Take 3-adults who've been working since 9am with minimal food intake in between and by 6pm they were ravenous. Surprisingly the trio agreed Japanese it had to be.
We arrived to this suburban delight not too long after 6pm. You'll find it nestled in a group of shops along Waterworks Road. If you're looking at Banneton Bakery you've gone too far. If you're near Jetts Ashgrove, then you've not gone far enough along Waterworks Road.
The restaurant isn't large and in peak times I can imagine it getting quite loud. That said, given the style of restaurant, I think it'd actually give the space great atmosphere. Service is quick and incredibly friendly.
There were two other families dining when we arrived and given the ample space still in the restaurant, were seated quickly. The menu is fairly standard westernised-japanese fare and we democratically decided on one entree each to share. As Laura D mentioned, the chicken karage and takoyaki were the stand outs, although, it is worth noting the rainbow sushi roll our third party member ordered was quite large. Depending how hungry you are, this could easily stave off hunger for you.
For mains I went with the teriyaki salmon dinner bento box. For $29 I'll warn you: it easily feeds two! The bento includes miso soup, a side salad, deep-friend dumplings (2), several pieces of tempura vegetables and a tempura prawn or two, rainbow roll sushi (around 4 pieces), sashimi, a slice of grilled teriyaki salmon on a bed of more salad.
I tapped out leaving enough to consider asking for a take-home bag of the remaining bento box. read more
