Certainly, Schwabengalerie is uncomparable with the shopping giants such as Kaufhof or Karstadt but it is quite good to buy groceries (Kaufland or Aldi), household products (dm), electronics (MediaMarkt), small gifts (Nanu Nana), books, computer games, to go to hairdresser's, fitness-studio, bank (LBBW), etc. Unfortunately, park places in the shopping center are not so cheap.

You can get a freshly made sandwich super cheap too. All the meat is frozen so if looks fresh, it's not. It will tell you not to refreeze. You can get some pretty good deals. Baby back ribs for around $5 for a double rack...not bad. Make sure you watch prices...not for sale items but just the regular price. Since they sell at 10% over cost the price goes up and down with each shipment. Also, pay attention in the produce section. Some things that you are used to paying "each" for is charged by the pound. Lettuce, for example, is typically $0.75 PER HEAD but here it is PER LBS. Lettuce is pretty heavy when you aren't paying attention.

She makes sloppy wraps by adding disproportionate amounts, making the wrap impossible to roll neatly. What I do every time she's making them is GUIDE her-"Not that much lettuce" or "Will you be able to tuck it and roll it with that much in the middle?" Otherwise, the rest of the commissary is pretty good. Although, they don't have a standard date format when they crank out expiration date stickers. So you have to guess if "08-09" means September 8 or August 9. Look closely at their expiration labels as one time I bought snacks that expired and began to mold. They don't seem to monitor this.

There are several dining options, but be prepared, they're not like the "options" at an American mall. There is a cafe that even serves pizza slices and pastries, a 'fish and chips' diner, and a couple of German deli style food options, along with a stand-alone coffee shop which looks like a bar in the walkway of the mall. This mall has an Apple store! (Reviews for the Apple store are posted separately.) The fashion prices in the mall are not that great, but at least you can find most of what you need. We paid 400€ (do the US conversion) for a party gown. We also paid 100€ for my daughter's athletic shoes (which didn't last six months anyway). If you have access to the military base, you can always find better prices on clothing and shoes there. But, they don't always have the size (or style) you need so you end up overpaying at the mall if you're in a pinch. The atmosphere is very pleasant here. The chocolate shop is my favorite part about this mall. (Yummy!)

I bought a Wellensteyn-brand coat here, and love it. I highly recommend this brand of coat, it is super-warm while not being bulky, and also fashionable. My experience purchasing my coat was very smooth. I found a saleman who spoke English, and he did the rest. The strange thing was, apparently you have to purchase things at this store from a specific check-out area, so they mark it and send it to the cash register where you can pay for it and pick it up. They accepted my VAT-free form with no trouble, and I saved myself over 30 euros! Good experience, will come back here if I need more clothing.
