One of my favorite parts of Montreal to stroll around is Outremont. There's a laid back atmosphere in this part of the city... Things seem to be a bit quieter, a bit more relaxed.
Outremont is an affluent residential borough (arrondissement) in Montreal. The neighborhood is inhabited largely by francophones, and is also home to a Hasidic Jewish community. I love the nice shops, ice cream parlors, wide sidewalks and cool restaurants of the area.
Since the 1950s, Outremont is mostly residential. This beautiful residential area is known for its stately Victorian homes and tree-lined streets. Upscale clothing boutiques dot Avenue Laurier Ouest, while Avenue Bernard has cafes and chic, laid-back restaurants. The art deco Théâtre Outremont presents concerts, films and comedy. On Mount Royal's north slope, leafy Mount Royal Cemetery has paths and striking statuary.
The neighborhood's major commercial streets are Laurier Avenue, Bernard Avenue, and Van Horne Avenue. read more
