I came in to look at spotting scopes. A very helpful young man took out several of the Vortex scopes for me to try in the store. Vortex was having a good sale, which he informed me of. I have never encountered someone behind a gun counter who was so dead set on not wanting my business. Wildly rude and dismissive.

So last year my husband bought me a firearm for my birthday and even though I didn't receive it till February due to the backlog of processing at the state level, they were super helpful in walking me through the process the whole time recommending trigger locks, storage and classes that would help extend my knowledge of gun laws and safety. In March we took the concealed carry course they offer which doesn't really explain anything but how to get a multi state concealed license. Would go through the process here again. So, My son and I go to Sportsman Warehouse in Vancouver WA fairly often, and I have purchases multiple firearms from them in the past. Went there today and they had a 9MM Revolver in the glass showcase priced at $399 according to the little tag sitting in front of it. I was going to sell them one of my other 9MM guns that I rarely use and I mentioned several times to the clerk behind the counter that I would be back to make the trade. So, I drove home to collect my gun, went back to Sportsman Warehouse to sell them my gun and purchase the revolver. We went thought all the waiting in line, doing the trade in paperwork, background check paperwork, and purchasing paperwork. They finally rang up the new revolver and it came up at over $600. I told them the tag in the showcase said it was $399, and that was the only reason I was purchasing it. They would not budge on the price, and No APOLOGIES from them. So, I mentioned that I would never shop there again and we left. Horrible customer service, at least admit your mistake and apologize, especially after I spend over 2 hours running home to get my old firearm and wasting my whole morning doing all the paperwork. Needless to say, Sportsman Warehouse is now off our places to shop. I will not be spending another penny at that place. read more

This store used to have a decent selection in the fish department. Now it's riddled with empty hooks and shelves. The spinner wall looks like someone bought a ton of 3-5 styles and spread them out to cover the space one per hook. This store is 5 minutes from my house but I'd rather drive 15-20 minutes to fisherman's in Portland as they usually always have what I need or up to bobs in Longview. Today I went in in hopes to get some cure for my eggs. Once again met with barren shelves. Walked out empty handed drove down the street to Bimart and spent $50 there. Get some new buyers and don't use manufacturer supply chain as an excuse. Stock up with the gear we need in the nw, spend the money and make more money. read more

Walked to the checkout and saw their were two cashiers both with the lights lit but the farthest one was not helping anybody. I walked to this spot and was rudely told to "get back and you'll be told when to come forward". I don't know how today was my first check in here??? I've probably dropped 3 grand in the past year and a half getting my family and I all geared up for our backpacking adventures. I have gotten everything from backpacks, sleeping bags, jetboil, chairs, boots,knifes to firestarter, hammock straps, hatchets, water filtration systems and dehydrated food. This particular round I purchased a 16" cast iron Dutch oven to do a bigger cook out than usual this Thanksgiving. I knew there were bigger Dutch ovens out there, but wasn't expecting a 16". I had my choice between a few different brands, I went with the one that said MADE IN THE USA right on the box and on the oven also. $87. Not bad. I'm always disappointed coming in here. Just made a $150 purchase. After the transaction was complete, I asked for a bag. The cashier said she had to charge ten cents for a bag. But the transaction was over and I didn't have any change. I said I just needed a small bag. "Sorry we only have one size." Extremely poor customer service. Missed out on a $300 knife sale. No one was at the counter or near the counter. After almost 10 minutes an employee strolled by, looked at us, and continued walking by without even acknowledging our presence or that someone would help us. Then he got about 60 feet from us, turned around slowly like maybe he was coming to help, and walked by again. This is not the first time we've been ignored but the first time it was blatantly obvious he just didn't care to help. I went in to Sportsman's Warehouse on Saturday to pick up a few things I needed for the boat. The guy that helped me was great. He gave me a couple of options to work around my budget. While I was in there I noticed they had some pretty great deals on Lamiglas rods and Okuma reels. I ended up buying an Okuma reel. The same guy that helped me before said he could add the line for me at a reasonable price. He put on 200 yards of 80 lb braided line for $20. Great deal. I also picked up an Okuma rod to match my new reel. Check out was very fast and smooth. The cashier was super friendly and inviting. ZERO stars. The clerk at the counter said I smelled like marijuana so he would not sell me my guns and canceled my guns that were already on order. The store manager was a complete piece of shit and voided my second amendment rights right there on the spot. I explained the reason I smelled like marijuana was because I worked at a farm but I was not a user. The clerks at Sportsman's are not the Federal law enforcers. I wrote three letters to the district manager and got absolutely no reply. One manager was named Travis and the other manager was named Justin. Bought an over and under shotgun, I dealt with the most impolite people on the planet at the gun counter. The guy that started my paperwork failed as he was indifferent and needed to go on his break so he turned me over to an associate that had to start from scratch getting my information done and submitted to NICS. The guy that was going on break wasn't one bit polite about it and basically dropped the job in his co-workers lap and talked to him like he was a dog. I asked some questions about the stock to see if the guy knew what he was doing, he said it was composite when it was obviously a wood product. He took it out of the box, it was kinda stiff but I thought maybe it needed to be cycled a few times, he couldn't be bothered to take a look at it when I mentioned that it was a bit too tight. I took it home and cycled it a few times and it gouged the two surfaces that came together, I'll bring it back and hope they can replace or refund my money I bought it 2 days ago and never fired it. This experience was giving the gun counter a second chance. I went in two or 3 years ago to buy a specific gun and the guy behind the counter flipped a monitor around for me to "find it myself", (he's still there and still a jerk). I went to Cabelas (excellent experience) and bought what I needed. Fortunately, they ditched the stupid monitor system as I could look at guns on a computer at home. I have to say that I won't ever cast a shadow over their gun counter again, I don't like to be treated like I'm a bother. I have noticed that these are problems that start at the top of the company and trickle down through the employees, to see the biggest jerk I've ever dealt with still working years later is indicative of a larger issue. I hope Cabelas gets a store near Vancouver as they will siphon off most of this companies customers. Follow up: brought the price of crap back to the store and they said they don't take returns. As far as the fishing department goes, I come here for my fishing stuff all the time. I kind of don't know what I'm doing because I'm still a beginner fisher. Usually when come here, who ever is manning the fishing department would see me and attempt to help me but wouldn't really get anywhere when I tell them I don't know what I'm doing. I would also ask questions on what to use and what fish to go for and I still wouldn't get a sure answer. Bought some Merrell Moab hiking shoes from Sportsman's Warehouse. Good price of $89. The shoes arrived soon after (mailed from our local store), but (a) it seemed odd that the shoes were loose in the shipping box (they weren't in a shoebox inside the shipping box); and (b) the shoes were defective: There was a big bulge under the liner inside the left shoe, so it was uncomfortable. Really? Seems like the person who shipped the loose shoes could've noticed that. So I started the return/exchange process, and, online, they asked me to submit photos of the defect. ??? I don't have a way to take a photo of the far inside of the shoe, up by the toe cap. So I drove from Ridgefield to the store, to try to exchange them. The cashier took the shoes and said go pick a different pair. At the shoe area, a nice woman helped me, but the only Merrell Moabs were $135, not $89. I took those to the cashier, but she said in order to exchange them and get these, I'd have to pay the difference of $46. What, I asked--why? She said the defective shoes were a closeout and they didn't have any more of those. At no time in the purchase online did the store tell me this was a closeout. Anyway, in the end, they just refunded my purchase, which was nice, but I didn't get the shoes. Oh, and also they have a big sign outside that brags about best prices. Really? Don't get me wrong, I love Cabela's, and now that there is one in Tualatin it's really cool, but sometimes I don't have the time to get down there. Here's another little thing I found, on a lot of things, Sportsman's is cheaper than Cabela's. I am sure that the upper management likes me again now. I don't camp much, gave up hunting a long time ago and I fish sporadically, so why do I come here? I hike (or I did, I will again when I am done with this cancer crap) and I barbecue. For you amateur pit masters out there let me tell you that this joint has some deals on wood chunks, mini logs and if you swing that way, chips. They have everything Lodge for your cast iron fetish too. We all use those folding chairs that never go back in the bag right, they have scads of them to choose from at every conceivable price. Clothing, candy, backpacks and everything associated with them... I could burn a heck of a lot of bandwidth going on, but I will just say they cram a lot of neat stuff in that building. I will give a big shout out to the staff, very friendly and helpful. Bathrooms are always clean, stores shelves in order, well stocked and fast check out. Kelli just today turned me on to the Loyalty Program, I'm now a card carrying fan. Sadly, on my closing assessment of handicapped access they get only a C. The handicapped parking is three rows away from the door and the parking lot is a little rough for knee scooters (like me), walkers and wheelchairs. SW nailed out its black Friday flyer advertising all its deals along with hours, locations, etc. One deal caught my eye and I planned on being first in line when doors opened. I wasn't first in line, but was there when doors opened and was 3rd pick at the gun counter. Grabbed a seat and waited for no 1 and 2 before my number was called. Showed the clerk the BF ad and said I'll take that one. The Clerk says "That's what the last guy wanted. Neither of you will get one because they all sold last night after midnight". Didn't say anything about on line purchases in the BF ad, I checked. Pointed out what "Doors Open @ for BF" means. The clerk says "yea, that's a bad deal, don't know what to tell ya, maybe try back later for the next truck" And that was it. No rain check, no sigh up list, no apologies for lost sleep/time and gas. Nothing. Well "fool me once, shame on you, ..bla, bla.....me" I always thought the parking lot was empty because of the high prices, might be poor service or company policies. read more

The staff is extremely nice and informative. They feature so much...stuff for hunting, working, fishing, paintball, etc. etc. You know all that predominantly outdoorsy stuff. Their prices are very reasonable for the quality of products they have. They offer classes and various types of events here. They offer Clearance Items both in store or on their website! If you're an Outdoorsman then this is definitely worth a visit. There is plenty of parking in this strip mall location. Their website is very user friendly if you need to use it. I purchased a .22lr revolver at the beginning of October, and after a month a wait, I was told I have to come in and redo all the paper work. Not because I did anything wrong, but that because the back ground check had not come back. Now, under Washington state law they could release it to me legally. I was told they 'couldn't', which is not true, and when corrected they said that it was policy to release it. Since doing the paperwork over would mean restarting the back ground check, it is entirely possible they would keep my money and never actually give me my firearm. I am never buying another firearm from Sportsman's and instead will shop at a LGS that actually supports my Second Amendment rights. read more

The greeters and floor associates were very nice. But the associates behind the gun counter were absolutely rude. There was a line and each associate would help customers that were a certain race. They would make eye contact with my partner and I, but wouldn't say hello Or even ask if we've been helped. We stood there for about 20-30 minutes before a younger gentleman came and asked if we'd been helped or not. There was another customer that was not the same race as the associates as well and he wasn't helped either. He ended up walking away. read more

I called and the first woman was pretty rude and then she transferred me to another woman who was nicer and informed me that 1. It was gonna take a few days for me to get my item (I ordered in store because it said I would be able to pick it up today and i was leaving for a trip) 2. They couldn't refund it because it was already on its way to the store but i could receive a refund once it got there... but that once the refund was initiated it was gonna take 7-10 business days for it to show up in my account. I purchased a firearm and was then told that they would not hold a box of ammo for me so that I could actually use it. They then changed their policy a few months later, and refused to help me out when I called about it because then "they would have to do that for everyone". Hey, dick... YOU SHOULD! If someone has spent hundreds of dollars on a gun in your store, the least you could do is hold one box of ammo for them before putting the rest on the shelf. Customer Service is non existent at the store level and online. I am trying to spend $500 with them on a pistol that is temporarily out of stock. S.W. has no system in place to notify customers when an out of stock item will be available and when it is, no way to let you know it's back in stock. Instead their " state of the art " customer support requires you to check back with them on a regular basis to verify availability ! I can't believe that a large retail store chain like this isn't geared with all the current order fulfillment technology to support their business and ultimately their customers. There is too much top of the line competition out there for these guys and if they don't step up their game plan, SW will probably not be around for much longer. read more

Overall good experiences here. They have a military discount if that's what you're looking for, and the associates are all really friendly and helpful. Only problem I had there was when I purchased something online, and wasn't able to pick it up for a while because of a computer issue they were having. I was super annoyed, but they did make it right. Great selection of firearms and extra stuff you can't live without.
