there that she mistook my request for it to be on a toasted Kaiser roll for it to be on something else. When my sandwich came out, it wasn't on a Kaiser - looked more like toasted sourdough. No, I did not send it back to be fixed, and my reasons for that are personal. My bride ordered a spinach/feta pizza and she felt it could have used more sun dried tomato on it. The crust was something she raved about. We asked about the Niagara Falls and Maid of the Mist theme that seemed prominent throughout the little restaurant and Sarah proceeded to tell us the previous owners were originally from up in that area and after it reopened under new ownership, the new owners decided to stay with the theme. I've been a fan and loyal patron of OTFD (now OTF Tavern & Grill) since the original location opened back during my high school tenure at WF-R. I first fell in love with this charming hole-in-the-wall for its unique sandwiches, good pizza, excellent potato chips, and fun staff (which includes the original owners as well as my friends and brother who worked there over the years.) For a time I strayed away from the deli when changes in ownership caused a sharp decline in wait staff and food quality. However, Doug and his family took over a few years ago while I was still running The Cotton Company and quickly rebounded the establishment by putting Karen (an original owner and cook) back at the helm. Solid business choice, guys! I just moved back to the area after a 2-year hiatus, but I have already enjoyed the new location on 4 different occasions with family and friends. The first time I was a bit nervous - expansion can be difficult for a restaurant. Additionally, with the alteration of the name (deli/pizzeria to tavern/grill) I feared that the delectibles I previously loved would no longer be offered... Thank goodness those fears were for naught! Atmosphere: Although the new location lacks the old charm of the historic location, "different" is still good in this case. The space is much more roomy, the design choices were simple yet nice, and parking is no longer a concern. I would argue that the primary downside to the new location is that you have to go specifically there - your feet won't just wander you through the door like it would on White Street. However, that is hardly a dealbreaker given the advantages of the new space and considering how many loyal patrons are likely to follow them down two blocks. Menu: Thankfully, all of the old favorite appetizers, sandwiches, sides, and pizza are still here (Yay!) I've noticed some prices have increased, but since I was gone for a window of time I can't really gauge whether that was a direct result of the move. Additionally, there's a much wider variety of dinner options if there are some less casual eaters in your group. Food: Basically, things are as delicious as always... or so The Barrel is. My "usuals" were the OTF Club, the Barrel, and the Whirlpool at the old location; so far I have ordered The Barrel all four times, and it was positively scrumptious. Others I have dined with enjoyed the club, the Plunge, and other sandwiches I can't recall. Similarly, the pizzas that have passed my tables looked great. If anything the chips are better than they had been on my most recent visits to the old location - I don't know if they have changed preparation/storage methods or are just bringing their "A" game, but they are not greasy as they had been. The fries also look good, and I think it's a wise choice to not upcharge for them anymore. The one disappointment I have had so far was the tortellini salad; perhaps it was a bad batch, but it tasted heavily of the olives and the balsamic was barely discernible. Service: 2 of my 4 servers were fabulous, 1 was okay, and 1 was awful. Oddly I believe the 2 good ones are more representative of the "norm" here - at least based off how Karen usually runs things. The two fabulous waiters went above and beyond - anticipating needs and checking in frequently; one evening I sat chatting long enough with a friend that the one waiter even offered complimentary coffee while we socialized. The waitress that was just okay was a fine waiter - just not great (ya know, attentive but not observant). The waitress that was awful was completely inattentive and unresponsive to requests (i.e. the need for silverware/napkins after our food had already arrived...) Overall, I have pretty much always loved this place and am glad that they seem to have successfully transitioned to the new, bigger location. I'm editing my review because I really feel their " Diet Coke" issue is very dishonest. They clearly reference Diet Coke on their menu but in reality they didn't have it at all. They will take your order for Diet Coke and with no warning serve you an off brand they tell you is better for you. One waitress told us she thinks it's a sugar substitute but it's better for you another waitress told us it's just real sugar. We count carbs and don't want sugar. They act confused, and tell several tales. If you are honest -you don't have to stammer. And if your menu says Diet Coke then you should serve that or tell the complete truth. ***The response here below from the manager makes no sense. The waitress' know what buttons they are pushing and after we said " this tastes funny" they said ITS NOT ACTUALLY DIET COKE. ITS SOMETHING ELSE THAT IS SUPPOSED TO BE BETTER FOR YOU CAUSE IT HAS REAL SUGAR". And we are like? " huh? But you didn't say that when we ordered Diet Coke? What a change! We visited the NEW Over the Falls Deli on opening weekend. Our bad to go later at night when they'd run out of wings and tea - BUT what we did get was faboo! We'd been waiting on the reopening after the relocation since the sign went up stating September '11. September came and went and no OTFD. We waited - and waited - and waited some more. Then, finally - they opened! The entry foyer seems a bit hotelesque, but the decor was dark and chic. We were quickly greeted and told there'd be a 15 minute wait. We only had to wait for about 5 minutes and were then seated in the area that will become the indoor/outdoor patio. I was nervous at first when they seated us on patio furniture, but the large over sized cushions kept it comfy and we did not really miss being in the main dining room. The server was a bit of a bossy pants in telling us about "his" staff, "his" restaurant, and "his" chefs - but he seemed to be about 20 years old. Not sure what that was all about, but he joked with us when he kept having to tell us what had been 86'ed. He kept our spirits light even when the iced tea was gone! I ordered the fried green tomatoes and spicy shrimp after being told the wings were unavailable. The tomatoes could have used a bit more of the remoulade sauce on the plate, or a bit of a pico/pickled type smattering over the top to cut some of the fried batter, but were otherwise delish. The shrimp was just supposed to be the shrimp app, but ended up being a shrimp salad (still same shrimp). The shrimp were spicy and flavorful. The salad would have been great if I had been in the mood for it. Hubs loved his BLT and our friends liked their sammies and pizzas. We'll be back - and I WILL be getting the Bee Sting wings! read more

We live in Wake Forest and this is a local favorite. We go regularly and have never had a bad experience. We have gone several times during this COVID mess and it's been great. When there was a wait it wasn't too bad and the food is still just as good. I have done pick up several times and the quality is still consistent. This is our favorite Wake Forest restaurant! We eat here almost once a week - the pizza, salads, sandwiches, everything is simply the best! Service is fantastic and it always feels like a personalized dining experience! Lunch time can get a little hectic so be sure to keep your fingers crossed for a table or be ready to wait. It's well worth it and the wait is never too long. PS try the fried chicken salad!! It's to die for! I have only been here a couple times over the past several years and it's been almost 2 years since my last visit, and boy have there been changes. This place is incredible! The ambience is wonderful, classy yet comfortable. Their selection of Decour almost makes you feel like you're dining in a friend's living room. We were served by Julia tonight who was absolutely impeccable. Friendly and very attentive. Some of the best service we've had in a while. The menu is extensive and there are so many options it was hard to pick. And the quality of food is simply unbeatable. Wraps stuffed with salmon and fresh avocado, perfectly cooked sweet potato fries and the crab dip is excellent. Wil (the GM) came over and introduced himself and checked on our food and asked about our dining experience. It is that attention to detail that is making this place so good. We were very pleased. We had an excellent spinach salad -- crisp and fresh. And a goddess sandwich with grilled chicken. The servers were very help and service was prompt. A nice vibe: plainly a neighborhood place, with families and locals. One note: it's a bit hard to spot at first. At least in winter, when they don't have outdoor dining, the windows are dark, and it's not clear it's open. Also, as with so many places in our area, it's in a little strip mall. I have been regularly dining at Over the Falls for many years. It was always a dependable positive experience, until lately. At some point last year a new seating policy was implemented - 3 or more seating at the larger booths, no waiting at the bar unless you are going to eat there, and no waiting inside the lobby waiting to be called. Last year we planned a get together with 2 other couples (6 people total). My wife and I arrived and asked to be seated at a large booth. No - we were told, we can't seat you until everybody arrives. Fine, we will wait at the bar which we had done in the past waiting for an available table. No - if you sit at the bar you have to eat there. And when you enter you are greeted by the no waiting in the lobby and a 90 minute eat and get out of here policy. Friendly, huh? We waited outside in the cold. After multiple similar experiences, discussions with the management, and unanswered emails I said OK that's it, I'm done with this place. For Christmas I received a gift certificate for Over the Falls so I said OK lets give it one more try. Same result tonight. When the manager was making the rounds seeing how everything was, he was very dismissive of my feedback and essentially told me that there were plenty of other new people coming and so what if I wasn't happy. I'm pretty sure this guy got an A in theoretical econonics at school but it is totally clueless about how to manage in the real world. Anyway, my bill tonight for the Friday night special with 2 beers and 2 wines came to about $75.00. Not exactly a deal but the food and service is always very good. We arrived at 3:30 this afternoon to a nearly empty restaurant. Again we were told we could not sit at one of the larger booths that remained vacant until just as were finishing up. We were again told we could not sit at the bar while we waited for a smaller booth, for 25 minutes! This is our second time coming back since April 2014 when we had horrible service. The previous visit in April 2015 was great with awesome service. On that visit I left with my mouth still drooling over how great the burger was. May 2nd we were sat in the atrium room. Our server was a young man named Brian who did an good job based on the circumstances. It certainly seemed Brian was over-sat numerous times and even double sat while we dined leaving us to resort to his colleagues for refills on our beverages. This is not at all bad because Over the Falls has a very good team work system in place to ensure ultimate guest satisfaction. Does it always work, certainly not but it helps to have a great team. For our experience everything seemed to work out just fine. We both shared a small order of the house chips which I would argue were better than my own chips, but my wife would beg to differ. I truly love the perfect balance of cheese, chives, and seasoning served with house made ranch dressing. If one wants to try Over the Falls you must try their chips. Our meal was simply pizza and for stone cooked it was pretty good. Granted I meddled with my pizza and it turned out not as great as I anticipated but was better than Cici's Pizza and by far better than domino's. I recommend sticking with what they know best and order off of the menu. My Wife had a scrumptious pizza called the Big Kahuna but we omitted the Jalapenos. The Big Kahuna was kind of their Hawaiian pizza covered cheese and graced with Ham, Bacon, pineapples, and roasted red peppers. Next visit I am retreating back to the amazing burgers and I cant wait. read more

If I could give this zero or half a star I would. My sister and her family drove down from South Hill, VA. There were 9 total, 7 adults 2 kids. She was running late, so we came in. I said to the hostess that we needed a table for 9. Hostess said we can't seat you until your whole party is here. So, we were like ok we'll go to the bar. Nothing said. We go to the bar and the bartender takes our order "hey you getting drinks or waiting on a table?" .."We're waiting on a table!"... Ok cool" . Hostess # 1 comes up - "hey, we save the bar spots for seating, so you can't sit here." We stated, "We just ordered drinks?" She walks away. We get our drinks. Hostess # 2 ... "hey we use these spots for seating, you can't sit here, you have to go outside".... It's 38 degrees..... we walk out and it's freezing, so we literally have their glass cups of bloody marys in the car. Meanwhile, the lobby was totally empty, but they also have signage for no one to wait in that area. My sister arrives and we walk in... "hey the rest of our party is here". She looks around and states "well, that table is eating right now, so maybe 45 minutes for a wait?" When we walked in, if they sat us 15 min advance we could have had our drinks at the table and sat down? But nope, the rest of the party had to be there. So, I immediately said to take us off the list after learning even with "waiting" beforehand, we still had 45 min because of their 'all party to seat rule'. No remorse or attempts to improve the situation on behalf of the hostesses. Horrendous customer service and a terrible way to treat people - especially in the winter, waiting outside with an empty lobby? I will never be back. My friends who also experienced poor service will not be back. Also a poor impression made on out of state visitors. Keep digging your hole, food is mediocre at best. read more

Absolute 5 stars. The staff, the ambiance, the menu both food and drink, and lastly the prices. I chose to sit at the bar where i was greeted by Rob (after being Hi'd by 3 other employees) who is an awsome guy that knows his stuff. I asked about the bourbons of which he recommended i start off with the Apple Pie Bourbon......great choice, it was beyond smooth and flavorful. So, that was just what i needed to get my tastebuds jumping as i fought hard not to order the entire menu!! I mean seriously, im not an indecisive person and know i'll be back to try other stuff, but this time.....i seriously wanted everything. I ordered the Aloha Burger WHICH i might add does NOT have to be a burger. You can get it, as well as the other choices on the menu, on grilled chicken, fried chicken, and something else if im not mistaken. So, basically im saying this place is an all out pleaser!!! The Aloha comes with Red Dragon sauce (not spicy for you non-spicy eaters ), Habenero Jack Cheese, the all time fan favorite BACON, slices of Avacado, and Pineapple Pico De Gallo........yea, you can say "Daaaaaang" again!! The Pico was very fresh and crisp tasting and an UH-MAY-zinnnng compliment to the burger itself. Now, for my side i asked for sweet potato fries.....i like to think of myself as.....a S.P. Fry snob (it is what it is; haha). These were, without a doubt, thee BEST S.P. Fries i've ever had. Flavor, texture, crispness, not overloaded with salt....just freakin doggon good...(i wish i got some to go now). I couldnt get to the burger fast enough because my fingers wouldnt stay out of the fries. This is my longest review since joining Yelp and honestly i cant wait to go back to tell you all more. I would highly recommend over the falls. The staff was incredibly friendly and the food was terrific. I would describe it as up-scale pub food. It has the classics that everyone knows and loves but it is all packed with much more flavor. Their sizes are very reasonable. I left thoroughly full. I ordered their version of a steak and cheese sub with 5 or 6 types of peppers on it. It was a great guilty pleasure food. Certainly not the healthiest thing I have ever eaten but so worth it! What I loved about their menu as a whole is that there were easily 5 or 6 things I could have ordered and would have been very content. I certainly will be going back again to try some of their other intriguing options! Also, be sure to ask about their special of the day! My wife got it when we went and it was exceptional. read more

Sat at the bar table as there was a 25 min wait for dinner on a Sunday. Great service & awesome food. I had the green goddess sandwich with coleslaw. Oh and I added chicken. I dive right into the coleslaw & let me tell ya, not only was the portion large it tasted amazing! The sandwich was next, I really enjoyed the cheese & pesto. I could have probably done without the chicken but felt as though I needed some protein. Everyone else enjoyed the meals they ordered. The caprese sandwich, the carnivore pizza & the Tony sandwich. Rude management, harassed/rushed us to leave the table since we have overstayed their "90 minutes limit per table". I have tried telling the manager they should start telling their customers about the limit beforehand while getting seated and not afterwards to which he replied: "Do not teach me how to run a 4 million dollar business".
