And her attitude didn't change the rest of the time. Being a former waiter (both of us actually) I don't like to under tip but I had to this time. The place looked pretty good for a run down building (it's supposed to be rundown - that's a Taos's "thing"). The food, just okay. Brisket sliders were just a snack. Not a meal. Burger was okay except the cheese should go on the meat and the chilies on that so it does all slowly fall out. Fried pickles were great (except my friend, who ordered them didn't agree).

I got some solid advice, 'order what ever comes out of this'. They were right, burnt ends and pork belly were amazing. Distinctive flavor, but delicate. Perfect medium rare steak, I mean perfect. We also had the caesar salad. Also remarkable. The only thing we did wrong was not order 2 salads for the 3 of us to share. The grilled corn was really amazing, I've been thinking about it for days. It has the signature red sauce, somewhere between a Mole and a chili sauce, woody, spicy with a citrus note. Our young one ordered the chicken pasta and said it had too much lemon. I thought it was good, but not as good as the smoker items and steak. The staff was totally top notch and they looked like they were having a good time in the show kitchen. I will come back for sure and stay in Arroyo Seco.

The menu is incredible, very creative with vegan and vegetarian options. However if you are very hungry or in a hurry I would not recommend it. The service is very sloooow. I visited with my son and wife. I ordered 'Papas con Chile', my wife @/ Sequeña Croissant and my son a panini sandwich. My son had one of their Superfood Smoothies and my wife and I Americano coffee. At the end of our brunch we had some pastries out of this world. Next to the Cafe, they have a small food market with a great selection.

By the time I saw this place, I was willing to pay more. I've been here maybe 3 times, and always when I'm leaving Colorado and heading towards Santa Fe, hence they are the proverbial oasis in the desert. The store itself is fairly clean and large with a lot of coolers. Their selection of snacks is varied, they have plenty of ice and drinks, you will even find some local made spices, chiles, wines and a few knick knacks. Everything can be found cheaper somewhere else, it's just a matter of how far you want to drive. If you're looking at basic road trip snacks, so you spent an extra $1, who cares? For multiple items that could be a different story. Their single unisex restroom is kind of dirty and I always fear the day it will be out of order! Luckily that hasn't happened yet, but there is always a line. I do think they could be better about the maintenance though. The lot leaves enough room for parking and using the gas pumps without getting tangled. The gas prices were higher than we had been seeing on our trip, but not gouging higher. If they were anywhere else, the prices and lines would be 3 stars. But see above, I'm always relieved to see them when we take this route.

There is nearly always a line to the cashier and card scanners at the pumps are frequently problematic requiring you to go inside. Security is fine, and there are a few less low-lifes lurking than at most public places in Taos. The layout is fairly spacious and ingress/egress is simple with any rig. They have a fairly wide selection of beers and beverages and an excellent tobacco shop (the only one in Taos County). Their humidor offers about 50 premium cigars, mostly trendy American mades. There is also a small bottle shop which mostly sells miniatures to pedestrians. I am a sports car enthusiast and mechanic, and I can say, clearly, there is nothing wrong with their fuel. It is ordinary E10 offered in 3 levels of octane and diesel. The tanks, filters and pumps are still new. There is, another, much older station in El Prado which is notorious for making cars sick.
