After 20 plus years of this American never having tried traditional East End seafood dishes--despite my father-in-law raving about it all these years (while other family members not so much)--I looked forward to trying it out at last. Was never against trying it, for the record, just never made time to. I think it was the perfect place to try it for the first time. I tried jellied eel and whelks for the first time. It was definitely not horrible. It was fresh and tasty. I also had a prawn sandwich, also beautifully fresh. Everyone enjoyed their rolls and sandwiches, and side of fries. I was definitely please to see my young child enjoying the whelks as well.
Everything seemed reasonably priced. Staff was very friendly and pleasant. We sat "outside", inside a tent, which kept us sheltered from the blustery wind on a mostly cloudy June day, while looking out at the Thames Estuary. I actually don't know if there's an "inside". read more
