Often times there is a request to remove any gel or polish just before surgery. Oscar is very accommodating when it comes to switching to a basic manicure and a good pedicure especially my super technician (Thai - Ty) The environment is always customer forward, professional, sanitized and upscale with high quality products. read more

I don't typically leave bad reviews, but after multiple bad experiences with this salon and no real resolution, I don't want other people to have the same experience. I booked a 9 AM appointment on Monday, right when they opened, specifically to avoid any issues before leaving for vacation. AFTER removing my previous set, which THEY had done, I was told they couldn't do the same kind of nails again and didn't have enough time to do my nails. All I wanted was French tips with one or two lines on them. Nothing complicated. They tried telling me I needed to come back, despite having an appointment and repeatedly explaining that I was leaving for vacation. They eventually agreed to do them, all while multiple employees were sitting on their phones throughout my appointment. This also isn't the first time I've had an issue with them not having time for a scheduled appointment. After talking me into a different type of set, I paid a lot of money for nails that started breaking before my trip even started. Within 2 days, two had already broken. By the end of my trip, less than a week after getting them done, I only had FOUR nails left. I was on vacation doing nothing that should have caused my nails to break like this. I've also noticed a pretty clear difference in how customers are treated. Customers who appear wealthy seem to get more attention, offered drinks, etc., while others can barely get the same level of service. Regardless of what someone looks like or how much money they appear to have, everyone should be treated with the same respect. When I reached out about my nails, I was offered a "discount" on my next appointment. That doesn't resolve the issue with the set I just paid for, and I don't want to spend more money at a business where I don't feel customers are treated with respect. read more

Gel nail manicure specific: This place is pretty poorly organized. Extremely stressful getting in there, the energy is hectic for a place where you're supposed to be able to sit back and relax. Don't get any designs on your nails, they will not turn out well. I set up an appointment with someone that was recommended to me, and when I got there I was helped 20 minutes late, and instantly turned away by the person I scheduled my appointment with. I then had to be moved 2 other times to other desks and was given some random person to do my gel nails. It was highly embarrassing. I also wasn't offered a drink and the whole process seemed rushed like they were just trying to push me out. I will say, my friend that goes here agrees it's stressful, but she does get good service, so it seems it's hit or miss. read more

I have been going to Oscar nails for years. The last two times I have had to go back to get my nails fixed.. this time, they accused me of lying, and that my nails were dont 2 weeks ago and not this weekend... they ended up being wrong. The girl "fixed" them.. same experience, just a sour attitude that came too. I even requested a certain person, and did not receive. Unfortunate when I do like the place so much read more

I was visiting from out of town and made appointments for my husband and me for pedicures first thing in the morning. They accommodated us both. We each got wonderful pedicures! 5 days ago I came in to get my homecoming nails done. It was $80 to get a french tip with chrome. It was a little bit more expensive than I would have liked but the service was good so I didn't have a problem with it. One of the nails I just got done 5 DAYS AGO just popped off. I am very disappointed as I really liked my nails and my service but they did not last even a week. read more

started 45 minutes after appointment time making my daughter late for her next appointment and overcharged and not willing to refund overcharge when called back the next morning, only offering 10% discount on next service of which we will not be coming back for, and blaming my daughter for not speaking up at the time of the charge. They stated their system is unable to provide any refunds to a credit card, and they don't have cash to give as a refund either. read more

Made an appointment online and the day I arrive there was no greeting when I entered in. They Just told me to sign in and I let them know I had made an appointment they looked at me and looked at their coworker like I should know to just sign in. It was my first time here. They asked me what I was looking for when online they specifically have you pick what you want. Seemed really unorganized. I went in for a pedicure and manicure with acrylics so a lady started with my pedí and when I asked for the color I wanted she glared and was hesitant. Asked me if I was sure. Then she didn't know how to do the certain chrome I wanted so a guy had to come show her and she still couldn't so he just ended up stepping in to do it. When I got my acrylic manicure they had me waiting for a good while so at that point I just felt frustrated because I thought by scheduling a appointment ahead of time you would be a priority. Or they would at least know what you asked for from their website. Overall it's a beautiful place and the lady who did my manicure was nice and did apologize for leaving for a while. I just don't know that it would be a choice for me to come back here. I need to feel comfortable walking into a place without being judged for my nail color choice for not knowing the logistics of a place that was my first time going into and I need organization. read more

they never send out bad reviews. However, I sat for a half hour waiting for an appointment. Told him I've been waiting and her response was ok. Sit down and wait. Did not go talk to the technician to see how much longer or apologize for the weight when I got up to leave her response to me was ok and let me walk out the door very disappointed. A beautiful salon. It appeared busy, but I think when you make an appointment, he should at least keep in touch with you to tell you how much longer it's gonna be and at least be polite. read more

Got nail extensions and while filing cut my finger and started to bleed. Did not apologize.

Went in with a 2:30 appointment for my daughter. They pulled 6 people in front of us. When we were the only ones left waiting ask what we were waiting on.... and we had told 3 different people. We just walked out, lost our business for life. read more

My daughter and I came in for scheduled pedicures at 11:30. By 11:45 both of the men, who did our pedicures, were finished, had everything cleaned up, and were gone! We have never had such bad pedicures ever! I think they were irritated in the beginning because we got basic pedicures; which we always get whenever we get a pedicure. They were rough, went at a very fast pace, didn't even try to rub the rough spots off our feet, and basically ignored us throughout the whole process. Never again! read more

Decided to treat my sister for her birthday Memorial Day weekend. The staff seemed to be rushing us in and out compared to others. Her nail tech told her she had to leave to get her kids and left. Reserved 3 pedicures a few weeks ahead of time and they were ready for us when we arrived, on time! Our techs were polite and professional, with mine being very friendly and chatty. There are three nail salons within a mile of my home and since I wasn't sure what my schedule was going to be, I figured I'd have a good chance as a walk-in for a basic pedicure (I had been here before with no appointment and it was fine). It was crowded when I arrived but I was told they could fit me in in 10 minutes which was reasonable. Not long after 10 minutes I was led to a chair and told to soak my feet. So far so good, right? But then I sat and sat and sat in water that turned tepid and then cold. Twice I signaled to someone to inquire about when I would get my pedicure and was told someone would be right with me. I ended up waiting close to 45 minutes before I was attended to and then the service was rushed. I didn't want polish but needed a good nail trim and foot buff in advance of a hiking trip. The best part is always the leg massage but this time, not so much. Had I been told the wait would be as long as it was, I would have gone elsewhere. I just wish they had been honest with me. read more

My daughter and I went to Oscar Nail Salon (12/6/20). My daughter asked for a dip service and I received a regular manicure. The tech that worked on my daughter's nails was doing such a terrible job that another technician had to take over. She ended up with shellac nails instead of dip because they could not fix the dip. My regular manicure was rushed and the technician could not have been less interested in my manicure. Last night I noticed significant chipping of the polish (day 3). We were at the salon for 2+ hours because of the debacle of my daughter's nails (my mani teas complete in under 20 minutes). For our trouble we received 20% off with hardly an apology. Needless to say, we will not be returning. We are fortunate in The Des Moines area to have a lot of options for nail service. read more

The pedicure I had was amazing! It took a turn at the manicure when the guy who did my nails did a full manicure with acrylic and shellac in under 20 minutes, my nails are bumpy and there was no cuticle work at all. I would come back for a pedicure but would not recommend a manicure. The nails looked at least a week grown out when I walked out of the salon and there are a ton of air bubbles on all of my nails. read more

I made 4 apts for my mom and sisters. They started us 25 min late. Cut my sisters toe to the point where is was bleeding and they couldn't even do half the pedicure. My other sisters lady refused to cut her left nails the same as her right, so my sister asked for the file to do it herself. My lady was asking if I was pleased as she was literally wiping off my polish around my cuticles. I felt like I had to supervise the whole thing. We absolutely will never be back. This business is a joke! First off, months ago, one of the nail techs we went to for months faithfully (Lom), we got told by 'staff' on the phone that she didn't work there anymore. Then, after finding a new tech, lo and behold went in next time and she's still employed there! The receptionist said she would bring it up to the owner but that never went anywhere, as figured, and to this day still get told "I don't know who told you that." Then, most every time you book an appointment with Edmond, they say he's running behind and shove you off to whomever, then he's done within a couple of minutes after you start with the tech you DID NOT make an appointment with (like we are not observant). Then, this tops it off......you just call to make an appointment and the receptionist says "you've been put on a block list and can't make an appt!!!!!" A BLOCK LIST?!!!! Seriously, you can shove this flaky, poor scheduling business you know where because I am so sick of dealing with a bunch of liars for whatever reason it is. This is the most unprofessional consistent behavior from a business that I think I've ever dealt with; can't believe I've let it go on this long! Most salons who run a successful business, pride themselves in customer service, but NOT this one! Also, what's the point of your check-in system when you have the customer put their phone number in and then 10 different nail techs come to ask you what you are in the building for and whom you are with! read more

Had to update my original review. Unfortunately a lot of the things I loved about Oscar have gone to the wayside. About a year ago they lost a lot of techs and one of those was my go-to; she was amazing. Now when I book an appointment it doesn't matter because I never get in on time because they continue to take walk-ins and last time my tech was so rushed I had to remind her to file my other set of toe nails on my other foot; she complexly forgot one of my feet and started doing something else. She apologized and said she was so busy. I loved coming here because it's super convenient but the last two times I've been here haven't been worth the price. I'll be looking for another location. read more

Terrible customer service. When getting a gel manicure I asked for a third coat of paint (the color is shear) and was denied. After being recommended to see Betty by multiple family members I had started going to Oscars nail bar and Betty always did a great job. I booked her again for an upcoming wedding and when I showed up for the appointment I was told with no warning that Betty no longer worked there. I was obviously frustrated with the lack of communication but ended up going with a nail tech that was free at the moment. She would not listen to me about the uneven shape of my nails and instead insisted that my nails "grow sideways". After a bit of back and forth and more attitude than I appreciated, I let the topic go and let her finish. I ended up spending an hour at home shaping my nails myself to get them to look right. (p.s. my nails don't grow sideways she just didn't want to fix it!). read more

Made an appointment for myself and my two daughters for two pedicures and three manicures.
