I am an extremely infrequent visitor to the doctors and like most men I tend to let things get excruciating before I finally admit that I need to see a doctor. With this in mind I wasn't actually registered with a doctor it had been so long since my last visit. So just before Christmas I decided to get registered somewhere close to where I lived. I firstly went to a practice at the bottom of the Antrim Road which resembled a prison, luckily for me they weren't registering new patients, so I wandered further up the road and came to Salisbury Medical Practice. The practice itself resembles an old victorian manor house, welcoming, grand and warm. The doctors and staff evoke the same feelings. I went in to the practice on my first visit and to be honest I didn't even expect to be able to register but to my surprise they asked me to come back that afternoon to new patient registration (Thursday's). Once registered which was a simple process I was then able to book an appointment. To my complete and utter shock I was able to get one the next morning at 10am - Let's put this in to perspective. In 24 hours I was registered, booked and seen by a nurse and doctor. I can not recommend this practice enough - highly professional and caring. Easily the best medical experience of my life. For anyone worried about me, it's just a football injury!

Routine appointments are often booked up well in advance but they have a triage system whereby when you phone in the morning you receive a call back from either one of the GPs or the Nurse Practitioner who will discuss your symptoms and decide how soon you need to be seen, appointments are kept specifically for this purpose. I have lost track of how many GPs actually work here but there are 6 consulting rooms around the main waiting area at the back, a small room opposite a treatment room & a larger treatment room beside reception. Most staff are polite, friendly & helpful. Self service check in allows for quick check in and a reduction in queues at reception. You can register for online services too which allows you to securely book/cancel appointments and order repeat prescriptions. You can nominate a local pharmacy to collect your prescriptions too to save a journey, very handy service indeed.

When you ring for a prescription that's to go to a pharmacy it won't be done when they say. You'll make your way to collect it from the pharmacy to be told they never received the script, which happens frequently. You're best bringing your phone to ring and 'remind' them to do it. If you're bringing your baby use a carrier rather than a pram or you'll have to drag it up a long flight of stairs or leave it in their front hall. I've attached a pic of how many times I had to call them before I got anyone today.

Two ladies stand out And the young man , a tall blonde lady not sure of her ethnicity and an older English lady both have my utmost respect. Some of the patients are a disgrace with their attitudes.

I had come to the surgery for my diabetes blood test results. My doctor said nothing about the results, instead he told me to come back in two weeks time for another blood test. I refused to have that test because I saw no point of having another when I was not told the results of the one whose results I had came for. He then told me to come for the blood test in a years time. A GP is an important person in my life. My health is their hands. So whatever it is about my health, my doctor has to be truthful no matter how bad. That said, it could be difficult for a doctor to be honest and helpful to their patient when the doctor/patient relationship is unpleasant. Unfortunately that is the kind of relationship that is between me and my GP, doctor G. Conway and I dont wish to face his belittling attitude again. Yours sincerely Marjorie Kashiri

I've been a few times with minor ailments, nothing particular interesting or worth a story. An ear infection was about as interesting as it got, of which I needed two or three different appointments to solve. The staff working at the front desk are all very helpful and courteous. It wasn't too much trouble getting an appointment even though the problem wasn't serious, I think it was roughly a week from when I first called. They have a team of doctors and nurses, of varying ages and experience however all the medical staff I dealt with were fantastic. Quick, to the point but certainly not skimming the surface. They are also very good as far as booking and picking up prescriptions without appointment. If you're living in the south Belfast area as a student or a 'Maaalone' resident then you can't go wrong with this well structured, professional practice.

The doctor was really friendly and obviously someone who was passionate about his work and helping people. I'd still use this place if it wasn't for the fact that I'm not at university anymore. This is a beautiful modern building and has the benefit of a little cafe and lots of comfy seating…read moreareas. However, it doesn't benefit from an appropriate amount of parking. Cars are often abandoned on double yellow lines and whilst it does have disabled spaces, I am yet to come across an empty one. The centre is usually always busy and it often takes a couple of weeks to a get a GP appointment, but then it seems everywhere does. The two things that make the greatest difference for me is the nurses station and the baby clinic. My hubby sliced his finger and fearing hours at a&e, we popped over to the nurses station, no appointment, no problem. He was in and out in 10 mins with bandages, ointment and aftercare advice. It was quick, efficient and easy, as it should be! The baby clinic runs on Thursday afternoons, it's also drop in, where after about a 10-15min wait you can see a Health Visitor and you don't even have to be registered there. Now if only they could sort out the parking...

Brilliant service and unexpected cure. I've always been told tennis elbow cannot be fixed. They need to see Gerrard, (sorry, don't know his surname).
