The folks at Old Tombstone have got an outdoor theater, an offering of bus tours, and...a mini golf course? But nobody comes here to put, it's all about tales of 19th century America that feel almost satirical. It's a cool summer day, with Tombstone's elevation of 4500 feet leaving the town a solid 25 degrees cooler than Phoenix. I grab a beer from the little tavern, and take my seat on the bleachers of the outdoor amphitheater. Old country tune (Big Iron) is blaring from the loudspeakers, and I see the actors take the stage. They look familiar--they're the same dudes casually roaming the streets in costume! And right as the first scenes unfold, we learn those gaudy revolvers on their hips are actually real guns, and they're going to have fun shooting blanks all afternoon. Without spoiling the entire production, it's set in the time of the mining boom, when Tombstone was full of opportunities, where we learn it was full of bankers, lawyers, territorial wars against indigenous people, and "ladies of the night". This is REAL America where there are next to no rules, and making money by any means possible is the name of the game. But there are still good guys and bad guys, of course! The bad guys, who we, the audience will boo are the bankers, lawyers, and politicians. They don't literally appear in this production, but the antagonist is a robber, which in wild west epistemology serves the same function. The good guy, of course, is the cop...er...sheriff. He is a wildly incompetent drunkard who loafs around on the job and can barely shoot straight, let alone stay awake, but he's putting his life on the line to protect some property, so we're obliged to applaud. If only our actual discourse could be so straightforward. The show has plenty of action and one-liners, and everyone has a great time! Across the street, there's a bus tour with a different actor who will expand on some of the historical references made throughout the show. Like the rich history of Chinese immigrants, the most successful of whom a woman who made money getting men into mines and women into brothels. You will see the sites where people died, a glimpse of a gangster graveyard, and more. This place is really small but it's actually full of natural beauty and much better weather than the valley. We really should have made this our capital city. This is more than worth a day trip and it's such a treat to see a little history up close.

The SPRNCA is more than just an old ranch house near the river off SR 90 where birders mingle…read morealthough it is the most used site in the area. The area includes 40 miles of a well-marked wide dirt trail along the San Pedro River that once was the home to the local Apache tribes. I live eight miles due west from the Hereford Bridge trail head and bring my dogs here to let them enjoy the river where few people go. This is eight miles from Mexico. Right now we have plenty of migrating hawks and eagles, and soon we will have our hummingbirds from the south come back up here. You can walk all the way down to the international border along the trail, although I'd advise you to not do it alone as border crossers do come through. There are no water stations or rest areas along the way; it's all primitive so bring your own water and make sure you have a fully-charged cellphone. The trail is mostly flat and exposed. The views in all directions are of mountain vistas. Creosote, mesquite, desert grasses and catclaw are common flora right off the trail, but you may come across adobe ruins, old pumps, even an old carcass or two. Other great stops are Murray Springs Clovis site and the nearby Clayton house (now just ruins) Beside the San Pedro House, there is also the old mining town of Fairbank further north. Volunteers man the old school house (now a visitor's center) on most weekends. There's also an historic cemetery. Near Millville there are even petroglyphs. North of Fairbank is the old mining town of Contention, but there isn't much left of the town. The trail going north of here is little used, and the river dries up in the hotter months. The Bureau of Land Management manages the trail. It's understaffed and the trail therefore can get overgrown at times. However, I enjoy this area for my solitude. I can take my dogs here and bother no one, and using it doesn't cost a dime.

Beautiful stop in between Sierra Vista and Bisbee! Easy to stop for a few minutes to take in the…read moreCottonwood trees and/or spend hours along the trails. We visited at a time when the San Pedro House itself was closed to visitors due to the pandemic plus part of the River Trail was closed off due to forest fire risks. However, a large section of the trail was still open and we were able to walk along the river and get lost under the canopy of green lush foliage and trees. It's worth the walk from the San Pedro House to the River to hang out under the trees, you don't have to go far to find a cool spot to sit and admire the scenery. You'll walk on a wide flat trail along a field, at the time we went the field was filled with small yellow daisies before getting to the canopy of trees. Check the website before visiting so you can know what you're in for in terms of hiking or going inside the San Pedro House. Hope to come back in cooler temperatures to spend more time on the trails. Oooh take your binoculars too, spot is also known for great bird watching.

It's a safe place for kids to play and is affordable. My daughter found this place and we went there with her two sons at 3:30pm last Wednesday. The place was near empty with just two other young children. The crowds didn't come until after 4pm. I was impressed. There are inflatable bouncing pads. a go-cart track, basketballs and soccer balls, a snack area. There are four massage chairs and a charging table for cellphones for the supervising parents. The attentive, friendly and helpful staff keep the place clean when they aren't busy. My daughter bought two two-hour passes for the boys at $20 each. Colored wristbands show the time the pass expires. They also had to wear grip socks (for purchase) as no shoes are allowed in the play area. The staff waved good-bye to us as we left at 6pm.

We didn't use the lap pool as there was a swim team practicing. The hot tub/pool was comfortable. We also did not use the water slides. WE called THEM to check, since no one called us. There were spots, it turned out, but she refused to hold the spots for even a few hours, to get our card and pay. This is not their usual policy. Other people at the Cove have held spots every time for 24 hours, when they call US to tell us about the waitlist spots. This gives working families time to check their schedules and call in payment. If the city staff can't give working people 24 hours to pay, then they really don't need our tax dollars to pay their so-called "services". Really we should just replace these subhumans with AI bots, since all they can do is enforce "the policy" which is NOT the policy to begin with.

I booked a two-hour Train Trestle & Petroglyph ride for my family for which I received a…read moreconfirmation email and then a reminder email the day before giving vague directions on how to get to the horse area where we would be met by our guide. The email stated that we should arrive 15 minutes early and be prepared to pay cash. When we arrived, the road was not marked in any way and we apparently stayed too far to the left and ended up down the wrong path. Fortunately, Red saw us and came on his ATV and helped us get back on the correct road. Red also contacted the person who was supposed to be giving us the tour who apparently had "looked at the wrong date" so there was no one ready to take us on the tour. Red had a hay truck coming and was going to try to take us on the tour himself, but after over an hour of waiting, we decided not to proceed as we had other activities planned for the day and Red was still unloading the hay. To their credit, Red did try to help and was a very nice person. We were contacted by the company to try to reschedule but we were only in the area for a short period and already had activities scheduled for the rest of our time in AZ. It looks as though they have some interesting plans for this business, but it does not seem to be organized yet. When I called the number, the voice message was from December, talking about being closed for the Holidays and opening in January - so obviously not updated. If you are thinking of using this company, I would recommend that you contact them the day before and speak to someone to be sure they will have a guide there to take your group on the ride. I mistakenly assumed since they had sent me an email that they would be ready.
