I had a colonoscopy at Oro Valley Hospital. The procedure was done by Dr. Michelle Dodman. I was relieved that all went so well. The staff at the OV Hospital were all great. We went to the emergency room. My husband had a heart attack. I asked for assistance with a wheelchair . I asked if I could keep the wheelchair while I was in the emergency room. He said no. There was nobody else being seen at the time. When we got back to the room I asked for a chair to sit in while we waited for the doctor. He said no. The nurse there were rude and disrespectful. I would never recommend this hospital. They transferred him 15 hours later to a different hospital read more

The ER is good, but do NOT admit yourself to the Behaviorial Health Unit. It's basically a confinement unit that provides ZERO mental health therapy. read more

Im leaving this review a little late, however my experience at this hospital has traumatized me and stuck with me for the last year. DO NOT COME HERE!!!! I understand there are circumstances (such as mine) where you need emergent care, but still, if I had the same medical emergency I would make the 30 min drive to TMC instead. I collapsed in my home 1 year ago due to extreme abdominal pain, I vomitted and could barely move. Fortunately, I have a high pain tolerance and was able to manage the pain for as long as it took for someone to get home to drive me to the ER. Upon arriving, I was instructed to wait because I was not considered urgent?????????? Ok so I waited for maybe 20 minutes which wasn't too bad but felt like forever. I was bent over in a fetal position groaning because of the pain. They finally took my vitals and placed me in a room with nothing but a curtain blocking me from the people next to me. To my left was an elderly couple who was there for a blood test. Across from me was a mother and her daughter. Rest of room was packed with clearly non-emergent cases (in my opinion but who knows). In the room, I was screaming, vomitting, crying, and EMBARRASSED because I was making everyone so uncomfortable. The couple next to me ended up leaving because they could not bare to listen to me (sooo understandable). After 30 minutes of feeling like I was dying in this room, they finally ordered a CT. My doctor came in (Nicki) with a blanket draped across her shoulders and with no care in the world lol. Only time I saw her and our conversation was so irrelevant I dont even remember. Everyone else was kind (especially the ct tech) but the doctor had no compassion or even attempted to help. Before CT they prescribed me painkiller that would only work on a fetus, had absolutely NO effect on me. I was yelling in pain the entire time, even the tech noted "The meds should be kicking in by now thats weird youre in so much pain" After ALL OF THIS, I get sent home told that its "just my period" and i was just having cramps. I WASNT EVEN ON MY PERIOD LMFAO WHAT????? In what world is it normal to collapse and vomit persistently due to "normal period cramps" This visit had then followed with 1month of persistant bleeding, had an ultrasound with my doctor 1 week after this ER visit and they noted a huge cyst on my ovary and free fluid. Got surgery and ended up having severe endometriosis, internal bleeding, and many cysts that were causing the pain. This experience genuinely traumatized me, and after some time I realized the ignorance and lack of empathy that the staff here have. I feel horrible for the other patients I was placed with. Never, IN MY LIFE, will I return to this hospital. If I can not trust them to administer proper medication and perform the necessary exams, then how could I trust them with more emergent situations?? I would rather risk harm driving to TMC than to be mistreated here again read more

My mother asked me how they were treating me and I told her "I haven't been treated this good since I left home 43 years ago" She liked that! The staff was terrific! Send Er doctor back to med school!!!Had a neighbor here today. Patient has very swollen leg with extreme pain. She was here at 6:30 AM and he did Ct of hip CBC, chem profile and said it wasn't an emergency and wanted to discharge her. They should have sign up telling pts what exactly constitutes an emergency at 630 am . I wouldn't come back here. I'm sure she won't either. read more

Every nurse was extremely nice, from the moment that I checked in. Ive been here for every massive surgery i've had and Ive never had such a bad experience. I have never even written a review for one of my visits, but truly after my experience at TMC, I just don't see any excuse for my experience at the Oro Valley Hospital. I was seen by Doctor Nicole, she had tattoos and curly hair. She was dismissive and didn't even listen to what my issues were. I was basically brushed off and told it was anxiety "I can't help you relieve something you have already experienced" well then why would I go to the ER then? I ended up being discharged and was told to go to my primary care doctor as if I wasn't having an active issue. I went to my primary care the next day they were extremely confused why that would be my next step? The only issue she found was that my thyroid was off so saying I should follow up makes sense, but I actively am throwing up and can't keep food down. After I saw my primary care they told me to go to TMC immediately and I have been here the past two days, diagnosed with two separate issues that she didn't even care to check. I am no stranger to the hospital scene and did/ do not appreciate her attitude or professionalism by any means. I understand the pressure that doctors constantly are under and how crazy it can be but professionalism is the absolute bare minimum, i'm not for special treatment, but being kind in scary situations is apart of life and unfortunately the job. I had not one issue with a nurse or doctor at any of my other visits besides the Oro Valley Hospital with this particular nurse. This isn't my first visit and Ive had great experiences in the past, so i'm disappointed in how bad my experience was and quiet frankly this isn't the first time I have even heard about her before my experience with her. I had one poor experience while staying here at TMC with another dismissive doctor and watched other doctors blatantly call out her unprofessionalism. That gives me more of a reason to believe that it was just unacceptable. TMC has way more people, I waited longer to be seen and still had a better experience than the Oro Valley Hospital I will be going to TMC from now on or at least will never be seen by her again. read more

Terrible! I will never set foot in this excuse for a hospital ever again. Absolutely the worse treatment I have ever received in my 76 years. My doctor called the ER and left a complete diagnosis and advice on the treatment I required, ( Admittance, two to three days of an antibiotic IV drip due to infection that would not respond to an oral antibiotic and could spread and affect a serious heart condition).... ER staff doctor refused to accept that information or any of my requests to contact my doctor and released me..... He was arrogant and unwilling to listen to me even after numerous requests to contact my doctor. I ended up in another hospital the next day for four days and the required IV. My advice is N E V E R make the mistake of going to this hospital! You may regret it. read more

I have gone to OVH about 6 times since moving to Tucson 3 years ago and I have never had any issues. Always had great care and experience until today. I went in with a 9/10 pain since I had a UTI that spread to my kidneys and they did nothing. They started an IV and took blood but nothing for the pain. I was screaming and doubled over and the provider, Glen Olson, was callous and cold. Talked down to me and showed no care or bedside manner. Horrible, arrived by ambulance 430am Monday. Placed in a chair in the hallway. Nightshift doctor had CT test, unfortunately day shift doctor did nothing. No urine test or blood test. I left at 9am I called many times advocate for help, still waiting. My doctor's not there... I had infection kidney. Day shift doctor did nothing! Rude! Said I could leave after nurse told him I called advocate. So I did leave, without care after 5 hrs. read more

The ER is horrible. I was treated horribly by nurses. I had fallen and cracked my ankle and hit my head. As a result, I wasn't able to get my words out. The nurses actually made fun of me. That was beyond belief. The PA who was supposed to help patients spent her time laughing and carrying on with others in an off room. They were loud and cursing things and people. I could not believe how obnoxious they all were. The couple of nurses who did work a little were doing all of the work. Don't go there is you have a choice. Once I was given a room, it was a different world. The staff were caring and did a great job. I was very pleased with RN Albert and Aide Alyssa. They were very kind to me and took time to help me. Albert went the extra mile to help me get home and sort out the mystery of getting into my house. He went the extra mile and I couldn't thank him enough. If you could bypass the ER and go directly to a room, the experience would be 5 star! read more

Took my daughter to the ER after my daughter (13) had fainted in the bathroom and fell back and hit her back on the bathtub. She was screaming in pain, pale and started throwing up. My daughter had been running a fever, cough, stuffy nose and horrible headache for the last 3 days. The staff in the ER took her vitals, put in her a room with no sheet or blanket to cover her and left the room. The doctor came in stood against the wall and told us that he was a "doctor" and in his "doctor's opinion" using air quotes the entire time that my daughter's vitals looked good, probably a virus and sent us home. The "doctor" did not look at her back, did not check her breathing, no exam just stood there and let us know he was a "doctor" and he knew best. No blood work, covid or flu tests. The next day she continued to run a fever so I purchased a covid and flu test. The test came back positive for the flu. Completely unsatisfied with how the "doctor" treated my daughter and didn't even complete an exam to check her breathing etc. I will never go there again! read more

Well, now this is for an ER visit of my own. They took forever when I had to go in the middle of the night. Ok, it's an ER. I've lived in big cities where I've waited longer, so I get it. During surgery, the anesthesiologist carelessly reamed out my throat. Everything I ate or drank for two days burned, except ice. My tongue became swollen and my whole mouth white and tender. My swollen epiglottis didn't know whether to go down my esophagus or lay in my mouth. After 7 days, I went to the emergency room for treatment, and that began the healing process. Here's the kicker, Oro Valley Hospital chaged me the $140 copay for ER treatment of a condition the anesthesiologist caused. I wanted to appeal the charge, but the hospital staff replied that the damage done to me was appropriate. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE! read more

Most staff are very rude, they told my aunt to calm down while she was in pain. They tried red flagging her for meds that they keep giving her. I've only met 2 nice people and they helped as much as they could. The machines weren't working and at one point was beeping for a good 30 sec and not a single person came to check on her. Her heart monitors fell off and we had to figure out ourselves how to get them back on. Never heard or had a good experience at this hospital. read more

Three years ago, I broke my ankle and was taken by ambulance to Oro Valley hospital. Instead of providing me the surgeon who specialized in lower body issues, instead I was given a surgeon who specialized in only upper body issues. It is now that many years later, I am still unable to straighten my foot. After returning home, I was harassed by a staff member to pay up additional fees. I had given both my medicare data as well a my secondary insurance card. I wanted my money given to them retutned, They stated that I had to return to the hospital to obtain that money. I am confined to a wheelchair and unable to drive. They kept my money, not offering to mail a check to my residence, despite my being unable to drive. I will never choose to go to Oro Valley hospital....ever!! read more

They need to learn to listen to their patients. They need a communication plan so that they can take care of business at night. If there is a problem as it stands now they don't listen to what the patients have to say or allow them to take part in their care But at night they discontinue everything that the patient might need and leave a person there who they call a doctor but what he really is a message service who takes messages from the night nurse that will be answered the next day. Well, I have been here. They have left me in pain all night every night in spite of the fact that I had a pretty significant surgery both at the hospital and several months before. The pain is terrible, especially at night but every time I attempt to ask a doctor to Put something back on the list that I have been taking for years I am told that the doctor is not available until the following morning, which means I get to lay here in pain all night until late the next morning when the doctor comes around and then turns around and does the same exact thing that he did before. This is ridiculous. I have a feeling that he has read a comment that may have been left by a pain clinic that I attended several years ago where they made me feel as if I was a drug addict and I quit going there and left a nasty note about their care. After that happened, they posted something on my medical record that said I had a problem with opiates and I certainly have never had a problem with opiates, but that's what the comment that they put up makes it look like and it makes me think that the fact that this doctor here cancels everything that is an opiate Has read that comment. I really wish I could go to a different hospital, but I'm praying that I will be able to just get out relatively soon and stay away from the hospital. This one borders on being one of the worst I have ever been in and I've had a lot of hospitalization in my life. The food is disgusting and when you try and get something like a simple sandwich at night, all they have is one kind which is turkey over and over and the turkey taste old and the cheese that's on. It is all dried out. I hate to say it, but I just can't Stop myself from complaining about this place and I really wish there was a way that I could transfer to a different hospital this place has other related hospitals and when I went to the one that they have on Lachona, it was similar and they didn't want to allow me to participate in my care there either. What I want is simply to have the doctor listen to me and make a joint decision and then stick with it and delete all the medication that I am supposed to take. I went to a lot of trouble to get records from the rehab center, and when I gave them to the nurse to give to the doctor, she simply threw them down and left them on my table. I just can't say anything good about this place. Please help yourself out and stay away from here when I was evaluated for physical therapy, the physical therapist chose to do it a matter of hours after I have my surgery and then insisted that everything be done using his equipment. This was not acceptable and I moved very slowly and he ended up turning around and saying that I was not ready to be on my own just another thing that was not acceptable about this hospital. read more

I took my husband to the ER at Oro Valley on Jan. 25th. He was pretty sick, but my serious concern was his breathing. They took him back immediately and we sat and waited for tests and such. Turned out to be the Flu. Nasty strain that is causing O2 sat. levels to drop and other issues. (I'd just gotten over that nasty bug) They decided he needed to see a cardiologist, which meant being transferred to Northwest, as Oro no longer has a cardiology department. He was transferred to a more "private room" in the ER, started on IV medication, and left to wait. That's fine, if they remembered to do things like feed him, give him water, you know, the things that actually keep people alive. He'd been in there for more than 24 hours before they thought to bring him something to eat and then it was only One Meal within a 3 day period. Yes, you read that correctly. He was in the ER for 3 days before they got him transferred and they fed him One time. The nurses were nice enough. They did their best to take care of a long term patient (which is not normal in the Emergency Room) but only one of them, bless that lovely woman's heart, remembered he needed to eat and ordered from the kitchen. Why didn't I bring food, you ask? Because they actually had him on a strict diet ordered by the Doctor. The other nursing staff just never put in the tray orders. read more

The ER doctor Ross is the absolute most useless doctor I have ever met doesn't give a shit about the patient or what's wrong with them. Just want to get them in and out as soon as possible and I have really good insurance on top of that but they really, should I say Dr. Ross the head ER doctor is a piece of shit and needs to go start his own practice for the needy and learn some manners and respect. he wouldn't even bandage up my open wound. ED visit was a disaster. While staff were pleasant, their overall care was poor. We had a hallway room as it was busy. We were referred to out loud by my husband's diagnosis multiple times ( even pointed at) by staff members in front of other patients. No regard for privacy. Don't get me going on the lack of handwashing or sanitizing. I saw multiple staff hop from patient to patient without doing any sanitizing. Maybe 1/2 of the staff had a name badge, identified themselves to us and/or told us their role. We were handed a 10-page discharge document without review. This was the total opposite experience from my out-patient surgery encounter 1 year ago. The staff were stellar in all ways and I would recommend that dept. Meanwhile, stay away from the ED unless it's your only option! read more

I wouldn't take my dog there!!! They treated me horribly. For example I am 1 month post operative for pelvic organ prolapse. My bladder shut down and I needed a catheter inserted. I couldn't pee. I cannot lay in 1 spot without help! But that's what happened. 6 hrs wait. Then the nurse shoved a very large gauge catheter into my surgically repaired bladder. There was bleeding everywhere. I'm going to the surgeon tomorrow but the pain is horrible! read more

Care is good and the quality as well. Office or check in is very repetitious checking in and if you are in pain, well plan on setting in the waiting room for some time in-between the 3 times they have you get up to fill in paperwork and then return to the waiting room. If you are determined I'll enought to be admitted to the hospital. You will wait forever to be taken to a room with a comfortable bed, mean while you lay on the gurney. Nurses are great. But if after hours of beening there you need something to keep you occupied, OMG ! YOU HAVE A 12 " VACUUM TUBE TV TO WATCH. this is a fairly new hospital...somebody got a kick back from selling them those tvs. read more

My Dad was admitted to Oro Valley, Oct 2023 he was not feeling well and his oxygen was low. They put him in isolation because of influenza B, understandably, however, his care was less than stellar. The staff did not come in and get him out of bed or take him for walks, PT came and moved him twice into a chair. His food tray sat outside his room, kitchen staff was not aloud to go into room, delivery was made by the nurse or aide, when they weren't busy with other patients. He COULD walk when he arrived but COULD NOT walk 6 days later! The biggest issue with this hospital is the LACK OF STAFF!! Lack of staff means lack of care ! read more

Earlier this week, I had an unfortunate incident with my car door; I accidentally slammed my thumb in it. After almost a day of excruciating pain, swelling, and bruising, I went to a CVS minute clinic where they immediately suggested I go to the ER to have it x-rayed, to make sure it wasn't broken. Naturally, I came here and received exceptional care. I came in at about 1pm. Like always, there weren't very many people in the waiting room, but it was full house in the back; they weren't sure when they were going to be able to take me in. Still, they took me into triage right away and performed the x-ray all while waiting for a bed to free up. After a little over an hour, they were ready to see me in the back. My thumb wasn't broken, but that car door gave it a hematoma. The doctor burned a hole in the nail, and drained it to relieve the swelling. Before I knew it, they were ready to give me my discharge paperwork. All this in about two hours. Way to go Oro Valley Hospital! They are the only place I've ever seen that manages a full ER gracefully. I'm so glad to have them nearby. read more

I went to ER last night in a lot of stomach pain. I knew exactly what it was and luckily for me I had a physician, Dr. Olsen, that was wonderful and listened to what I had to say and prescribed me what I needed to get this pain under control. The reason I am giving them a rating of "2" is because of the 2 people who checked me in. I was told it would be a few minutes. After about 15 minutes, my husband went and asked "how much longer", which is a fair questions when you're loved one is doubled over in pain. When they finally brought me into triage, the woman and the front desk and the nurse started to to each other saying "all the other ERS have a 8 hour wait, but some people want to be seen right away". Now, I have been in the medical profession for over 37+ years and have worked in many ERs. That is the most unprofessional statement anyone can make! How rude! Anyone who has a loved one that is in extreme pain is going to ask. Shame on them!!!! read more

Back in July of 2020 I had to rush my 80 year olds dad to the hospital, at 3 in the morning. He was having severe pain in his sides and I had no idea what to do. Got him there, couldn't go in due to covid restrictions, but I let them know he was hard of hearing and in a lot of pain. After 4 hours of tests the nurse brought him out to the car, and said "it's gallstones. They need to pass on their own" and I was confused. After driving 50 minutes back home, he was still in way too much pain. My mom happened to noticed these blisters on his side and showed them to me, turns out he had SHINGLES the whole damn time and the EMERGENCY ROOM missed it. HOW. Terrible service, would rather gamble and drive all the way to TMC next time. My parents deserve better. read more

I will not sugar coat or exaggerate but tell you my honest experience. Let me preface this by saying I know exactly how a good ER should be working because I work 8 plus years in them. My experience on November 15th. The triage nurse was trying to dismiss me as if it was something minor. Again I know my body and knew something was wrong. I had to advocate for myself in a way that most people would have no idea and most would just be sent home and continue to decline. The Dr. West did not want to perform any tests. I actually had to ask her for them and give my reasoning behind them. I had to ask for bloodwork, imaging and medicine. She was going to do nothing. All which showed proof of what I thought was happening. My nurse Liz was missing in action most of time, and when she came back said now we have to do all this stuff. Like it was an inconvenience. Sorry you have to do your job. But hey, I know what that is like too. And even though in our conversation I asked questions how many bed ER, if you were boarding patients in ER, if the hospital was full which I have experienced that several times.. crazy busy shifts full hospital would I never treat my patients like how she treated me. I can understand and empathize that her job is heavy if so busy and overworked I get it but still you never take it out on patients and lack care/concern towards them or work like a robot. The nurse Liz and Dr. West were trying to dismiss me without even finding a reason behind my symptoms. Be very careful if you come here or have a family member you need to self advocate or advocate on their behalf to make sure they are doing proper thing. After I had some answers and a treatment plan.. I am still seeking care outside of this place and have a proper diagnosis that could of been sooner if they weren't so busy trying to dismiss me before even a proper assessment was done. If this is just normal to them how they worked me on November 15th, I feel so bad for the Oro Valley community. I was told by a patient and his wife back in Illinois I was taking care of who was from Tucson that good quality healthcare in Tucson is needed and that I would be such an asset to the area when I do move. I smiled and thought that was kind but now I know exactly what they meant. read more

I had my first experience 6/12/23 with Oro Valley Hospital outpatient surgery, for a colonoscopy. Everyone from the first person to call me back to prep for the procedure and Brian RN, who filled me in on the procedure was very knowledgeable and Chandra RN also very nice. Dr. Michele Dodman was wonderful and very empathetic about explaining what she would be doing for this procedure. The anesthesiologist Dr. Kit was also once again very comforting in explaining the time involved for being put under and waking up after the procedure. This hospital is the worst! I went to this hospital after a crisis happened due to an unfortunate motor vehicle repair gone wrong. I was forced into this hospital by my family against my will and was forced to lie my way into the hospital by saying I was suicidal even though I was not at all. Insane! We all get upset sometimes especially after a disaster but that doesn't mean you need hospital care!! After telling them I lied about being suicidal and I was forced to against my will they still allowed to come into their hospital! It turned out to be a big mistake. They lowered my medication to a dangerously low dose, causing me extreme pain and suffering worse than ever and was truly life threatening. I thought I might die as the medication they allowed me to take was so low it didn't work. Since leaving the hospital, I have felt detrimentally worse as they forced my doctor to lower my medicine to a dose that no longer works! This has left me feeling worse and has been a huge source of distress and wasted time! Thanks for lowering my quality of life! This hospital has been detrimental to my mental health and well being! Now I can't get out of bed anymore or feed myself even, before I went here I was fine. The classes they taught were good so I gave them one star for that but the medical care was life threatening! Avoid this hospital at all costs especially if you're on any controlled medication! They will mess it up and you could die! They didn't care my pulse was too high and they scared the hell out of me! It seemed like this hospital was run by a witch! They should have left my medicine the same but they changed it against my will saying I didn't need it! I did obviously as I felt fine while I was in there, but they don't want you to feel fine, they don't make money that way! This whole experience has been extremely distressing and traumatic. It woke me up to this broken healthcare system, which sadly looks like it's not getting fixed anytime soon due to our corrupt government. You all messed up my medicine that was working for me you assholes! Thanks for leaving me a less productive member of society! Don't trust their medical staff. You're better off drinking herbal tea than this stupid medicine. They're mostly all backwards idiots with no critical thinking skills and they all seemingly forgot anything they were taught in medical school if they went at all? This hospital is run by what seemed like sadists and ignorant unprofessional doctors and nurses. Don't be their next victim as I was. Stay away from here unless you're homeless! It might give you some comfort from the streets and that's all. Absolutely ridiculous. They brought a good man down. Congratulations on making people's lives worse than before they entered. Jerks!
