I'm not sure if he was the owner or just a booking manager but he was not on our trip as we went off with Captain Mike and Donnie the deck hand. I will say this, Captain Mike was kind of a jerk. He didn't know we had 18 coming. I think he only thought there was 12. But I'm not sure why he would be frustrated with this. I had to pay him in cash the remainder and he didn't know the remaining balance either. After that was takin care of he was just sour saying the waters not good, too much wind, etc etc. Start with a positive note! Donnie on the other hand is the man! Cheerful and talkative and super helpful. Set all our lines up, cut the fish up and threw all lines out. We were able to land a huge redfish within 30 minutes out in the jetty. Now this is where an issue we had come in. We are all from out of state, Houston and the website addressed that we all just have fishing licenses and when we do get the red drum tag. We did it all online since we are from out of town. However we didn't get physical red drum tags. So we weren't able to keep any fish. This is where Captain Mike turns around and felt our frustration. He tried his best to figure out this scenario for us but in the end we didn't have physical tags and it didn't work out. So we decided to catch and release. Caught another big one had a good time and rush reeling it in. Got back to dock, tipped Donny who was the man and Captain Mike for trying his best for us even after a grumpy start. I would book them again. Things to note: the boat is older but their prices more than are reasonable for what you get!

We were worried about the trip because of the full moon the night before and heavy winds at the beach the morning of, but all worked out well. Steven took us to a location with no wind and put us on the bite immediately upon arriving. We ended up limiting out on trout within 90 minutes. We proceeded to fish for reds for the rest of the day and even ended up catching a flounder. Steven is a really nice guy - easy to talk to, not too pushy while being very helpful on technique. Equipment is in good shape and the boat is in nice condition. I've been with many guides who don't want to swap out bait that is damaged or dead - not Steven. Any problem with the bait and a new one was on the hook immediately. Highly recommended - we had a great time.

We went about 60 miles out (about a 4 hour ride) and as soon as we stopped, we were right on top of the fish. I caught about 8 or 9 snappers (can only keep 2 per the limit) and some smaller fish and walked away with a beautiful haul. Some guys were catching every time their line dropped! We caught our snappers quick and had time to look for some king but ended up going a bit further to hit these really nice B-liners (that fed the group nicely at a place one of our deckhands recommended). I also hit on a baby amberjack which wasn't such a baby when I was reeling it in! (that thing put up a fight!) and we got 2 sharks! Overall, the weather was awesome, the crew was phenomenal, and the fishing was legendary. If you're thinking about going on a charter to do some offshore fishing then I would highly recommend Smith and Sons Charters!!

My girlfriend, her son, and I have visited your pier every year for the past four years. During each trip, we spend eight or more hours a day fishing. We have always had positive experiences with Mike and the other staff members, which is why we continue to return, spend money at the pier, and recommend it to others. On the evening of 06/13/2026, at approximately 7:15 p.m., my girlfriend and I went inside to order a pizza before heading to the beach. After placing our order, we were instructed to wait upstairs. As we were preparing to sit down, a man immediately approached us regarding my backpack cooler. I had just removed the cooler from my back when he informed me it was not allowed. We explained that we were unaware of the policy and had only come upstairs because we had been directed to wait there for our food. He did not identify himself or explain his role. He stated that if there was no alcohol in the cooler, it would be fine. Wanting to be honest, I informed him there was alcohol inside. At that point, he grabbed my bag and said he would hold it. I asked if I could retrieve my wallet first. After asking twice, I was told to stop being rude. I explained that I felt the way he had approached us was unnecessarily aggressive. My girlfriend attempted to de-escalate the situation, but the interaction continued to become more confrontational. We ultimately chose to return downstairs and wait for our food. A woman who identified herself as the General Manager then approached us and stated that we had been rude to the bartender. Rather than attempting to understand the situation or de-escalate it, she immediately became defensive and repeatedly threatened to make us leave. When I questioned whether she felt her approach to customers was appropriate, she continued to insist that we were at fault and needed to "learn how to read." My girlfriend made multiple attempts to calmly explain that this was simply a misunderstanding and that we had not intentionally violated any rules. Unfortunately, she was repeatedly interrupted, spoken over, and dismissed. Even after asking us to follow her outside to review the posted signage, the conversation remained condescending and unprofessional. I would like to add a young man and woman staffed within the store were both present during this. And immediately apologized for the interaction. To be clear, this complaint is not about the policy itself. I fully understand the importance of following alcohol regulations and protecting your business from potential licensing issues. Had the policy simply been explained to us respectfully, there would have been no issue. The problem was the manner in which we were treated. What should have been a simple conversation about a misunderstanding escalated into an unnecessarily hostile interaction. Rather than helping resolve the situation, both the bartender and General Manager appeared to escalate it further. As longtime patrons who have supported this business for years, we left feeling disrespected, belittled, and unwelcome. That was disappointing, especially given the positive experiences we have had at your establishment in the past. I would appreciate this matter being reviewed, as the behavior displayed by management on this occasion fell far below the level of professionalism I would expect from a business that values its customers.
