We had dinner at Osteria Oscar a Montecitorio, which is just a few blocks from the Pantheon. We really enjoyed sitting outside, mostly because the restaurant in on a side street, Via delia Guglia, as opposed to one of the main tourist thoroughfares. Much more comfortable. Our starters were Bruschetta Misto (€6) and a Caprese Salad (€12). Well, Caprese Tower, really. It was very good. Our pasta course was Tonnarelli alla Carbonara (egg yoke, ham, parmesan & pepper / €8) and Tonnarelli Cacio e Pepe (pepper & pecorino cheese / €6). Lesson of the day: Always read reviews of restaurants before you try them out. My friend and I decided to come to this restaurant because we were starving, the prices seemed reasonable and the environment was well decorated. My friend decided to order the risotto and I ordered the clam spaghetti. Our food in general wasn't bad (Don't know if it was our hungry stomachs talking or if it was actually good). It was pretty decent for what they charged us. The service was pretty reasonable too. The servers were not incredibly friendly like how I like my customer service, but they were attentive and always asked whether we wanted anything else. At the end of our meal, they even offered us free cookies and chocolate which was very nice and generous of them. CONS: When we got the check, we noticed that they charged us 4 euros for our table, 4 euros for water (it wasn't even bottle water like most restaurants give you in Italy. It tasted like water straight out of the tap) and 3 euros for a service fee. I understand the service fee but the 8 euros for water and our seats was unreasonable. The restaurant was basically 80% empty and they had no issues with seating us. The 3 euros for our service fee was okay. We were planning on giving them a tip because of the nice gesture with the chocolate and cookies but since they gave us unnecessary charges, we decided not to. After getting the check, I decided then to look the restaurant up on yelp. (ONE OF THE ONLY REGRETS I HAVE DURING MY ITALY TRIP) I read reviews on how this restaurant charged for unreasonable things and how the food gave some customers food poisoning. Now I am feeling very paranoid about getting sick on my Easter vacation. Hopefully all you yelpers out there read this review before having this restaurant! This is a lovely traditional Italian restaurant a 2 min walk from pantheon. If you want great traditional Italian food in as wanly restaurant then this is your place. The locals eat here, so it must be good. The food is good and the staff are friendly. Definitely trimmed a bite to eat here. read more

Worst risotto I've had in my life, father and I both ordered it. Incredibly undercooked with no flavor. We should have kept walking but were hungry after seeing the pantheon. Relatively expensive as well, especially compared to the quality (lack of) of the food. 5 euro service and 2 euro per person and 4 euro water, avoid this restaurant at all costs. Worst meal I've had in rome. Lesson is to check reviews before eating. Awful, just awful. We were half expecting high prices being right in the heart of the tourist zone. But, we couldn't have imagined how poor the food and service would be. They were quick to give us a table, and after that nothing else was. Three waiters seemed to stand around doing nothing in the street while one (rather angry) woman did all the work. We had a passable Caprese Salad to start, and a tasteless vegetable soup. I asked for bread (they charge EUR 4 for it) - it tasted like it was baked last week. I told the waitress when I got a chance that it didn't taste fresh, and I swear to God - she shoved her finger into it and barked "FRESHHHHH". She walked away with it and returned with a new basked of equally stake bread. No oil, no balsamic - and she had turned her back and disappeared before I could say anything. Mains's were the worst part. Mushroom Risotto - which anywhere in Italy should be perfect - was made with what looked like long grain rice, was anything but creamy, and worst of all the mushrooms looked and tasted like they came from a tin. Spaghetti Vongole (clams) was undercooked, unbelievably oily and the clams were gritty. We agreed to forget the meal and the EUR 75 we paid for the privilege as quickly as possible. It took us an age to get the waiter's attention to get the check, another age for it to arrive, and then realised they had the audacity to add roughly a 10% service charge. Worst pizza I've ever had! We are usually very careful to check Yelp before going out to eat, but like most reviews, this restaurant was not our first or even second choice. After an hour of walking and looking for a restaurant without a wait on New Years Eve, we were desperate and starving and went to the first place we found that appeared decent. Big mistake. First of all, the waiter was extremely distracted while we were trying to order. He would not look at us and every time my husband would point to what he wanted on the menu, the waiter would look away and have to ask again. It happened multiple times in a row. I ordered the white pizza with prosciutto and my husband ordered the eggplant Parmesan. As soon as the pizza was put in front of me, we started laughing. It looked just as bad as it tasted. The dough and cheese tasted exactly like frozen cheesy-bread you can get at the grocery store and the prosciutto didn't even deserve to be called that. It was very thick and rubbery with no flavor whatsoever. It was literally the worst pizza i have ever had, including cheap frozen pizzas i used to make in my college dorm. Awful. To top it all off, when we received the check, not only was the food expensive, but there was a large service charge. They also charged us for our water. We ended up paying 77€ for the worst meal we had in Italy. read more

Avoid the seafood. My girlfriend and I both got food poisoning after eating the muscles at this restaurant. They were actually tasty, but not tasty enough to forget about the whole day we lost on our vacation due to being glued to the toilet. Luckily it hit us at different times, so there was no fighting over the bathroom. Also, the main dishes were not up to par. Her gnocchi was overcooked and tasted like prawn innards since they cook both the gnocchi and the whole prawns together. My risotto was undercooked and not creamy in the slightest. It was more of a rice pilaf than a risotto. It would have been alright as a side dish, but not a main course. After picking at our entrees, we decided that we were not going to finish them at the restaurant. I asked for some take away containers and they informed me that they didn't have any. This was a great stop away from the touristy restaurants near the Pantheon. Note that this lunch will take a while as it is not the average tourist trap. Fritto Misto was excellent crisp and lightly fried, like tempura. I had the Spaghetti with clams and the clam to noodle ratio was excellent. Pasta was cooked perfectly and the experience was overall recommended. It is a bit pricier and will take longer so maybe not the best place for a family. read more

Stay away - overcharges, bad service and below average food. Significantly overcharged: 1. Charged Euro18 for bread - not requested and we were not told they were charging 2. Charged Euro35 each for fish quoted at Eoro17 3. Charged Euro20 for house wine quoted at Euro14 4. Charged a service charge not disclosed on the menu, and table was only for 3 people. I addition the service was rude and bad, and the food was below par. Stay away from this restaurant - they take advantage of being in a busy city. read more

I'm so glad I didn't look this restaurant up or we would've missed out on a great meal. My husband got the Sea Bass and I got the Pasta with Mushrooms. The food was spectacular and the service was spot on. Not too hovering but available. Complimentary shot with chocolate and cookies were frosting on a great night!!! read more
