After 20 plus years of this American never having tried traditional East End seafood dishes--despite my father-in-law raving about it all these years (while other family members not so much)--I looked forward to trying it out at last. Was never against trying it, for the record, just never made time to. I think it was the perfect place to try it for the first time. I tried jellied eel and whelks for the first time. It was definitely not horrible. It was fresh and tasty. I also had a prawn sandwich, also beautifully fresh. Everyone enjoyed their rolls and sandwiches, and side of fries. I was definitely please to see my young child enjoying the whelks as well. Everything seemed reasonably priced. Staff was very friendly and pleasant. We sat "outside", inside a tent, which kept us sheltered from the blustery wind on a mostly cloudy June day, while looking out at the Thames Estuary. Finally getting around to writing this. Was visiting a close friend down in London living in the area. Was desperately wanting to get some fresh seafood that I normally wouldn't find up north where I could get it right at the waters side. My mate knew exactly where to go to get said seafood and away we went. The place is right on the water and had a good little bar area. When I looked into the cases to see what I wanted I was just amazed at how much they had for the selection. Anything from jellied eels to crawfish tails. I wanted it all but obviously that would be pricy and I wouldn't be able to eat it all. So I chose the famed jellied eels , cockles , octopus and crawfish tails. Im not going to lie I quite enjoyed the jellied eels . Not sure why but I found them quite good and kind of fun working around the bones and spitting them out. The rest of the seafood was really good too. Staff was all quite friendly and my mate, his young daughter and I all quite enjoyed ourselves. I highly recommend this place for the fresh seafood and the prices aren't nearly as bad as you would expect. read more
